Naturally, Moss downplayed any pat on the back Jackson gave him earlier about helping him along and nurturing him, even though he’s a superstar.

“That’s no credit to me,” Moss said of taking the Pats’ 2006 second-round pick under his wing. “I just want to make sure whatever I know, whatever I had to learn, I’m just making sure he still knows it. That’s all it was.”

For you NE fans, reading that article probably gives you more faith in Moss returning...just by reading his quotes, you can tell this guy has found some sort of football nirvana and probably thanks god every morning he wakes up.

He's a locker room cancer! that good kind of cancer

Jackson, who played in just 12 games last season, catching 13 passes, indicated Randy Moss had been a special help to him during the past few months.

“Randy has helped me out a lot. All the other receivers help me out a lot. But Randy, I’m kind of playing behind him right now and he’s teaching me a lot with the plays, technique,” Jackson said. “He’s been in the league for a long time, and he’s been teaching me a lot.”
.
.
Moss said when asked about his relationship with Jackson yesterday. “I think it’s just more when you get older, when you see the potentional of a younger guy who can really go out there and be a good player and help contribute to the team, and that’s what I see, you want to help.”

Randy Moss mentor.,.who woulda thunk it, lol

Shhhhh....don't tell the 'national' media about all this because this will show a different (and true I might add) side of Moss that they have ignored for most part.

where are all the posters who said randy moss did not have the personality to make this team? Those who said they did not want Randy Moss on this team

Although towards the end the local media in Minnesota turned on him a little, its always been the national media thats bashed Moss, its been the guys who dont cover him, the columnists who just see his incidents that make the news and use those clippings to break down his character. Unfortunately, these national media outlets reach the most people so they've turned the majority of the country into believers of the "Randy Moss is a good for nothing cancer" school of thought. Also, because Moss rarely speaks to media, going back to his Minnesota days, a lot of stuff thats said about him goes undefended and is therefore assumed to be true.

I'll have three glasses of kool-aid please...one breakfast, lunch, and dinner! WOO!

"“The atmosphere around here is good,” he said. “Some teams or organizations go out there and practice, and lollygag and go through the motions. Here, we take care of business inside the classroom and outside of it. And then go out there and execute and make things happen on Sunday. So, everything that comes with football is why I love coming to work, from the food, all the way to sitting around here with the camaraderie in the locker room."

....."from the food......"

Interestingly enough, this brought back the memories of Corey Dillon's magazine interview in the middle of his first season with the Pats. IIRC, he gushed about the fact that Kraft supplies the best food in the NFL to the team - - 3 meals per day - - as if it was at a different level than anything he's ever heard of with any other team. At one point in the interview he actually gushed something like "Man, they even have Alaskan crab legs here!!".

It may seem silly, but this may be a microcosm (obviously, they don't just come for the food!) of why FA's are willing to accept less to come here. The Patriots organization expects selflessness and hard work every single minute, but they also treat their players a bit differently also, it seems.

Well, most, if not all, of them have already posted about how wrong they were and how glad they are that they were wrong.

Count me as one of those who were wrong. I honestly was not enthusiastic about Moss coming here. He has been a pleasant surprise.

I was highly skeptical of Moss before his signing on here.

I was pretty much okay with it after because BB/SP's mistakes are far fewer than their successes (I know I followed the Pats for 40 years without watching them have the success they've had the last six) and I tend to look at players in a new light. But mostlly, the structure of the contract was reassuring. The only thing that bothered me about Moss (though it bothered me a lot) was his taking plays off. I figured if he did that in camp, BB could simply cut him.

So to me it was a no-risk scenario. He runs out routes, he stays. He takes plays off, he goes.

I was never concerned about his ability, but I didn't thing he would be so GOOD. It's been a long time (Terry Glenn) since we had a receiver who could catch balls that were not thrown especially well and just take balls away from a perfectly positioned defended. I am wowed again and again.

But it is his locker room attitude that surprised me.

I hope we sign him to a long term deal.

I think it absolutely has to do with the teams attraction. From the opportunity to work with a HOF coach and QB to first class workout facilities and stadium to the catering to the better-than-good shot at a championship along with those over the top rings....all those things have value and I'm sure that the Pats use that as incentive above and beyond a players salary in a way that still adds value to a contract while not impacting the salary cap itself. Mr Kraft is a very shrewd businessman, no doubt about it.

My position went immediately to 100% positive on the Moss deal once BB and Pioli made it.

It's like Warren Buffett making a contrarian pick of an out-of-favor stock, buying a company with flaws on the cheap.

You know these pros have done their due diligence, weighed the upside/downside, and are making a high value decision regardless of how it comes out.

The actual results on the field so far have clearly far outweighed the costs.

But like any smart dealmaker, they allow a substantial margin for error so it is still a win if everything doesn't go perfectly.

E.g. If Moss had half his production on the field so far, it would still have been a positive NPV transaction for the PATs.

I expect that after this season, Polian will have yet another "point of emphasis" passed regarding the quality of meals teams are allowed to serve at their facilities.

Kind of sounds like he's enjoying taking on the role of mentor much like Cris Carter did with Moss early in his career. That'd be great for Chad!

You don't think Moss might be hangin out too much with Wilfork, do ya?

Me too. I am really happy we have him now.
I for one was neutral (really!) as in "Well OK, Corey worked out just fine, so let's give Randy a chance" neutral.

Those of you who were against the Moss trade have nothing to be ashamed about...the negative PR machine did its job with Moss, only Vikings fans like myself were aware that Moss being a TO type cancer was 10% fact based and 90% sensationalised. Even a lot of Viking fans were duped and only now realize it.

I always thought Moss was fine. I never listen to the medai anyway, and non of his past teammates (minus Culpeper) ever said anything bad about him.

The day I found out we were interested in him and BB liked him, I "prayed" we would get him. I didn't think it was likely, so when he actually signed, I was beyond ecstatic. I still can't get over the fact that we have Randy Moss. Every time I look at my Moss desktop wallpaper I'm like "We Have Randy ******* Moss!!! WE HAVE RANDY MOSS!!! AHHH!!!! YEAAA!!!"

If there was one thing I was waiting for, it was for Brady to get a reciever like Moss, the best in the game.
