They lost Cam (impact somewhat debatable) got stellar play out of a rookie for a month, then he started playing like a rookie.
I am not sure what he could have done there, especially playing one of the best divisions in football and a fairly competent AFC division in the NFC West and AFC South along with the Packers.
Not saying a coaching change in the offseason wouldn't make sense, just firing him in December doesn't.

If Riveria is not the future, why wait for black monday where you're competing with the pack of franchises in the HC hunt.
Damn straight. Let the tampering begin!
Interviewing OUT OF WORK HCs. Like Rex Ryan or Jeff Fisher.
Or, College coaches. Get it?

Uh huh, yeah right OFC
you can do that while the lame duck coach finishes out the season.
Rumors dont cut it.
There is no question that the job is open now.
So, the new HC would interview while the present HC is still on the job. That's exactly what would happen to the new guy if he doesn't pan out. Bush league operationits not a rumor if the owner calls a candidate and says the Riverboat is being docked at the end of the season... just sayin'
Don't rightly matter... Mr Tepper can do whatever he wants with his shiny new toy
Watch the Steelers, Eagles, Giants and other highly respected franchises the way they conduct coaching vacancies.
yeah, they usually all wait til the end of the season to fire a coach.
Just because you still have a head coach does not mean you cannot start the process of vetting potential hires before he's gone. You really think that you are going to get a jump on other teams who have identified that they need a new coach? Even though the Giants are keeping Pat Shurmur for the blalance of 2019, you think the front office / Gettleman is just idle, waiting until he's gone to start the process?
Come on man
Coaches interview for jobs they might or know they won't get all the time. What serious candidate is going to interview for a job not available that he may not get?
Professional teams conduct business professionally. Thats why a good HC wants to go work at those franchises because he would receive the same fair treatment if things didnt pan out. Panthers fired Rivera so he gets all his contract money. Panthers owe him nothing else.
Furthermore, you fire now and gauge interest in available coaches and ask them to think about a staff instead of waiting until there are 3 or 4 jobs open that will drain all the best talent looking for a new opportunity.

It's not just an interview. The team/GM/FO etc could have you answer 100 questions, break down film of opposing/would be new players or others things you might not be 100% prepared for w/out going through the process. Everyone doesn't have people skills or can light up a room.
It's something you can get better at. Again it's one of those things you have go through, experience it, to really appreciate what's happening.
