So after trading away the Ravens 6th for a player whom they cut two days later, they essentially traded Eluemunor for a 4th. Brutal. The guy wasn't even good enough to be active on game day. The 6th for Cunningham also looks like a wasted pick. Terrible last week of the preseason for BB the GM.

- The Hollister trade had no conditions, so even though he didn’t make Seattle’s initial 53 (he did sign with their practice squad), Pats still keep Seattle’s 7th rounder.

Nice, as of 3-19-2020 at 11:00 am, the Patriots select five of the top 125 players.

This has the feel of the remaking of the Bruins from a team that was a grinder to a team that can run with anybody . The Patriots can go from the oldest team in the NFL to one of the youngest. That youth will have quality players all over the field.

This team looks like it is shifting gears from a running team to a RPO team given Stidham's skill set and the QBs in the draft.

I like where this is going right now - the Patriots are focused on competing with the Chiefs and the Ravens and their extraordinary speed and quickness. I'd love to see them add another rookie WR who can fly to Harry, Edelman, Meyers, and keep Dorsett. That guy could come anywhere in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Josh McDaniels and BB are probably looking forward to installing a new look to the Patriots that is not dependent on receivers fitting the needs of the QB so intensely as it's been that last few years with an aging Brady.

They have to be looking at this season differently. From a game planning point of view, they will still put in those things that take advantage of the opponents' weakness and do what they can to neutralize the opponent's strengths. But these guys are realists and cannot expect the next QB to do what Brady could do at the line of scrimmage and after the snap.

The read and react offense was so completely built on Brady's uncanny ability to know where the opportunity would be based on what he saw at the line that his receivers were under pressure to see the same thing Brady saw. They cannot expect the next QB to do the things Brady could do to look off defenders and go through his progression the way TFB did.

We need to look at 2020 the way we watched 2001 after Brady took over and ran a simpler, move-the-chains offense with heavy reliance on the backs. The long-ball passing game evaporated when Bledsoe went down. Brady didn't really break out and have a full green light until 2006 when the caliber of his weapons was inadequate.

What we're seeing right now is BB shedding the older, slower defensive players to rebuild to compete with the best teams in the AFC. The days of grinding it out to win a 2018 style title by either relying on Brady to bail them out (KC in the AFCC) or the defense to mawl a big running game (Rams in the Super Bowl) are gone.

...I expect bb to trade away most the 6th and 7th rounders on draft day, because let’s face facts, we do not have that many roster openings.

This is now sadly no longer the case...

Right you are. I fixed the original post. The Patriots have five of the top 125 - one 1st, three 3rds, and a 4th.

My point about getting younger remains the same, however. Belichick always keeps his 1-4 rounders on the team heading into week one. Last year's haul of seven 1-4 rounders was a good one in my book, and I think they are all still on the team. The guys I'd love to see emerge are Williams at DB and Damien Harris at RB, (and Jarrett Stidham, of course.)

• Round 4, Pick 133: Jarrett Stidham, Auburn.

Adding five more guys next month to the group above goes a long way towards rejuvenating a team that grew old.
