The Athletic: Sources say the Red Sox used video replay room illegally in 2018

well that is a disappointment. Alex Cora should be fired

Reading the details I question how this would have worked. Someone goes to the video replay room, comes back to the dugout, it gets signalled to a baserunner? How would any of that happened quickly enough to impact an at-bat?

I would guess the base runners would already know the signs from the video crew decoding them throughout the game. So once they were on base they already had the sign info and were able to tip the batters off from there.

It sounds like this is minor compared to what the Astros were doing. And other teams including the Yankees were doing the same thing.

i believe it would impact future at bats and baserunners in other innings, not real time like the Astro's trashcan banging

Evidence?

From the article: As far back as 2015, the Yankees used the video replay room to learn other teams’ sign sequences, multiple sources told The Athletic....“I’m just telling you from a broad perspective, living it, it didn’t feel that wrong,” said one player who used the replay-room system with the Yankees as far back as 2015. “It was there for everyone, that’s all.”...By 2017, with rules governing electronic sign stealing still lacking the specificity that would come the next season, the Red Sox, Yankees and Astros were all using their replay rooms to help decode sign sequences in some way, sources said. There are indications other teams did so as well. One National League general manager expressed a feeling that it was fair game.

What baseball team does not cheat? Fire every manager?

Maybe you missed the part where the Red Sox continued to do it after 2017? There’s no evidence the Yankees or any other team did it in 2018 when the league said not to do it

Yankees had steroid issues, which is worse IMO

All of baseball had steroid issues. I don’t see how that’s relevant to this.

also who had steroid issues other than Roger? Pettite used HGH to recover from injury. Considered a PED sure but not steroids.

the 09 team had melky, Cano, and arod

Big Papi failed a drug test. Manny used PEDs too.

I have to admit that, after the way Belichick was vilified for doing nothing as egregious as this, it's great to see Alex Cora on the hot seat now. I doubt that the Globe will be all over this story though.

It's interesting how differently each league treats their own cheating. In the NYFL they go after their greatest player over nothing and their greatest HC over next to nothing. Meanwhile, MLB will ignore it all and let it go away.

Remains to be seen what MLB will do but if they find Cora had any responsibility for what happened in Houston and Boston he could be banned from the game.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Clemens used steroids for sure, so the Yankees 99 and 2000 titles are tainted since he was such a big part. Remember him throwing the bat at Piazza? Roid rage.

A rod also used steroids when he was with the Yankees so the 2009 WS was tainted as well.

okay so every Red Sox title this century is tainted right?
