Bleacher Report’s story on the Kaepernick try-out this weekend lists the Patriots as one of eleven teams committed to attend. Is this serious interest in signing him, or just more attention to detail and exercising due diligence in keeping their player database updated?
Colin Kaepernick, NFL Teams Stunned by League's Sudden Pro Day Plan

Just an update to their player database, IMO.

And I think they decided to send a rep just to kill off any media story lines about them NOT sending anyone. I mean, they probably have a regional college scout down there already...and just sent that guy...and flew in a pro personnel scout as well...

Until I get reliable information to the contrary, I'm going with due diligence.

I don't really see the point in bringing someone like Kaep in because our offensive infrastructure would not really work much to emphasise his strengths.

If memory serves right he is somewhere around LJ in terms of passing accuracy or maybe even worse. So there is zero carry-over between the Brady and the Kaepernick offense. This lack of synergy just makes the entire idea a dud to me.

He can be a good backup at a place that has a similar QB1 and system in place where he can play to his strengths.

The real question to me is why would Greg Roman not advocate for Kaep to be the backup in Baltimore and rather accept RG3 instead. Kaep had his best moments under Roman.

I agree 100% that sending someone is the far easier move here from a public eye perspective.

Here I was just thinking, 'Hey, with mosslost playing tiddlywinks somewhere with Andy it's a little quiet around here. Maybe we need another AB or Kaep thread.' Maybe AB will show up at the workout, how cool would that be? But I digress...

To the OP's question I don't think it's surprising that if the league is putting on a show Krafty Bob's gonna at least send a dog and/or pony to help it along. What's surprising, considering the way the denizens of 345 Park Ave have been known to carry a grudge, is there are teams that aren't sending anyone.

I’m good. Thanks.

Please make it stop.

From a purely football perspective, it's not a bad backup option if Brady gets hurt. Not comfortable at all with Stidham right now. But the backlash over signing Kap would be too much...

I think that's exactly the league's intention. By having Hue Jackson run the thing they've virtually guaranteed it will result in no win and vast indifference

I’m not sure it’s a good option, as Luuked pointed out there’s too much dissimilarity to our existing offense. OTOH question is whether there’s a better option. Stid needs more development. And it might be interesting to see what BB could do with a QB like Kaep.

Better chance of AB returning . . .

Edit: He could play the part of Lamar Jackson in practice.

What information do you base this assertion on?

His numbers, albeit from 2016, are not half bad. I mean I'd rather have him than Stidham if Brady is out for a few games. I'm confident McD can develop a good game plan for him.

Hue Jackson is running the workout. This is a hatchet job by the NFL.

Fah....K him.

That thankless *****sucker deserves to remain unemployed for the rest of his 'career'.

Multiple seasons inactive, no thanks. Wouldn’t trust him anymore than Stidham
