Tom Brady: an honest take

Russell, Ortiz, Orr, and Brady. I choose Ortiz over Williams because of the three rings. The team doesn't win a ring without him.

Big Papi was awesome. Choosing him over Ted Williams is nuts. Guy had a .340 lifetime average and double the lifetime WAR. Not winning any rings was an indictment of the rest of the team.

I know. But it's ending the 86 year curse thing. The history. Him being the force behind the greatest comeback in sports history (Maybe after 28-3). And that comeback being against the Yankees.

Papi is a great story, but I don’t think this makes him worthy of a spot.

I’d actually have both NBA players, Orr, and Brady. Both Russell and Bird deserve spots over either Williams/Ortiz.

He always denies injury
He does, and obviously he’s hurt on some level like in most years at end of season, but his injury wasn’t limiting him in practice like it was a couple of weeks ago, so maybe he’s not totally BS’ing as much as some people think. He looked pretty good last week against the Bills.

Brady was robbed of showing what he could do this season. When Peyton flamed out in his final year in denver we were sure he was done because he had weapons at every level of the offense and still looked like a JAG. Somewhere in a parallel reality Brady leads this years pats to a 14-2 record throwing to AB, gordon, demariyus thomas, and edelman...
...and AJ Brown/Deebo Samuel/Terry McLaurin...and Dawson Knox...and George Kittle...

...As to anyone complaining that the Pats did not address offensive needs.... They DID. They signed Thomas, kept/added Gordon again, used a first-round pick on Harry, and even added Brown. And then they got Sanu who has been a solid WR for his whole career. For various reasons (injuries, relapses, utter idiocy), these moves didn't work out...
Yeah except for the whole TE thingy...

Bill screwed this team this season. Not TB. IMO
The lack of talent (because of injuries as well) is just despicable.
I saw a lot of players just plain out giving up on plays.

So many penalties too...

Brady is hurt just like Jules.
Where is the criticism of him?
He gets a pass? (Not that I am blaming him.)

Injuries suck.
Is Gilmore done? He had a horrible game.

Just some perspective. .
Jules had 100 catches and single handily won some games for us, some of the writers have said it looked like he a growth coming out of his shoulder.

This Guerrero crap isn't working with his elbow...

I seriously wonder if this is an issue. The homeopathic, holistic approach to his elbow treatment does not use a brace or any type of painkiller; at least that’s what my understanding is from someone who posted this and seemed credible (they referenced tennis elbow treatment and the TB12 method). I hope he says fk it and stabilizes the elbow. Now that he’s playing in an elimination game, is it time to try something else? Every ball last game seemed to be too high, even the completions. The receivers/blocking/trust seems to have made great strides in December. The decision making is there. The zip is there. The ball is high.

He always denies injury

If it is true that he has NO injuries and he feels good; subpar play this year is due to #1, #2 or most likely both:

1) Age related decline in skills (like Peyton Manning in his last year) supported by continuous and dramatic fall in QBR over past 4 years
2) Injuries, retirements and failure to acquire adequate replacements have had amplifying impact on his expected age related decline.

Whether it is 1, 2 or both it is highly unlikely that these will be solved next season on patriots team (e.g. Gronkowski is not walking through their locker room door as a player).

If he wants to keep playing and wants to be on a team that can make a deep run into playoffs, given his age he would need to go to a team with lots of talent on offensive side of ball.

Fix the O-line and get some WRs.

Not very hard to do.

I did not say that Brady was great, but he was not the only issue yesterday. From the INT to the missed opportunity before the half and the defenses poor play the entire second half there is a lot of blame to go around. My point was that in spite all of that, it was Brady that ultimately gave us a chance to win by getting us the lead and yet most people are blaming him for the loss !
Most people aren't blaming him alone for the loss...but after the main culprits - Bill, Skippy, Gilmore, Jonny Jones, Mo' Sanooze, another stupid penalty by (notso) Wise, another OPI by Watson...then Brady has to be next...

He's definitely injured. I wonder if that affects the decision to bring him back or not. In otherwords, maybe the organization could point to the elbow as the reason for the decline. Not just age. If that makes sense.

If he was healthy this offense would already be good enough. Don't need to sneak in any digs at the OL and WR here. A healthy QB would be enough.
No it wouldn't.

I know that Ortiz has 3 rings, and I also know that Williams was never a Gold Glove candidate, but I'm still not placing a Designated Hitter - especially one suspected of Using earlier in his career - ahead of the Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived...

They are forgetting about Russell. Maybe they don't know who he is?

Orr, Russell, Brady and Bird

greatest of the great with lasting iconic impact on sport.

Ortiz is just a notch below. Pedro did not play here long enough, Clemens steroid using arrogant cheater who stabbed sox in back by moving to arch rivals.

Ted williams is on there if there is a fifth...but never won a championship; however he has eternal admiration for taking time off in the prime of his career to fly fighter planes in Korea. Other than the safety from Arizona, do not see that kind of devoted patriotism in today's athletes,

Bird should've had Two more rings (1985 & '87) if the team weren't mal-coached by KC Jones and suddenly left bereft of young depth by Red & Jan Volk.

clemens didn’t stab anyone in the back, he got traded

No, he didn't. He finished out his contract and became a free agent and signed with Toronto. Probably thanks to GM Dan Duquette's crack that Clemens was in the 'twilight of his career'. His third-to-last game with the Sox he struck out 20 batters. For the second time.
