A bit of an eye opener. These plans have been on standby for 3 weeks. God forbid were in a position where T J O'Shank needs to run the show. Would be worst of the worst of the worst.

Exclusive: Inside the military's top secret plan if coronavirus cripples the government
The four-star general who would command the US if coronavirus cripples the government | Daily Mail Online
Aside from China, a totalitarian government, there's been no indication of these measures being required in any of the other affected democracies. I can't see this happening.

There seem to be several posters getting themselves ready for a collapse of civilian rule and institutions in some type of real world version of video game Fallout.

My stance is simple.

Prisoners belong in prison.

If I have tk choose between a prisoner living and my loved ones i choose my loved ones.

Have the balls to admit you feel the same way.

If you dont then i feel bad for your loved ones.
Except of course, the ones who don't. And don't try to pretend there aren't people in prison who don't belong there. Many who NEVER belonged there.

I am fine with it if its legitimately gonna help save lives.

I dont know how this spiraled out of control. Perhaps I'm just too direct and blunt.

All of my points regarding the initiative were made in support of the argument that it seems clear that's exactly what it's designed to do, save lives by minimizing the risk to all involved.

I can't speak for others but it got 'out of control' with me when you began taking me to task over points I wasn't making.

In some parts of the south you can even get lost in the system over a few grams.

damn that’s crazy. All of that stems from the political issues with South America years ago. Or was it Central America?

20 years ago in R.I., one could be sentenced to 25 years in prison for possession of marijuana over 112 grams. Today, one can possess the entire crop produced from six outdoor plants..legally..with a state issued marijuana patient card. With ample sunlight, rich soil and plentiful watering, one can reasonably expect to harvest 1-3 POUNDS of marijuana per plant.

But don't let that stop the horde of Judge Roy Bean's in this thread from popping off on a complex problem they haven't the first clue about. Prison populations are mere hairs on the overall back of the corona virus ogre. Actions taken have to be for the good of ALL, not just those who are subjectively deemed "worthy".

Bring that up to your local senator. Not an issue I can solve.

I don’t think so either but I am sure every country in the world is going over their lines of succession are in order. Merkel in Germany going into self quarantine, Johnson in UK already has a cabinet successor, etc.

From what I understand our govt has lines of succession so deep that eventually the DA of Chicago gets a shot at the office if a mass number of heads get knocked off at once.

This book talks about the plans extensively. I began reading it before I moved back east and I wish it wasn’t boxed up somewhere because it would be a good one to finish during quarantine. Basically the President wasn’t so important in a mass casualty event but the Office of the President always needed to be accounted for, with a legitimate successor lined up for any circumstance.

guess you don't yet understand the reason behind the military underground complex 2000 feet under solid granite at Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado....the truth is, all the politicians and "leaders" in our country are collateral damage in the event of ANY nationwide holocaust. Here is where the decisions will be made post apocalyptic event...under martial law and decided by the generals.

A non-political example of the need for both facts and context before acting or spouting off with regards to things related to the coronavirus situation (those here who are actually thinking will understand how this relates to what I've been saying in this thread).

...Meet Jennifer Dopazo, whose Twitter bio says she used to work at the New York Times. Dopazo went full “Karen” in a now-deleted series of tweets and accused a local butcher of selling a product with a “fake weight” because she doesn’t understand that 1.63 lbs (on the label) is the same as 1lb 10oz (on the scale)...

Asked about things that “are being said that aren’t true and aren’t factual” in a new interview with Science magazine, Fauci said he tells “the appropriate people” and they speak to Trump, “be careful about this and don’t say that. But I can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down. OK, he said it. Let’s try and get it corrected for the next time.” Fauci also gave a “no comment” when asked whether he’d been reprimanded for covering his face when Trump referred to the “deep State Department.” The moment has since gone viral.

And just for the fun of it again, the Fauci face palm...

"General Joker" . I'm ok with that. Sir.

This isn’t about the guy in 10 days for a DWI. Let’s be real here.
Actually it is because the person crying about this launched their tirade over the idea that non violent incarcerated people and those near release should be let out early. They just started screaming about felons and rapists and murderers to try to take some moral high ground.

But it was quite literally about the prospects of releasing someone who might be in there on ten days for a dui

I'm so damn confused.

If they already have it then letting them out to avoid getting it is moot.

So what again is the point

To me I find it comforting that a state government is thinking about all of its citizens incarcerated or not.

You're correct that most in prison are there for a reason but I disagree with your binary notion that making an informed decision regarding what's the most ethical way to handle each prisoner's situation during a pandemic somehow subtracts something from those who are not in prison.

They are not opening the gates and pulling the fire alarm. They are simply looking to release those who are nearing and end of their sentence or are considered low level criminals that are no threat to the community. And yes that includes county jails or people who were just locked up and are awaiting trial.

This is the problem
U.S. axed CDC expert job in China months before coronavirus outbreak

He dis this after the virus war game. Our president is worse than incompetent, he is dangerous
Some don't think it would have mattered much.

Quote from the end of the article.

“In the end, based on circumstances in China, it probably wouldn’t have had made a big difference,” Scott McNabb, who was a CDC epidemiologist for 20 years and is now a research professor at Emory University. “The problem was how the Chinese handled it. What should have changed was the Chinese should have acknowledged it earlier and didn’t.”
