DRAFT Patriots OFFICIAL Draft Day thread - Night 1

Still enough talent on the board at the position, and he appears to be stockpiling picks for the rebuild.

BB needs to figure out what everyone else already knows, which is that the Patriots don't have LBs who can cover. Trading down and drafting more LBs that can't cover isn't going to help this team.

What do you guys who like Higgins see in him? I see a big slow 4.6 guy who doesn't separate, even against college teams #2 CBs since Ross was getting the star treatment, and got bailed out by an obscenely talented QB. He's kind of like Harry but without the RAC. Then again maybe that's a Belichick special, a guy who couldn't get open in college without being schemed that way.

I think getting 6'6 254 lb Kmet would be better on offense than Higgins since we already have a big bodied receiver in Harry. Having both creates mismatches.

Double dip TE is key.

Also think a good thing is that this team is going to grow together, there won't be a massive age divide between brady and the rest of the skill positions any more. Mr Optimistic:

QB - Stidham (Wins 9 games+ shows he's The Guy)
RB - Michel (Regains confidence behind better O line play)
TE1 - Kmet (Premium talent at last)
TE2 - Moss (Finally an X factor)
WR1 - Harry (Stays healthy)
WR2 - Meyers (Chemistry with Stidham)
WR3 - Olszewski (Chemistry with Stidham)

Then next year we get a ton of cap space and make it rain on Defence!

Harry #1?? :D Let's be more realistic how about hoping he's at least a #3. :D

I am all for a double TE draft. But McDaniels has never understood the importance of TE drafting, he inherited Gronk and he let TEs die in 2005-2006 (inherited and let Graham and Watson leave), now, in Denver, and in St Louis, now again

What the hell are you talking about? 2006 was the third highest target count of Watson's career.

The McDaniels' special is physical specimens with zero route running who can't get open. NKeal Harry, Aaron Dobson, Chad Jackson. I hope Caserio keeps McDaniels on Zoom mute during the entire draft.

You have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

I'm feeling 2 of our next 5 picks will be at TE.

Trautman/Kmet then Moss.

That may be true but the likelihood of them using all five of their 2nd/3rd round picks is low. If you listen to Caserio, they are poised to bundle some picks to move up. He referenced the possibility of only taking two players tonight.

A man can dream about his team drafting #1 receiver with their 1st round pick?!:D

Even if we just drafted by NFL.coms best remaining WR prospect we'd have had more luck...

Josh McDaniels has only been a head coach once. In that stint, he drafted 3 wide receivers.

Demaryius Thomas
Eric Decker
Kenny McKinley

So to claim that "The McDaniels' special is physical specimens with zero route running who can't get open." is ridiculous.

Did McDaniels screw your wife or something?

I have seen it referenced a lot, last night and today. So I have to ask.

When the flying fuk did Josh McDaniels become the Patiots' GM, draft guru, and president of football operations? Because it sounds like he is behind all of the bad offensive draft picks since 2002.

I enjoy a good scapegoat as much as the next guy, but jeezus, it sounds like McDaniels banged some folks' wives here.

Yeah but Kenny McKinley SUCKED

Yep let McDaniels play Madden like my Son. :D

Interesting. I hope we do pick a couple of TE's up, it would really help Stidham a great deal if we do and then they can all having growing pains together.

Dobson separated pretty well in college (albeit against MAC cover guys) and actually did pretty well in the pros, he was just never on the field and had lingering foot issues. Harry was intended, I think, as a Cordarrelle Patterson replacement so separation wasn't really a top consideration.

Kansas City made a luxury selection for a running back when you really don't want Mahomes handing it off or throwing it short and their defense still has significant holes, and all it takes is one dud game from the offense to sink them in the playoffs. They need to plan for the post-rookie contract era and a running back wasn't the way to do that.
I think their defense still has spagnola. As DC. The best big game playcaller . IMO. Then on offense now another super fast shifty guy. Mahomes can just throw quick screens and reverses all day long.

I vote for Higgins just to seen if the Captain can come up with a degrading nickname for him. T and H wouldn't give him much with which to work. Heavy-foot Higgins? Or maybe Tee the Tortoise?

If we only get 2 players and don't pick up a significant 2021 pick I would consider that a massive fail.

Why wouldn't you just take someone at 24. And use the 3s you already had to get the second player your targeting?

I'd be upset if we don't fill 3 holes and get another bonus player or 2.

My dream scenario would be to take McKinney or Espensa at 37. Move up For Kmet. And get either Hurts or Fromm. Depending what it takes to move up maybe an OL too. 2 of the above and a solid 2021 pick works too. I just dont want 8 4th rders so the trades better make sense if we only get 2 players today.
