Oh, there will be a test balloon here in America sometime in the next few months about a national crisis requiring continuity in leadership, and corrupting the voting process. If it doesn't drive the disapproval ratings much higher, there will be some kind of move from the Senate to put off the November election "for a year or until the pandemic has cleared up and the country fully recovered."

All my Taiwanese friends point to their experience with SARS as one of the reasons their government was prepared to take quick action and their population largely following recommendations/best practices. Same goes for many other countries in the region, after the initial spread.

A couple things. When did i say it made difference? I understand more than most about how the disease spreads but more about that in a minute. You defended Biden's snowflake attacks, fine. I dont like the whole snowflake talking point thing either but be real. Biden clearly was dismissing the seriousness of the virus and was looking for political points by describing it as Trump hysteria. Im a health care giver and work that works in a hospital that has several positive covid 19 virus patients. I know pretty much as anyone how it spreads and the risks. We also have several presumptive cases being tested now. I have been directly involved with them. I am in a top risk group being over 65. Im not defensing Trump or Biden. Practically everyone was ignorant of what we're dealing with. You're playing politics along with Trump and Biden.

I'm telling you that Trump has failed this - period. And he has. He lost whatever credibility he ever had (although how he ever had any is beyond me). in the same campaign stop where Biden was decrying the travel ban - which really made little sense in teh way it was enacted, he was calling for other measures to be put in place.

And of course it's politics - being the leader in a time of crisis is the very definition of politics. Want to see how Trump is doing? Compare testing in the US to South Korea and other areas - and we refused the WHO kits because...because why?

Trump downplayed it day after day. "A hoax." "It'll just disappear." We are weeks behind where we need to be, and months behind where we'd be if someone hadn't dismantled the Pandemic Response Chain of Command at the White House.

He's failed. Utterly.

By the way, it was the Governor of California that convinced Eiger to close Disney. Leadership from the White House has been...nonexistent.

Not sure what that has to do with declaring a national emergency that would free up billions and remove red tape to help the states in dealing with this pandemic. He doesn't need anyone's permission to do it.

"Such a declaration, made under the Stafford Act, would allow federal officials to help with numerous virus-related issues — transportation, shelters, mobile hospitals, public safety. It would also allow money to be used from FEMA's disaster relief fund, which has a balance of more than $40 billion."

Apparently associations representing the country’s hospitals, nurses, and doctors asked that Trump declare a national emergency under the 1988 Stafford Act, but he's not acting. So much for being able to make a decision.

I have to admit that it is nice to see that, for the first time in 3+ years, liberals advocating for Presidential powers....

We’re in that boat now too. My kids schools are closed here in San Jose. The domino effect is far reaching.

Yeah. My kids' schools in San Jose haven't closed, but it's just a matter of time. Middle child was told to have her Chromebook charger at home for the likely event of online classes. All extracurricular activities at the high school my oldest attends and at the middle school on Chromebook alert have been suspended. No athletics. No performing arts. No clubs. Lots of sad kids who were excited about upcoming events, competitions and performances.

What’s blowing my mind is how fast this went from it’s like the flu, wash your hands, cover your mouth when coughing, and be extra careful around the elderly/immune system compromised to schools are closing for weeks, maybe a month in a 24 hour time span. I got the notice from my sons school tonight at dinner that they are closed at least tmrw and for the foreseeable future but they will let us know when they have more information. What changed? It’s the same thing we have known about for a month now and yet all of a sudden it’s the deadliest virus of all time that has shut down society.

We were led to believe it was under control because the numbers indicated such. There were no positive test results, due to an inadequate testing protocol that has been badly exposed when compared to competent responses across the globe.

Here's the scoop, please think about it before replying: The difficulty here appears to lie in your personal identification with our current president. You are taking criticism of him as condemnation of the conservative ideology and values you hold dear; this is light years from the truth. As I've said several times now, I am not a liberal -- I respect the tenets of conservatism and the Republican party. I have everything AGAINST a phony, incompetent lying bastard selfishly steering us to ruin. I am not "superior" in any way, but I do know objective truth vs. swallowing a bill of goods from someone who's cynically playing his base like a fiddle.
