How Can the Pats Stop the Ravens?

How can the pats stop _____ . ? annual question over the last 19 yrs. When was the last time a team supposed to beat up the pats on paper in the playoffs actually did it. ?

The ravens are legit. I can't even take anyone seriously that tries to say otherwise. They will be a problem if we face them in the playoffs. I hope we don't. That's all I have to say on that for now.
I dont think we will be an easy out for them either.

Well unlike us KC can score in 59 seconds with their Speed on O. So hope KC plays them in one of those rounds. So KC might be a bad bad match-up for the Ravens. One Team that like to hold the Ball and another who can score Fast Hmmmmm.
Unfortunately KC can be run on easily, especially on the road.

14 pages of speculation based on a game that may or may not take place 8 weeks from now...yikes.

The Ravens are legit. You have to give credit where it's due. They are playing very well right now, and that includes hanging 37 up on NE's defense.

But I cannot overstate how much the praise of Lamar Jackson right now is virtually identical to what the exact same people were saying about Patrick Mahomes at the same time last year. "He is so great because he can run AND pass!! How do you stop this offense??"

The Chiefs scored 30 (or more) 12 times last year, they scored 40 5 times, and even had a 51-spot. They had a higher average than the Ravens have - albeit only by fractions of a point. And let me tell you... dominating on offense in November is one thing. Bringing it into December/January is quite another.

Welcome to the annual "how can we browns win a game vs any team" debate . Let's forget the fact that we are so privileged to have a team that we talk seeding and playoffs before thanksgiving.

I don't dislike any players on the Ravens. That is not good. I hope someone on the team does something to garner my hatred quickly.

The misery on this board is just depressing. I don't think Mangini was claiming that focusing on hitting Jackson is a replacement for a defensive scheme. It's one piece of a puzzle, like roughing up Marshall Faulk every chance you get. I think you just want to twist it so you feel superior to the idiot strawman you've constructed.
That’s no straw man. There have been multiple posters in this thread that have started their analysis with “hit him.” That’s ridiculously simplistic and is not as easy as it looks. Those people deserve to be mocked.

Lets see how they do against 49ers this week. I'm interested in SF's game plan and this is actually a good measuring stick for both teams.

Your welcome. I tend not to worry about things that may or may not occur in 2 months. You should try it. Or you could start worrying about how the Pats are going to beat San Fran next regular season, its about as useful.

There's no one else in the AFC besides us and Baltimore worth talking about...I'd be shocked if KC makes it to the AFCCG. Unless there is a major injury, it will be Pat's vs Ravens in the AFCCG, the only question is where it will take place

Niners will lay the blue print this Sunday me thinks. They are strong at DL. To quote one poster from the Niners forum...

"Don't let that game last night influence your thinking about how to stop the Baltimore running game. The Ravens were able to attack the edges of Wade Phillips' 3-4 defense because the edge players the Rams employ are pass rushers who are weak against the run game. Dante Fowler and Clay Matthews wouldn't suit up on game day for the 49ers. They are that bad. Greg Roman knew that and just pounded away at them. Samson Ebukam was their only ED with good run defense ability and he got pounded with lead blockers all night because no one else demanded attention. They double-teamed Donald and won most of the other one-on-one battles. Easy pickings.

Try that same edge running attack on AA and Bosa and get ready to have your butt handed to you. Even if they did get past the DL on occasion, the speed of the 49er LBs will catch them.

Going up the middle is no picnic either. They can double Buckner but Jones has been beasting. If center Matt Skura can't go, that makes inside running much tougher.

We don't have to load the box. Spy Jackson with Warner or Greenlaw and the game will look VERY different than the Rams game.

This game will provide a good example of why Lynch insisted on loading up with high-end DL - it makes everything else much easier."

But from a NE perspective, we are build from the secondary-in so what the Niners will employ, Belichick will probably need to cook up a variation of that philosophy with our personnel.

You're definitely superior to me and everyone in this thread that is foolish enough to discuss football on a football forum. Thanks for reminding us of that.

....3) I think the Ravens have built their entire team around LJ's unique skill set. To make the decision to do that takes vision and imagination....

The Ravens have very competent management and coaches and truly went all-in, unlike the Redskins. I would think the difference in execution is obvious. Just a basic example — that same draft, the Redskins spent a 4th round pick drafting the polar opposite of RGIII as a backup QB, someone who could not play in that type of system. On the other hand, the Ravens signed RGIII himself as a backup this off-season.

You know for calling yourself the adult in the room you’re not really acting like it!

I am certain that teams are diligently looking at film and can scheme against the Ravens offense.
The question is who has the man power to take on their lineman?

I think the best potential answer to their line is coming up this weekend.

Its most definitely not as simple as just "hit the QB," as has been beaten to death in this thread, but it definitely starts up front, and the niners have one hell of a line.
