When you blow your drafts, you are forced to rely more on free agents.

Really hoping they knock it out of the park this year. Sadly I’ve seen armchair gms draft better than these guys over the last couple of years. Mind you, it’s just their hobby.

Honestly, there are a lot of "armchair GMs" who are pretty consistently good at evaluating talent year in and year out. Can even find them here. I'm sure it's more complicated than that in the real job with work politics, dealing with faces instead of numbers, etc, but it should no longer be surprising when a fan is good at knowing who will pan out.

We also need to add some genuine talent.

On this board, "genuine talent" is usually defined as $12M a year players, at least for the first few weeks of free agency. We have just finished Day 2.

Everyone expected us to lose Thuney and McCourty. Do they count as "real" talent?

They aren't additions, and who expected to lose McCourty?

This makes me think that we won't draft a Safety... Maybe we can go a whole draft without drafting a Secondary player

Sign Derek Wolfe, draft an edge rusher with the first pick.

Do those two things and I’m alright with this defense in 2020.

I'm fine with Wolfe. However, we need LB and DT help more than EDGE help. We are really thin up the middle.

So, now we have 3 backup safeties who are special teamers: Phillips, Brooks, and Obiwan.

I suspect that we shouldn't list Slater, King or Bethel as position players, just as special teamers.

Im with you Mg. Good DTs are hard to find... for years we've been getting very good specialists, but not great players (L. Guy being the one great DT)

I wouldnt mind drafting a DT high.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you are talking about Harrison when then last sd safety we had was Steve Gregory. Most people forget about Steve.
Most people probably don’t realize he’s the current DB coach for the Lions!

His personality reminds me a ton of Lawyer Milloy

Look at their stats. Completely different results. Phillips lines up at LB, FS, SS & excels at ST’s. He was really taking off until his arm broke. I can’t wait to see how BB uses him. I don’t remember that being said by many with Brooks.

I agree. This is a pretty nice value signing.

Now sign Wolfe, 3 linebackers, 2, wr, 2te
Then ready for the draft.
not funny

I would add a QB and a DT

Some of the LB's will come in the draft.

Hightower's and Bentley plus draft should be fine for LB. Though patriots do need an athletic Lb who can cover. Unless they plan to use jujuan William's in that role

Wolfe is borderline DT. Still not the kind of DT we need considering we still have Butler and Guy.

Bentley took a step back last season.
