In coronavirus crisis, Trump's stock market advice keeps looking worse

“The virus story is not going to last forever,” Kudlow said in an interview. “I would suggest very seriously taking a look at the market, the stock market, that is a lot cheaper than it was a week or two ago.”

Five Senators now:
Senator Richard Burr
Senator Kelly Loefner
Senator Dianne Feinstein,
Senator Ron Johnson
Senator Jim Inhofe

And yes, this is very much illegal. The STOCK (Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge) Act was signed soon after Obama called out this practice in his 2012 SotU.

Cool, man.

You can point fingers at Trump, but consider that virtually every non-SARS country has had the same lagging response. All of Western Europe is going through it; much of the world is going through it. This virus is just a btch because it spreads despite not showing symptoms. That’s almost impossible to stop or control unless you immediately went into a total lockdown to slow the spread significantly and can only be ended when a cure or vaccine is available.
It's a fair point, it's possible that even if we'd acted more quickly we still would have lost this battle. We'll never know I guess.

It’s an unprecedented situation, right. It’s hard to say. Trump is very stubborn but he also suspended flights from China over 30 days ago. Who knows if that helped immensely? We don’t. We could be like Italy right now.

Not piling on the administration but that failed Crimson Contagion exercise run last year mirrored the issues faced when the real pandemic hit. There was ample opportunity to start addressing the shortfalls but that didn’t happen.

Don’t care much about what Trump did/didn’t do. Western civilization was all duped by this virus.

The thinking in everyone’s mind is that a virus outbreak is like a fire, and you need a to put it out with water. That’s how all of these other epidemics (SARS, MERS, Enola, swine flu) have been handled.

But this outbreak essentially can’t be put out with water. Attacking it by isolating the sick doesn’t work. Instead you need to let the fire burn and have everyone hide from it.

So sure, maybe he called it a hoax. That changes nothing about the collision course of Coronavirus on the world population. One guy isn’t responsible. But sure do hope he locks everything down immediately.

What would have helped is a complete travel ban. Allowing Americans that were not screened and returning from China busted any hope of containment.

Oh, don't say that. Given New York and California (and explosions about to happens in many other places), please don't say that.

In hindsight, it would have. And Trump would have faced enormous criticism.

Let’s remember this is another strain of Coronavirus. Previous strains were contained. It was hard to imagine two months ago we’d be where we are now, or about to be.

This pandemic will be absolutely brutal, but people will never second guess taking swift, “extreme” measures immediately again.

Maybe, and I hate to say it but if he did that he would’ve been called xenophobic especially that early in the game. ****, he was labeled xenophobic for suspending travel from China. It’s a no win, man. I don’t know. A complete shutdown of the US isn’t the resolution.

Maybe it helped a little, maybe not. The disease was already here. A complete shutdown at that time would have had to have been from more than China, as it was already in other countries. 325,000 people come into the US via air EVERY DAY.

And we weren't testing.

Probably and his history with not distancing himself from certain groups would have made it more difficult on him but what happened in Iran and Italy would have proven that decision was correct.

But that’s hindsight and maybe next time the Chinese won’t suppress people and data, which would have really helped to contain this to just China.

Cool, man.
It’s actually pitiful. These are elected positions meant to serve the people. Instead they use their briefings to preserve their capital while their constituents get hammered.

Know what’s pitiful? You turning this into political **** when this global crisis clearly isn’t political. If you’re not an idiot, you could clearly see both parties coming together trying to figure **** out. I mean, if you want to stay on your side and be an *******, that’s on you.

My personal view on Trump is that, yes, he was unprepared and foolishly attempted to downplay it and it did have an impact with a delayed response and testing. Trump screwed up, shocker. And now he refuses to acknowledge any missteps and has his cronies kissing his butt about how wonderfully he handled everything. I’d have been surprised if he did handle it properly from the outset.

All that being said, you cannot and should not blame him entirely. The outbreak has blindsided the entire world (outside of the medical experts). An outbreak was going to happen in the US regardless, especially since we now know it can be spread by people without symptoms.

The response of Trump was dismal (to say the least) but would a better response have contained the virus in a country like ours? I’m not so sure about that.

My expectations for Trump are so frigging low that I’m actually relieved and glad he is taking it seriously right now. I wouldn’t have put it past him to still have his head in the sand at this stage.

Are we going to see any charges against the congresspeople who dropped their stocks after learning about this? In an odd way I'm glad it was both Ds and Rs who pulled this **** that way it won't be chalked up to partisan hackery to want to see them face the goddamn music.

Everybody was Kung Flu Fighting
It spread as fast as lightning
In fact, it was a little bit frightening
TRUMP fought with expert timing

I remember Trump being called a racist when he restricted travel from China in January 6 weeks ago. The MSM was busy with impeachment at the time. Biden cal ed it racist.

Just throwing some numbers out there according to most recent data for New England. Take it how you will.

Cases:
Mass: 328
Connecticut: 159 (2 deaths)
Rhode Island: 44
New Hampshire: 44
Maine: 52
Vermont: 22 (2 deaths)

New England population: 14,810,000 (https://worldpopulationreview.com/regions/new-england-population/)

649 cases out of 14,810,000 = 0.00438% have been confirmed in NE

4 deaths out of 14,810,000 means 1 out of 3,700,000 in NE have died thus far by this virus.

United States Coronavirus: 14,340 Cases and 217 Deaths - Worldometer
