Okay in no particular order:
I wanted to stay as non-political as I can, just my personal perspective. But I do have to take this one shot, because I'm in f* it, I need a laugh mode:
I'll say this:
This thread made me realize that Brazil's political discussions aren't that far behind of those made in supposed developed countries
They pulled Trump aside a week ago and said the he'd had contact with coronavirus carriers.
"My Me," Trump said (where most of us would say "My God,") "How many? Were they Americans?"
"Two Brazilians"
"My Me," he repeated, paused, then asked,
"How many is a Brazilian?"
A labored retread of a George II joke, but somehow it's managed to be even more on point. Okay moving on...
You are wasting your time.
Right. In general or in this thread though? I mean, if you think about it, it's going to be hard to find anybody who doesn't feel like they're wasting their time these days...
Wait RW, let's not just dismiss this so quickly.
What would it mean if he continued to behave this way? No macho, no insecurity screaming through his body language, no distortions, no need to control a false narrative. Little affect, not much tonality to his voice. Just says what he's told to say and quietly finishes up.
How would we interpret that? Is he just too exhausted at this point? Overly despairing? All that raging at people has got to eventually empty a person.
If we see more performances like this, bring on the shrinks for interpretations, please.
He was fighting so hard to keep that demeanor together. It was fascinating to watch him catch himself. I think he's been promised he gets to be the Coronamessius if the public health thing works, so. Plus, he's so far proved to be the most big-government prez we've ever had. He's all about corporate bailouts.
He's trying to figure out how he can get the most out of coronavirus. He could put his money, or more accurately ours, on an endless cavalcade of stimulus, cash into everybody's pocket, etc. He could hear he's losing his base and do a 180. Stay tuned. He's not right, he's not left, he's pro-him, like ideology-free predecessors. He. Wants. The. Power. This worries me, because right about now his ideological betes-noire are asking for the military's help. Gni gni gni.
He was champing at the bit to carry forward some right wing bulletin board's proclamations, but he's made the calculation that for now, he has to say "the market will take care of itself," he's got to at least pretend that enormous numbers of people will be made whole, he's all in on everybody sheltering in place, etc. He probably plans to pretend the average guy will be made whole to keep them off the streets, then "renegotiate deals." Who knows.
I thought they were a people’s republic
Soilent Green. It's... PEOPLE.
Just closed all bars and the restaurants are now take out, delivery or pickup. For 15 days initially but that will be extended for about at least 2 months if my guess is correct.
We should make that mandated nationally. States & localities will have a rando patchwork of approaches. CDC guidance (the national level) is not mandated. It's voluntary. That means everybody won't do it - so it's better than nothing, but it's the path to Italy, not South Korea.
Ya, sounds as neat as a democratic socialist.
Or a Republican socialist, come to that.
The hilarious part of this whole issue is that Trump's become Sanders but more socialist, and Mitt "Let Detroit go Bankrupt" has rehabilitated himself with a vote against Trump, then became Andrew Yang.
This is SO 2000 and late.
