It’s cheap money. He’s still a good SS & veteran presence but his man coverage skills vs TEs that were once elite are now declining.
Hopefully Dugger & Williams can take some of the TE coverage work off of his plate.
Enough with the safeties
He’s not what he was but he’s not awful. He can still fill a role. It’s probably a cap-space clearing move too, too an extent (I would guess).
Edit: yeah see the post right above mine lol
I'm sure the NE save $ on this new deal
Reiss’s clarification at least makes more sense in the short term.
What does this mean for dugger? Special teams player? He will be watching from the bench with joejuan.
No, hybrid packages while he develops you couldn’t learn from better leaders than Chung and McCourty.
Everybody have fun tonight!
One has to assume Dugger will need an entire year- maybe three to get to Chung's level of understanding/anticipation in his defense.
...and coming from a D2 school and joining the NEP is like going from 4th grade to high school.
He'll be missing plenty more snaps in the future too...This is what happens when a break-down begins...A few snaps here, a few games there...possible suspension mixed in...
So why again was he the 37th overall pick?
Smart, a great f-ing athlete and upside
Can we say, at this point, that Patrick Chung is one of, if not the, most underrated Patriots of the Belichick era?
It definitely wasn't to provide you with immediate gratification.
Yup. Goal is to have him be a standout defensive player by year 3.
Dont know thst this means a thing for chung longevity. Means he gets cash now and team gets cap space. Guarantee for 1year only (imo)
sure, it would be a bigger dead money Hit to cur him in 2021, but they will have the space then to afford it.
At this point he is a year to year.
With all that cap space next year, the cut likely will hurt less.
