Rumor is, yesterday somebody in our area has it. Fear and paranoia was present with people. So, this is really just day 2 for me. I have a feeling mostly everybody in this area will get sick.

Ill keep site updated. Rn I feel good. However i fear since 1 had it yesterday, 5 people probably caught it. Ripple effect.
99.7 survival rate for healthy people under 50.

Be smart and you'll be fine

Currently in a third world country that still has no cases confirmed (but supposedly DOES have the experience/infrastructure to deal with it). Sad part is that a lot of personnel are stuck here now with no way to get home. DoD put out a 60 day moratorium on movement. A few people were supposed to leave next week, but they're here until May now.

A few of us are joking that it'll be Mad Max by the time it's our turn to leave, so we're making wacky plans on how to navigate (and probably fight) our way through some iffy spots to get to a boat and sail to America

Im pretty confident ill be fine.

Earlier, I said that im more worried about my mom, paranoia outside and water shortage. If theres US lockdown, what if people run out of food? We have 5 people in our place currently. Any opinions?

Italy has done a terrible job with this.

Ive heard nothing out of the UK.

Food is not an issue. Toilet paper and hand sanitizer, yes.

If it makes you more comfortable stock up. My belief is this will calm down in 2-3 weeks

Im scared people will be even more paranoid outside today.

The unnecessary panic generated by the media is going to be the worst part of this pandemic, by far.

You have a .01% chance of dying from this virus (assuming you even get it in the first place), statistically speaking. That's just a bit higher than the odds of dying in a car crash.

The odds of you dying from heart disease, cancer, or an opoid overdose, are much, much higher. Yet the vast majority of people don't bother with adopting a lifestyle that help you avoid those things.

Life is weird, sometimes.

Once they get this thing contained, it will get better. It will probably get worse before it gets better though.

The case-fatality rate for covid-19 is much higher than .01%, particularly at older ages. It's interesting to see people just make up numbers in what I assume is an attempt to assuage their own fears, but this is absolutely going to scythe through the Baby Boomer generation if it continues on its current trajectory

Today was, different. Im young still. Admittely, my life wasn't always easy. Still isnt. I suffer from mental issues and anxiety. However, I'll save that story for another day. What I mean is, I've never seen people that paranoid. I saw fear and restlessness.

Going to get worse over the week. Even if this ends in a month, the next two weeks are guaranteed uncharted territory for me. People outside seem restless. That increases everyday.

Yep. Another couple of weeks of this crap.

I just don't want my over 35 basketball league cancelled. :p

That would be the apocalypse.

Excellent article this morning with nice graphics that illustrate the beliefs of infectious disease epidemiologists and underscore the stunning importance of early action based on science-based national policy.

Opinion | How Much Worse the Coronavirus Could Get, in Charts

I'm 62, and my wife is 57 with a history of pneumonia. We are pretty tense right not.

And I'm just amazed at how often I touch my face, now that I'm focusing self awareness there.

Actually, I believe the worst (psychologically speaking) is yet to come because the number of tests available is woefully low at this point (The CDC has cited that as an "epic fail"). As more and more tests become available to the public, and more and more people take it and test positive, this will give the false impression that the pandemic is "exploding." This will probably create more unnecessary panic.

If you look at China, they're already past their peak. From mid-December when the virus was first reported, to now- that's just a little over three months.

However, their shutdown was far more draconian than what would ever be allowed in a democracy. With that in mind, I would give us probably a few more months than that timeline, depending on what level of intervention we engage in, in terms of "flattening the curve."

Don't get reckless.

Stay smart. People aged 55+ have right to be scared. However, don't let fear consume you.

"But the most straightforward and compelling evidence that the true case fatality rate of SARS-CoV-2 is well under 1 percent comes not from statistical trends and methodological massage, but from data from the Diamond Princess cruise outbreak and subsequent quarantine off the coast of Japan.

A quarantined boat is an ideal—if unfortunate—natural laboratory to study a virus. Many variables normally impossible to control are controlled. We know that all but one patient boarded the boat without the virus. We know that the other passengers were healthy enough to travel. We know their whereabouts and exposures."

That the fatality rate is much higher for older people (especially 70 plus) is what pulls the odds up to .01%

Very interesting. Stay safe!

Least Jetefan69 will be okay since he currently quarantined in his room. His mothers basement.
