Gronk selected to NFL 100 All-Time Team, Belichick talks about Gronk's bad pre-draft visit

BB is the co-host of the entire series.

Gronk had something better to do I guess.
It's very strange and I'm obviously reaching with very little information but it's telling if he wasn't on vacation but chose not to go. There's no way they didn't invite him. I'm not sure exactly when this was recorded and if he had retired yet.

Everyone is waiting to see if they will bring TB12 in next to BB or not. I'm not sure I've ever heard BB give him a compliment.

It was great to see John Hannah and Leon Gray play especially in person and how they dominated on O-Line. Congrats Gronk and Hannah, RIP Leon.

Was before my time but I’ve read up on Gray. Insanely foolish of the management at the time to cut bait with him.

They were an awesome tandem.
Another that comes to mind back then was Raiders Art Shell & Gene Upshaw.
Both were compared to each other but of course Hannah & Gray Best for me.

Yeah Belichick and Gronk, two guys who clearly don't like or respect each other

Besides the usual generic works hard stuff he says about all his players.

Yeah thats not true. He has praised him in non effusive ways often enough. Not sure whats your agenda is.

No agenda lol. I love me some TB12 and BB.

They bring in non-Patriots because hearing Belichick talk to their faces about how great Brady and Gronk were is expected and not very interesting TV. Hence why the Gronk segment was a funny anecdote rather than effusive praise a la Ed Reed. More interesting for everyone to hear Belichick effuse about players on other teams than about guys he drafted and employed for 10+ years, about whom he obviously and unsurprisingly has great affection and respect.

Sometimes I wonder if Patriots fans realize the NFL isn't just about entertaining Patriots fans.

Its obvious.

Ridiculous reply. Nowhere did I say or imply lack of respect and everyone loves each other after a game like that.

Stop prevaricating and come out with it.

I'll do it for you.

You believe Gronk doesn't want to be near BB

You believe BB and TB12 don't like each other and don't want to be in the same room.

No, not at all. I don't like speculating since I just read articles like you guys, but since that's what we do here I think they all like each other fine. What I was saying is if this was recorded around the time Gronk retired I can see maybe he didn't want to go. It seems weird the way it all went down. Like Gronk wanted to wait a bit longer to decide and BB said decide now and Gronk said fine FU then. That's obviously just an opinion.

I'll say this. I do think BB was going to ask Gronk to take a pay cut/traded/released. He was physically/mentally worn down and not the same player in 2018 and BB knew it. His production demonstrated this.

BB is a master at compartmentalizing business, personnel evaluation and human emotions but it is possible Gronk can not and chose not to be in studio.

It could also be as simple as they preferred TGon over him just as they chose Munoz over Hog, Ogden or Walter Jones in studio.

I highly doubt Tom was in studio. I bet Manning/Montana and maybe another one.

For sure Manning was there Bill loves him some Payton. Would be cool if Montana is there also and I agree with your post. That's what I meant in terms of Gronk - the way it went down didn't feel like Gronk was really pleased with it and I have to think you are right about the restructure. At some point the way NE does contracts has to affect these guys. Amendola is a great example of this. We wish we had that guy right now. In bill we trust though we can't have it both ways.

You can understand the confusion though. The Pats dominate the headlines, even during the offseason, even for no good reason at all.

How does NE draw up contracts? Because they don't over pay and pay players based on...

Role
Production
Value
Age
Market Demand
Cap space consumed based on above factors

There isn't a single player on the roster that has not agreed to their contract.

Of course they 'signed it' and I'm not unhappy with how they do contracts.

Interesting, every time I heard this, Gronk always sounded like he was trying to make himself sound happy. Especially that laugh. I think it was after reading how much pain he was in and stuff after the SB, it just felt like to me he maybe didn't feel as good as he would've expected.

But obviously, that's me just reading into it. Not disputing your point, either.
