Chung signed to 2 year extension. I’m confused.

What does this mean for dugger? Special teams player? He will be watching from the bench with joejuan.

It means that the Patriots needed/wanted cap space.

Chung is still reliable. He was playing hurt last half of year, which obviously limited him (missed tackles, he never misses tackles). He's only missed like 5 or 6 games since he came back in '14(?). With Dugger and Philips on board, and possibly Williams, they will start to take some snaps away from Chung and to fill Harmon's shoes, which is ideal. I don't see this deal as a negative in ANY way, no matter how you slice it.

Chung is a warrior one of my favorite Patriots I can forgive the stint with the Eagles unlike Tampa Tom and Rob Roidowski he is a Belichick player thru and thru.

Love it.

Chung wasn't going anywhere this season and most probably 2021 as well. Gives the younger players more time to develop which given COVID is more important than ever this year. There is a good chance most of this years picks won't be up to speed and go beyond specific roles before Nov/Dec or even next year.

2nd round DB on the Pats? He probably gets traded to the Broncos or Falcons for a conditional 7th rounder next year after not playing much in 2020.

...Yup. Goal is to have him be a standout defensive player by year 3.
By year THREE?!? The 37th overall pick of the Entire Draft?!? Sorry not sorry, but that's plug 'n play territory...Almost as absurd as red-shirting a healthy rookie RB while your 2nd-year starter struggles to take anything more than what's already given...

So why again was he the 37th overall pick?

Ask the multiple other NFL teams who were pissed that the patriots took him at 37, because they wanted to take him in the 2nd....but you know better than all of those organizations too, right?

SMH.. I have loved Chung since his return from the Eagles, but this is just silly. He lost so much last season and was outclassed most of the time when he wasn't injured.

Do you expect a team to release the starter at the position of their 37th pick? After trading s3 away from a defense that plays 3 safeties half the time?

What's absurd is you thinking you know wtf you are talking about.

Harris was behind Michel, Burkhead, and White. You seem to forget that WHITE went through the same thing as a rookie despite the numerous injuries ahead of him.

The only struggles that Michel had was a crappy run-blocking O-line because they didn't have Andrews all season, Wynn for 8 games, a true blocking FB after Develin and Johnson went down or a half-decent blocking TE.. The return of Wynn made the running game significantly better for everyone as did Roberts showing he could block as a FB..

Smacks of desperation for Cap Space NOW. Tells us that no Thuney deal forthcoming soon.

Please Football Gods: Prove Me Wrong on Thuney take

I wouldn’t consider a move to free up cap
space silly given the current cap status.

???

We lost Harmon. Also, Dugger is returner.

Why do folks want veterans to be cut, just because we acquire a younger player? Why do folks constantly want to make the team worse?

Please post how much extra money Chung is getting.

Everyone said we needed to draft a safety because our current ones are old. Yet we extended both lol
