Brady gone

Tom wanted a new challenge and away from BB. that’s all there is to it.

Not really all there is to it. After he was MVP and went to the Super Bowl in 2017 he wanted a multi year deal and didn’t get it. After he won the Super Bowl in 2018 he wanted a multi year deal and didn’t get it. Bill started phasing him out last year, in training camp not letting him coach up, instruct, or call out players when they were out of position and directing where they should be. Brady knew he wasn’t in their plans and couldn’t get a multi year deal so he asked not be able to be tagged.

If Bill would have committed to Brady beyond year to year Brady would still be a Patriot.

Listen to Curran on Rich Eisens show to hear what was really happening at last years training camp. It’s very interesting and shows Brady was being phased out by Bill.

One thing that is reality in football is salary cap.

If you look at current cap what does that mean? No cap space this year means "all in" the previous year? Is this something a 42 year old QB knows?

If you see Brady, van Noy , Collins, all walk away for cap reasons... Ya think maybe we had the talent last year.

Brady also was in contract year. Doesn't this usually cause players to perform at their best? Not if they are feeling their age, got one foot out the door, and pouty. Distracted..?

The biggest story if Brady succeeds in Tampa at all... will be what TF happened last year Tom.? (And Josh)

How exactly did NE coaches prevent Brady from yelling at/instructing new pass catchers?
Come on man
Curran has become the National media’s go to NE story teller..... so full of hindsight

The weirdest thing about this story of joint practices with the Titans is that Curran was the only beat guy who noticed the Brady/McDaniels scene and then kept it also for himself.

In an age where we get those practices essentially live tweeted by dozens of media guys.

Curren is super biased so I half don't even believe his claim here unless another person or actual tape actually validates this.

Curran’s basically been right all along. He was reporting months ago the differences between the parties and that Brady would likely leave. Whatever you think of him he has been the most connected reporter to Brady. Also, listen to the link to the interview on Eisen. He explains how they limited Brady and have an example from last years training camp.

Aactually , a Brady, MCD discord could explain the entire season.

Don't watch it..

Brady MCD meltdown RIGHT NOW on NFL NETWORK.

Superbowl 42. Ug ...

OMG pathetic play calling.

CORRECTION.. ITS FOX1 HD.. FS1HD

Officiating completely blew this entire game .

Belichick actually corrected blown call on punt (challenge 12 men) before half when leading 7-3. Then mcd blows the opportunity with crap calls.

Can't believe I'm reliving 2007 nightmare.. is it worse than current nightmare? Debatable.. ......

This interview floored me. I knew there was a good chance Brady was done once there was no long term deal last year plus the house on sale and all the bad noise. However, what Curran said about training camp was disgusting. I would never have stood for that if I were Brady. It also makes no sense why the Patriots would do something so stupid; it's cutting your nose to spite your face.

It’s one of the worst games I’ve ever watched. The Pats D many opportunities for turnovers in the first half. McDaniels turned into the old evil coach in “The Waterboy” when he ran out of plays to run.

Nonsense.

They left because Belichick wouldn't pay them. That is entirely different thing. Look at the McCourty contract. It costs the patriots $5.4M of 2020 cap room. Do you think that the patriots offered that to Collins? Of course not. With regard to Van Noy, an even larger contract could have worked out with a similar cap hit or a couple of million more.
Bill chose to keep McCourty and not to break the bank of Van Noy.

It's like arguing who broke up with who. Fact is Belichick wanted to go year to year and not do 2 years guaranteed. It wasn't Brady who walked away.

Tom Curran's example is terrible. He says a WR was lined up wrong so Brady pointed at Josh to fix it. Very weak proof to extrapolate that Brady was told NOT to help coach any players. That's crazy

???

Time will tell?

In 10 years, folks will still be arguing as they are about Welker and so many others in BB/Brady era. Heck, folks still argue about Parcells, Bledsoe and Martin.

I know there will always be arguments, but over the next 2 years we should have a better understanding as to who was more "underappreciated" which is what the question above was about.

As an aside, what happens next year won't give us much of an answer to the Bellichick or Brady question. ESPN show a Vikings Packers game from 2009 the other night. It was in October of that year and Farves' first chance to play against the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. Farve was great in that game and beat the Packers. In fact he outplayed Rodgers all season and took the Vikes all the way to the NFCCG, while the Pack was one and done in the playoffs.

After that year there was a lot of talk about the Packers making a mistake getting rid of Farve too soon. Looking back a decade later, clearly they did the right thing despite Farve's All pro 2009 season.

Just a thought.
Hi Ken, not disagreeing with anything your are saying, but the Rogers and Farve thing was about which QB to keep, not about QB vs coach. If Stidham is 2/3s of Rogers it was a great decision to move on. But as to Brady vs BB, the next 2 seasons will provide at least some information on that question.

Cap didn't allow paying them. They were paid last year and played well. Hence the point team was " all in".

Too bad the offense Sucked Beyond Belief in Brady's contract year. While MCD couldn't manage to make it work.

They can not pay everyone...period. They had to pick a few to keep and some they couldn't. They have to put a team together of 53 players. You see how little cap space they have now. In the past they have had to cut, trade or release far superior players to Van Noy and Collins because of cap reasons....e.g. McGinest, Milloy, Vrabel.
BB looks at value which means anticipated production versus cost.
Say what you will but over the years he has done pretty damn good with judging value.

That actually occurred during the third quarter, but your point still stands...
