2020 NEP Draft Big Board/Draft

I think he's a classic mid-late 1st round bust type of QB. People will see "physical tools" and project a whole lot of future traits that we've seen no evidence of his ability to develop. The reality is he's just a physically gifted player who isn't that great at football; not the kind of guy you should be burning an early pick for.

McGinn's article also mentions Tua's 13 on the Wonderlic and quotes a scout as saying that Tua mentally struggled with a pro style offense. Yikes.

If I am a GM, a 13 on the Wonderlic takes Tua off my board. And yes, it is POSSIBLE that this doesn't mean much; more likely it does mean something.

Isn't that the same score Lamar Jackson got?

I've been a fan for a while now. Not sure I see a full time TE but he's a football player and makes plays like that routinely even if there not as flashy. Lots of effort, hustle and plays that put the team first.

I wondered a few times if he could be a possible FB/TE hybrid. Undersized has the body for it and isn't afraid of contact. Isn't shy about sticking is nose in there.

I wonder why teams don't often try that more. Undersized guys that aren't afraid to block, can catch and coming out the backfield could help if they're not a great athlete-need help with releases.

He's definitely on the board and tested well. I'm probably higher on him than most.

I think this will be an exciting draft. Everything's in play. Trades up for Tua, trades down, staying in place. Maybe they like Hurts, maybe they love a tackle or receiver or Chaisson. Wish they had kept their 2nd, though, and I'm probably the most "Sanu is fine" poster on this board. 26 year olds weren't born the last time the Patriots were going into camp with an unknown at quarterback.

The 2nd round pick was either Sanu or some unknown safety or corner. I am fine with Sanu considering the options.

Belichick might still trade down and draft Delpit. Is he an unknown?

I mentioned this month's ago when talking about Davis on here and a few pm's. Really stood out against the best the other team had to offer. Was a focus of the other team and always came out looking good.
He's limited. I probably like him a little more than most but I see a player contributing in different ways. He's a one trick pony but really good at it. 6'2/215, Deep threat with 4.5 speed and plays as fast when he gets going. Very good on double moves as you'll see if the clip below. Very good stacking, subtly using his hands to keep his DB at bay. Good job not extending. Using his hands in route at the last second. + blocker. Could see him on ST as a gunner. This isn't Slater though. Davis is a real deep threat you'll have to account for.

I thought last year's SB really summed up the QB position in a lot of ways. Sure if it helps having Mahomes but its a little deeper than that.
Part of making a throw, is wanting to make it. If you don't have the confidence, it's unlikely you're sticking that throw in there with a real shot.
Some QB's, again forget about Mahomes, plenty of other guys are willing to attempt multiple "NFL passes" a game without design & out of structure.

Jimmy, as much as I love the handsome devil. Isn't that guy. He absolutely can make those types of plays, had the arm. But it's in structure, designed stuff & limited. Probably only asking him to make 6-7 big time passes a game.

When a game is on the line some of the x&o get thrown out the window. Players make plays.

Anticipation is key when looking at a QB. Hurts absolutely improved passing the ball in almost every way. I've always been a fan but he definitely stepped up this past season.

Passing between the hashes, MOF, crossers/over I saw a few really nice reads & passes. Progressions, anticipating and hitting his correct read in stride.

Its just you don't see it often enough. He definitely could keep improving? You're just going to need to really prop up everything around him.

One of the questions I ask myself when looking at QB's is, "can this guy go win a game"? Do I have to hide him or can he step up and win the game?

I've always liked Hurts though. Hope he lands in a good spot.

Hurts was passing against Big 12 defenses.

Mike Reiss: Virtual NFL draft might limit Patriots' penchant for making trades

Key Paragraph: How that all-encompassing process (making a trade) will unfold this year, with the 10 or so people who would normally be in the room (or at the draft itself) split up at their respective residences, probably won't be as easy.

I don't understand. The team has had months to prepare. The patriots have only about 7 key people on draft day. I have to believe that some one has set up a business quality video conferencing set up where everyone can see every one and easily work together. In addition, I would expect each of the key players to have another room setup for conferences with other teams. I suppose a 3rd setup could be for talking to our scouts and coaches. Sure, this might cost $200K to set up, but the problem isn't technological.

The patriots have a tremendous advantage in that very few are usually in the draft room, and very few are part of the draft day decision process.

Trades also depend on the other teams...and if they can't get their staff up and running like NE's then there will be delays and that could potential cost us in trades.
