Penalties being considered for the Pats - UPDATED 1/1/2020

I know it’s not a closet, but how big do you think the press box is? They are their because of him and since you know they are to film you, the scout might want to pay a little attention to the new guys in the press box wits a camera. I thought blinders so big an employee is oblivious to what’s going on around him we’re reserved for government employees. Guess not

what if he asked them if they had permission and they said they did? Don’t forget what happened when the jets were caught filming from the sidelines. They claimed they had permission to do it. They didn’t know who gave them permission. And others denied that anyone gave them permission. But the NFL announced that the Jets had permission to cheat.

Just not more draft picks (now or future) as penalty....

It confounds me how anyone could interpret a video production "violation" as relating to football team operations.
But then, silly me, I couldn't understand why a multi-billion dollar business didn't have anyone who passed middle or high school science on their staff or available to consult.

I swear it better be just a fine. So sick of these a-holes trying to screw us everyway possible.

Just tired of it. The league office’s approach seems to always be “We can’t find any conclusive evidence, but it’s New England so let’s punish them anyway just to be sure”.

Schefter subsequently tweeted this:

Given the wording I doubt he came up with it on his own, his league source must have put it out there. So we’re likely not looking at nuclear here, but still note that all those comparisons were situations where someone in the organization was attempting to gain a competitive advantage, while in this case it wasn’t the intention (and investigators haven’t been able to show otherwise yet). So still an attempt to tarnish the Pats and continue to put out the cheater label.

Leaking the story on the day of their playoff game; ESPN (NFL's btch) says they will be disciplined in lead article but leave out that no connections have been found to football ops. Looks like the exact same crew as 2015 with still a bunch of Jets executives doing everything possible to tarnish the team.

Hope everyone will seriously consider moving on from this corrupt organization after the dynasty ends; I made that decision in 2015. I'll watch Patriots games but not religiously and won't pay for Sunday Ticket again, and no merchandise, etc. The league doesn't deserve Patriots fan for what it's done.

I don't care if I get flamed for this. Since 2015 it's just been enjoyable to watch the vengeance on the 31 and misery caused; it's been hard to really find a ton of joy in the "prestige of winning" considering what the NFL is. But it sure has been fun. Been a fan since late 80s. "Don't @ me."

The league initially leaked that Deflategate would be one precedent to consider, so at least they’ve backed away from that absurdity.

Correct.

The aforementioned "baseline" examples had the underlying intent of gaining a competitive edge.

The NEP did not. This not Spygate.

The Goody is so ****ed up in his logic.

I hope Belichick goes nuclear on Krafty Bob. Kraftys stupid ad revenue generating video series could cost the team draft pick...

Just a joke , even from across the pond this just looks like another attempt to please the haters

Deflategate definitely killed my NFL enthusiasm. I rarely watch a non Patriots game nowadays.

Yeah that was my thought too. I was expecting this to be released today to be honest.

The league should have wrapped everything up on January 1st, when nothing was going on in the NFL and college football was the focus. Instead, the story about there being no connection between Kraft Sports and the Patriots football operations came out. Today, when the NFL playoffs start, we get a teaser story, with the claim that the penalty will be announced the day of the conference championship games.

According to Schefter's report, not all security reports are back to the NFL. How is that possible? How many could there be and how could it take two more weeks to finish? The security people have to have an idea if they found something or not. If it's nothing, then the report if done, finalized or not. If there is some dirt, why wasn't it reported earlier?

I’d put money on a pick. It’s not fairness, it’s RG & the 32.

I think a lost draft pick is a mortal lock. The question is how high will the pick be. Hopefully not a first or second day pick, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were.

I would be surprised, however, if we lost multiple picks. The absence of any "repeat offender" language in Schefter's report offers some comfort in that regard.

All teams have some kind of local behind-the-scenes type thing for fans.

$350,000-$500,000 fine and 5th round pick is my unfortunate guess.

What exactly are you not following?

There’s zero need to film in an opposing team’s stadium when you’re not the opponent, especially when you’re the most scrutinized team in the league, who already got in trouble once before for a similar scenario.

To do that and not even clear this with Cincinnati is even more idiotic.

Again, the optics on this are dumb, no matter what excuses you try to bring to defend the team’s video department.
Other than, you know, when it's a documentary crew making a documentary and has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FOOTBALL TEAM.

BB isn't part of any Union, so depending on the language of his contract, any penalty imposed on him personally could be taken to court where discovery could be used to see if there is any kind of bias conspiracy. It's probably why no such penalties were given to BB during Deflategate.
