So you think Harry couldn't have done at least as well as Watson did at blocking?
I know for a fact Harry couldn't have done at least as well as Watson at blocking. Harry is a rookie WR. Watson is a veteran TE.

Perhaps you think that there are routes that Watson ran that Harry couldn't?
Absolutely. Watson is a TE who knows the Patriots offense from his position. Harry isn't trained as a TE and doesn't know the offense yet from his own position at WR.

Look, if Harry could've done ANYTHING better than ANYONE on the field tonight, HE WOULD HAVE DRESSED AND PLAYED.

Just because he has the label of WR doesn't mean he can't fulfill other roles. In case you haven't noticed, this team does that every now and then. We have a "running back" who every now and then lines up as a WR - he did so tonight with some success.
Those are very limited sub packages, they don't mean the positions are universally interchangeable.

This is what you wrote

"he would be on the bench because he would look bad in our offense, that's being ran because brady is the starter
4 - he would get f*cked by our offensive line lol. which sucks to say lol."

Its not true & makes little sense considering Jackson ran the EP in college.

Have any opinion you want. Saying he'd look bad in our offense is ridiculous if you watched him or knew what type of system he ran. Its not my or anyone's opinion, he ran the EP.
There’s no “the EP”. EP is a terse way of calling plays and concepts. It says nothing about what those plays and concepts ARE. Did Jackson’s college really use a complicated option route offense where all the receivers have at least two options and they have to make the same read the QB does and the QB has to make the same read they do, like the NE offense does?

I'd love to sit here and say if Edelman doesn't fumble etc etc ....well, Pats got 2 gifts from Baltimore so goes both ways
People will talk about how the pats can’t stop running teams. 200 plus yards on the ground is pathetic. They basically whipped you in the trenches.
Don't forget 159 to Cleveland (who btw only managed 90 vs that might Denver defense today)

This is indeed the issue. If Jackson can stay healthy, BALT is very strong team. Jackson is more than a running quaterback. He plays in a college pistol offense, with players acquired just for this offense. They played with 3 TE's, with the #3 being their best weapon own offense tonight.

Makes me wonder if Jackson will last the season the way he runs... The next toughest running qb is Watson... They'll adjust and if we meet again will have a better game plan

Now only one game up on buffalo

My takeaways:

Not the end of the world, proud of the mental toughness the team showed. Adversity is good for the team as a whole, especially the defense. Still in the #1 seed and the Ravens have a difficult schedule in front of them. Never fun to lose, especially to this team, and all the more so when they're (record wise) our toughest competition for the top seed. Still, it happens. Move on.

I have a hunch BB kept some cards up his sleeve defending Jackson in order to not put everything on film should these teams meet again down the road. Baltimore played this like their Super Bowl and threw everything they had at us. They can't show us anything in the future that we didn't see tonight. Pats, on the other hand, probably saved some stuff for down the line.

My only two irreconcilable concerns are:

a.) seeding. I hope this loss doesn't result in us playing in Baltimore in the postseason. Still control our own destiny, so not a huge concern.

b.) how we can stop the interior run. Everything else Baltimore does offensively I expect BB will have a counter for. But the interior run and what it opened up is concerning. As I saw it, we started in nickel, got gashed, and then brought in an additional LB which calmed the run, but made us vulnerable to flats and crossers. We need to stop the run from the nickel or else we're in trouble. How that's to be done, I'm not sure. We need Shelton and Guy to play really well, and potentially have Cowart contribute.

Moving onto the bye and Philly. Lots of good football ahead. This is a good football team.

Lost in this disappointing game: no injuries (biggest plus), Sanu appears to be a perfect fit for Brady, and Folk looked good on his field goals/extra points. Other than that, Bill's cliche applies: didn't make enough plays, were outcoached and outplayed in all three phases of the game. It happens.

Regarding Newhouse, though, I cannot imagine there's no one on the street, like a UDFA who didn't make the roster that can't do at least as well as him. He literally looks like he does not belong in the NFL in any capacity; he is so overmatched you can't even get mad at him. He's trying but he just absolutely sucks. I don't recall a Patriots starter ever being this bad, where literally on almost every play he is so obviously unfit for his job and completely lacks the ability to even be serviceable.

familiarity with an offense on a college level doesn't immediately translate to success in the NFL with said offense.

It's worth noting that Baltimore had two weeks to prepare for the Patriots.
Harbaugh has been preparing to play the patriots for months.

If the secondary is as good as everyone thinks there should've been more than 6 incompletions vs Lamar Jackson...

yes, we could have drafted Lamar...and yes we DID draft JimmyG...water under the bridge. General Patton would say "keep moving forward!"...no sense going over old ground.

Hate to be belittling of posters -- everyone should post what they want if Patriots related -- but this Monday morning QBing for drafting is foolish to the nth degree. Hey, if I can travel back two years in time I'll be the greatest draft guru in the history of football.
Give LJ credit for making the most of his chances. That's what the NFL is about for newer players, make the most of your chances when called upon. Actually credit Harbaugh/Ravens too for putting him in positions to succeed versus asking him to do what he isn't necessarily good at. But LJ hasn't done anything yet except played half of this season, won some games and beat at home a top Patriots team, but one that arguably has been VERY middling on offense for a month, and had been showing some concern in the Run D game. So how that morphs into "we should have drafted him!" is friggin infantile.
The Patriots have great tape to look at the WTF they did last night. Two weeks to work on correcting it. Then in 7 months they can then draft the next LJ (or fill in name of this weeks "qwe should have drafted"). And if we face the Ravens in the playoffs, I look forward to it (and suspect there will be much less "why didn't we draft him" at the end of the game).

You're right, and I do feel bad (like you) because I'm sure he's trying and wants to do well. I usually hate beating up on a guy, but if everything breaks down every other play because of pressure coming from the left side, things just don't work like they should.

Just one question, how did the Browns beat the Ravens and we couldn't ?

Brandon Williams was out that game. And the Browns have Chubb hitting home runs Michel would never be able to do.

I strongly disagree.

Harbaugh has discussed this a lot. Drafting and expecting to win win Jackson at quarterback meant that the entire offense and offensive personnel had to be changed to fit Jackson.

Jackson wouldn't have been much to showcase for a couple plays a game, while we sat Brady.

.
Anyway we could have showcased Lamar & got picks. Sit, teach & groom.

Exactly. Furthermore, within the context of my original post, we're looking at the version of EP that NEP runs, and implementing Jackson within that, which is predicated on Brady's strengths in diagnosing coverage, going through reads, and making passes all over the field. If we had Jackson, we'd have to retool our packages to play to his strengths.

And there's a reason I say address the O-Line point - with our current roster, it'd be a tall task implementing the packages necessary for Jackson to find success. We just are lacking to make a team that buys time on the o-line while also making great blocks for the RB, making defenses respect both the RB and QB as running options.

If the defense gave our offense the ball back at 24-20 i have no doubts we win the game.

Patriots haters are joyful tonight. This team needs to respond in two weeks especially on both sides of the ball.

Lol. The secondary basically had the night off. There weren’t many passes to depend when they didn’t need to throw.

Some truth to that though the passes were mostly short passes (CBs and even sometimes safeties not involved). These will be high percentage in general. The question is why were receivers on third and 4 so open 4 yards down the field so often? I was astonished at how easy 3rd down conversions via pass were being completed. Patriots have been VERY good all over the field at contesting even passes that were completed. Last night converting third down with a short/mid-ish pass was astonishingly easy.
I look forward to BB and staff looking at the tape and asking how that could happen with that much frequency that easily. You don't even need to stop every to force a punt, you just need to stop it every few times. But the frequency last night of the conversion seemed absurdly high.

Well they certainly didn’t respect our defense. The two longest drives of the night belonged to them and they where big in the game. One was for 8:09 and the other 9:35. I hope this defense is angry and takes it out on philly.
