ANNOUNCEMENT OK - So here's the deal regarding moderation. Pull up a chair.

It's such an emotional/ fast happening thread that it can be very difficult but knowing who is posting can very helpful to determine if the post was just emotional or trolling.

Bless whoever moderates the GDT. That must be absolute hell.

You can go visit many of the 31 other teams forums and see the results of not being the New England Patriots (not always being magically saved by the ridiculous success of the team) and the muck that the forums have degraded into.

I'm sorry but I just can't let that go unchallenged.
Most of the 'other 31's forums' have never even risen to the level of muck never mind degraded into it. The bulk of them are like our GDT 24/7

For all of the complaining going on in here perhaps along the way you missed what was happening right under your nose. Deus can complain all he wants but I have worked tirelessly to eliminate political and religion discussion in this forum. Most members here who come to talk football appreciate this. It leaves them free to talk football. Opinions are not moderated ... rules violations are moderated regardless of what the some may think.

It has taken me hundreds of hours to clean it up ... great that it is gone.
I was a huge political forum guy ... but I have great distaste for it in the football area.

Those who were making political or religion remarks here got their post removed and a message to them went along with it ... you know who you are.

A few here seem to think they own the board more than others. They attack and harass anyone they deem a troll. A mod trying to figure out exactly what a troll is can be difficult. If you have continually attacked someone you thought a troll then you got deleted ... such is life. Ian put the ignore feature in for a reason ... find it and use it.

As for Patjew ... I love the guy ... but it was already in the rules that if your post was in a trail of bad it could be removed to clean the thread and get it back on topic.

Lastly ... there's a message box ... send the mods a message asking why you were deleted if you really don't know .... whomever did it will respond. Before you post a new thread ... please consider if it might get hijacked into a political or religious discussion. Also it only takes 1 person to post a political or religious post and others jump on it and the thread becomes a mess. How about reporting it. I cannot read through all the threads ... I do have a life and we do this for free for the good of the board.

Lastly - lastly ... as a mod (Patters) taught me long ago said:
"If you feel a need to insult someone then you have already lost the debate.
People insult because they have lost the proof they seek." he was correct.

How about doing more research to strengthen your hand ... we have people here who do this.
When they do it draws others into the discussion ... and we get a great thread out of it.

If someone is truly to ignorant to see the truth ... perhaps it's time to move on from them.

We're no Chief's Planet ... thank God for that.

True...there are many reasons PatsFans is the best forum and I’m not suggesting this forum will degrade into that when the Patriots dynasty ends. Just pointing out there will be a lot more negative posters and more challenges when your team isn’t Superman for 20 years.

Meh - while I appreciate that, the goal is just to hopefully provide some insight into the reasoning behind how things are done here.

It sucks and having to remove posts and moderate in general isn't easy and I wish there was a perfect way to do it. But I want people to know why they're removed while also understanding that even posts we delete are sometimes ones that we agree with, they're just tied to ones that weren't part of the original topic of the thread (or were a response to the original problem post) and that's why they're removed.
How about creating an "Inappropriate Posts Forum"?

Where we can say whatever we want to each other...

So mods can send it all there. All of us there will both like the Pats and hate PC.

Hell of a post, Icy.

"I'm here for an argument."

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry, this is Abuse.

...just take the second door on the right, down the hall. Have a good day!"

Using the ignore feature is a sign of acute fragility - it's no surprise that it's heavily used by people in this thread screeching about safe spaces because their precious internet words got deleted.

There are certain people here I'm convinced either aren't really a fan of this team or, more likely, their fandom is centered around the juice they get from hating on the team 24x7. I'm just not wired to ignore every bit of BS I see.

So what if I refuse to use the ignore function, refuse to not give someone crap if I think they're being ridiculous, and am fine with my posts being deleted? Does that constitute thinking I own the board more than others? This is a sincere question I'm asking with no malice or intent to start a debate with you. I'm fine with whatever you say I just want to understand.

I have never used it ever in all my 20 years here ... see no point.
As for your question ... yes ... as a mod it is easy to see who is a bully.
Why they think being a bully makes them correct is inane to me ... opposite of using logic and facts.

We don't have many of them here ... the result of hard mod work.

I have no doubt the fallout and angry PMs are hell, but participating in the GDT without the power to kick people out of it is no picnic either.

The entire cast of the I-Can't-Wait-To-****-On-The-Patriots Players need to be booted from the GDT for life. Ashley totally allows reasonable negative reactions, as she should. But there's a very clear difference between expressing anger with the team for failure to execute and what certain posters in the GDT are there to do. Specific people always try to cast what they're doing as somehow reasonable when nobody with the emotional maturity above an angry chimpanzee would view what those posters are saying as reasonable.

You should've seen some of the troll stuff written with the sole intent of annoying the rest of the posters during SB 51 when the Pats were down 28-3.

.

TLDR: Don't be a d!ck. If you are or respond to someone who is being one, you both get punished.

Sounds a lot like sensible parenting :)

I missed what spurred this reminder - but can't see how anyone could have an issue with the policy. It may be the most rational thing I have ever read on the internet!

Thank you, Ian.
Two wrongs don't make a Wright.

Great post! Your efforts are appreciated by the vast majority of forum members. And you are also a heck of a poster while at the same time moderating. It’s hard to imagine how you can moderate all the time and also engage is so many discussions.

I think you really “get it” and use your common sense, which is the right approach. This is a light hearted (usually) football chat forum and a darn good one...you’re able to pick up early on clues when things are about to veer off course, and I think people don’t understand that it’s better to blow it up too early than too late.

Just curious about something. Ian says in this post that it is never personal. Yet in the original post a mod is calling me a troll. So is it personal or not?

I literally have never trolled. I have held opinions you haven't liked. That isn't trolling. I legitimately think N'Keal Harry is a bad football player. Just because you don't like that opinion doesn't make me a troll.

And you lose all credibility when you say it is never personal but that TheAdultintheRoom is a big fat troll, that's why we delete all his posts.

My name is obviously a joke, but I really have been the adult about certain things and still get the short end of the stick. There are a couple of posters here that constantly respond to my on topic posts with stupid "her der you're the PoopyfaceintheRoom" posts. It just happened in PatJew's post. These posts never get deleted and they always get likes. And I never respond. Yet I'm the troll.

So my guess is that at some point I disagreed with the wrong person on here, they complained to their mod friends, and now I'm targeted. I'm a horrible troll and need to be dealt with because I don't agree with the right people about the right issues.

I don't Ignore users but I do find Ignore Thread a great feature. Sometimes used on threads that start with OT:, but not always. Cleans up my page. I think I used it once/twice in the last month.
