Assuming they like him as a starter, Stidham is better off if we use our picks on O line & pass catchers, than someone he has to look over his shoulder for and split reps with.

He needs confidence, reps & weapons to have any degree of success in the impossible task of replacing TB12.

Albert Breer says the Patriots are interested in moving down yet again.

"Other clubs that have talked with other teams about trading up: Denver (46), Atlanta (47) and Jacksonville (42). Clubs exploring moving down: Indianapolis and New England."

If they make that move it screams of the pats landing the top pick on 2021. This team has a lot of needs at LB, TE, maybe another wideout.

After the Pats traded the #23 pick, I think it was Schefter who said, the player the Patriots wanted at #23 will be available at #37.

I am thinking it has to be a TE or QB.

If it is a QB, I am thinking Jalen Hurts.
He is a winner, a leader & a gym rat.

If they trade down again, wouldn't that be more of an indication that they're trying to patch holes in 2020 rather than they're intentionally tanking?

Tight end might be a need but there aren't any particularly good ones in this draft class, certainly not any that are going to be meaningful contributors in 2020, and forcing the issue just leads to overdrafted busts. You can't just make talent appear out of thin air. Kmet's the best one but he's like a third or fourth, it's just a horrible class. Maybe Claypool if you have a notion he can be converted, but that's a process.

Maybe but are these guys gonna be legit starters and make plays? Idk. Frankly i been saying they will have a season where they maybe go 7-9 and i don’t know if i would like that unless stidham showed glimpses of a franchise QB.

If we only get 2 players and don't pick up a significant 2021 pick I would consider that a massive fail.

Why wouldn't you just take someone at 24. And use the 3s you already had to get the second player your targeting?

I'd be upset if we don't fill 3 holes and get another bonus player or 2.

My dream scenario would be to take McKinney or Espensa at 37. Move up For Kmet. And get either Hurts or Fromm. Depending what it takes to move up maybe an OL too. 2 of the above and a solid 2021 pick works too. I just dont want 8 4th rders so the trades better make sense if we only get 2 players today.
At 37 mc Kinney or Epenesa or Gross Matos or Baun i would be happy

Depending on who is still available and how far they would be moving back, I may be okay with that. But if they move back and primo talent at positions of need come off the board, I think it will be safe to assume that we’re on our way to blowing yet another draft.

The player we wanted who will still be there at #37 would probably still be there in the third round. Praying I’m wrong.

Hurts has a good enough arm to get it downfield but his placement on deep balls is pretty bad. I think he might turn out to be a pretty good quarterback but you have to design the offense around him. The good news is, at worst, he's exactly the kind of backup QB every team should want - a guy who can actually play a role instead of just holding a clipboard.
Riley definitely helped but I thought he had some strides on things that took a minute to develop. Deep overs where he could cheat a little with his movements. Getting himself on the right platform.
Thought his anticipation and patience in the pocket looked calmer.

Like you said right system. Right group of guys around him. I'm definitely not opposed I like him.

A few of the players Bill has drafted in the second round would have been available in the fifth round.

Was Jordan Richards even projected to be drafted?

I wouldn’t say great, but I agree he was a hell of a lot better than Mallett. I thought Jimmy G looked better though, and that Stidham was bailed out of a few bad decisions by bad plays by the defense.

Nope:

Jimmy Garoppolo, 2014
46-for-79 (58.2%)
618 yards, 7.8 Y/A
5 TDs, 1 INT
3 sacks
4 rushes for 8 yards

Jarrett Stidham, 2018
61-for-90 (67.8%)
731 yards, 8.1 Y/A
4 TDs, 1 INT
102.6 rating
9 sacks
17 rushes for 88 yards

Comparing Jarrett Stidham's Rookie Preseason To Jimmy Garoppolo's With Patriots

Stidham was much better. And remember that Stidham was playing with a historically bad wide receiver and tight end group, if the consensus here is to be believed.

Not in the NFL, but because of his high intelligence, he was going to be picked up to work at the Large Hadron Collider.

McKinney ran a 4.6 forty, he may be available for a while unless someone (Dallas) likes slow safeties.

the 4.6 explains why burrows ate McKinney’s lunch in the Alabama-LSU game. As McKinney was constantly out of position or to slow to react.

Not to pump my own tires but I called Dugger this morning!

It hasn't happened often over the past 20 years so I have to brag when it does. :)

I just knew it was going to be a safety. Off to see highlights.

BB has a vision of creating monster tall athletic middle of the field secondary. Will be interesting to see what Kyle and Joejuan can do on the field together.

Im not gonna knock the pick too much. He actually looks athletic unlike Richards and Dawson.
