Cam Newton to IR

This should end his career in CAR. It will cost CAR $2M of dead money to cut Cam, and less than a million to sign his ERFA replacement (Kyle Allan has no choice), I would expect CAR to sign a 3-5 year deal with Allan.

CAR could trade Cam after the season. He is signed for one year for $20M.

Are you suggesting that the #1 overall pick is going to be cut, rather than traded in the offseason? For what purpose? Surely, someone would give up a draft pick to have them as a backup or spot starter (while their new draft pick gets acclimated).

Welcome NY Jets 2020 starting QB Cam Newton!!

I added that Cam could be traded. His salary plus bonus is $20M.

I’m not sure that I’d compare arguably the biggest bust in NFL history to someone who was rookie of the year, league MVP, and brought their team to the SB. He’s gone to the pro bowl three times.

Cam may have fallen off a bit but he should still command some type of attention for a trade scenario. People talk about trading for guys like Marcus Mariota.

I like this scrappy kid. I put this here because I hope he somehow gets released...eventually...and we sign him.

“I know I don’t look like I belong,” Renfrow said, via NBCSportsBayArea.com. “If I was in someone else’s shoes, I might make fun of me, too, with the hairline and the way I look. I think it’s funny, but you have to go out there and make plays. Between the lines, it doesn’t matter how you look. It’s about how you play.”

A healthy Cam in Buffalo or Chicago would be interesting.

Still think Minshew is the long-term guy in Jax. But also think it makes sense to give Foles his fair shot at this point to see what he’s got. London games are hard to judge sometimes but Minshew was just bad last week. Sit him down, let Foles feast or fold, hope that how he plays makes your decision obvious? It’s a good problem to have for a middling team...better to be the Jags or Panthers with 2 guys you think can be competent QBs instead of the Bears with none.

Cam in Chicago is a nice theory but they have cap problems as is, but it’s a total Bears move to bet the house and bring him in post-prime and go 8-8 for 3 years. In the perfect situation he might have one real good year left in him (like Cunningham ‘98) but he hasn’t been “elite” since he peaked in 2015 and he’s probably toast.
