WR depth

People really need to stop with the Sanders BS. First, his SalCap hit was $2m more than Sanu. The Pats couldn't have fit him in at the time. And 2nd, he's a UFA at the end of the season.

really missing Malcolm Mitchell ... he would have done well
Edelman ... two years left, then its good bye
Sanu ... Im sure he stays just because of the 2nd
Harry ... will get better
Meyers ... Despite the no show, I like him... hope he steps it up in year 2

Kraft cut ab too soon... Should have waited on that to play out

Hope they do well in free agency

Time to move on from Dorsett. Let Harry and Meyers develop another year. Restructure Sanu and hope he improves. Get a new FA X receiver to replace Dorsett and credibly take the top of the field. Draft a new WR as well. Also ok with letting Sanu go.

Get a new FA TE to replace Watson. Anyone that can block well and give us 30 catches a year and 500 yards, nothing crazy. Draft a move TE to help receiving game and make 2 TE sets credible. Keep one of LaCosse or Izzo.

Yes, because the Patriots have won so many SBs with having a X that can take the Top off the field...:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Sanu and harry 84 snaps combines. 3 for 32 yards. Edelman doubled. No shot against the titans. We hardly got the tight end opens. Our wrs where our running backs. White was our leading second receiver after Edelman. We needed either sanu or harry to step and they didn’t .

Regardless of his point, I think it’s fair to say that Dorsett is long gone. He’s had 3 years to step up and never did.

Think Meyers is that bad? He showed some potential. I think he looked like a decent fourth or five receiver, problem was we needed him to play well right now as a rookie.

I think Meyers was not good enough to be a WR4 on a team that had crap WRs. So, yes, I think Meyers is "that bad" that he should be considered nothing more than a camp competitor, at best. You bring in a bunch of guys who are legitimate competitors for an NFL WR job. If you keep Meyers for camp, and he wins the competition, so be it. But locking him in to a spot is crazy, IMO.

That's not accurate. He did step up. For a stretch, he was hugely important to the team. The problem is that, for various reasons, he failed to maintain that level.

And I do think he's gone. It's too bad, because he probably would have flourished in an offense where AB and JE were commanding coverage both low and high.

Yes BB has never let tom hanging like that. From 07-10 he had Moss, who won his matchups in coverage. Edelman is small but he is fast and can shake anyone but he was used to compliment Gronk who was a matchup nightmare for most Defensive coordinators. Marty Bennett kind of took over this role when Gronk went down in 2016. This year we had zero players who consistently won their match ups in coverage, something unheard of in the BB era and its going to have to change for Tom to come back.

No doubt, if they can get a group of Edelman's and Welkers and pass catching TEs they can win without a WR deep threat, but having Moss in 2007 sure did make that offense click and sure was fun to watch.

I would be happy if Harry were a true #3 receiver.

I was expecting more from Harry, he didn't crack 100 yards in any of his games. I don't know if he can be a true number 1 receiver.

Seriously, what makes people think NKeal Harry will "get better"? Guy played 9 games and showed no improvement...kept dropping balls since day 1, can't get separation, etc...

We all thought Hart Lee Dykes was a savior too...membah him?

Absolutely. Dorsett and guys like Hogan are good as long as there are other better pass catchers to coverage away from them. They really are JAGS at the position.

I can't believe I have to make a post about this... (blah)...(blah)...(blah)

You didn't have to make a post about this, or about anything else for that matter. In all honesty I doubt I'm alone in thinking it would actually be preferable if you didn't. Contrary to whatever the little voices in your head are telling you; you do in fact have the right to remain silent, it is the ability to that you seem to lack.

No idea if Harry will ultimately prove to be worth a 1st round pick but giving up on him after half a season is a bit premature. Troy Brown became a full time starter in this 8th season at age 29 and Edelman did not become who he is until year 5. DeVante Parker was considered a bust until this year, his 5th. Maybe Harry will turn out to be Dobson part 2 but he showed enough physical attributes for me to think he has the potential to be an important member of this team moving forward.

I’d like to see us trade for OBJ and just end this WR crap.
"End" the crap? Crap is that miscreant diva's middle name!

Throwing to Cooks seemed to work out pretty well in 2017, too.

I am too lazy to review but with a 50% Edelman this crew has to be bottom quarter of the league. Just saying.

Seems pretty obvious that the Pats need two things to fix the offense, assuming the OL straightens itself out with the return of Andrews, the re-sign of Thuney (I hope), and the return of Cajuste and Froholdt as depth:

1. They need a #1 WR. A legitimate, multi-route #1. Maybe that will be Harry, but not yet at all. Get that - a Green, a Sanders (but younger for both, I hope), an OBJ, a Parker, etc. and the rest of that position will fall into place.

It'll take the heat of JE, who shouldn't be catching 100+ balls, mostly in traffic. anymore. It'll give Harry and/or Meyer/someone else time to find their way, and will allow Sanu, if he's back to get less attention from DBs.

2. Of course, get a &%*#&$^ Tight End. Howard's name keeps getting tossed around. I'm down with that...and still draft one if there's one worth taking a shot with.

Of all the positions on the field, the WR one is the most dependent on having the Alpha/Beta/all-the-little-Zetas to make it go. Which is why, of course, losing AB sent the entire offense into a tailspin. the team had other troubles, sure, but with someone like AB there, many more opportunities would arise for the offense.
