Should the Pats have drafted DK Metcalf instead of N'Keal Harry?

1. Anyone that grades rookies based on 1/2 of their 1st season has no clue what they are talking about.
2. Anyone that calls a 1-3round draft pick a bust after 1/2 of their 1st season, ditto.

FYI DA has never been traded in his career

Thanks for that. I could have sworn we gave up like a 3rd round pick for him. To get him for just money was a great move in hindsight.

Now I remember after Welker turned down the Pats contract, they signed Amendola right away. Amendola was a big play guy in the playoffs. So no regrets moving on from Welker. Wes put up big numbers in the regular season but came up small in the postseason.

I always thought it funny how some people have such certitude about something so uncertain as the NFL draft or stock picking.

Uncertainties in life occur and nothing is ever written in stone. Who here would have picked Tom Brady #1 in 2000?

.
it always amazes me how arm chair GMs can say with certainty that the pats should have chosen one player over another and say that player would be better than the one BB took. Case in point chubb over michel. Some have stated that chubb would have run wild last year, he would been much better than michel. No one can honestly say that, you just can't predict that, they have different running styles. Michel ran for appx 70 yards less than chubb in the regular season and set a rookie record in the playoffs by rushing for 262 yards and 5 tds in two games, you can't ask for more than that.

It's not reasonable to question whether we could have/should have drafted player A instead of player B? I don't recall anyone being called a bust in this thread.

For example Metcalf might be > Harry and Chub might be > Michel. Just means they were the better choices. But I haven't heard the word 'bust' applied yet.

Despite the depleted WR corps. I just do not see Metcalf getting the number of targets he gets in Seattle in New England. Old Brady tends not to throw to younger receivers.

I’m still amazed at people who have followed this team for the last twenty years and still think it’s just about collecting physical talent.

There is a method to Belichick’s madness and a reason for everything he does.

He saw something in Sony and whatever it was it directly contributed to another SB win.

Yeah that’s BS. Did BB see something in Cunningham instead of Dunlap ?

Read the book war room. Bb has plenty of misses as a draft evaluator. He makes up for it with a GOAT qb and his amazing coaching. Also, he is terrific in free agency.

People love to throw the word “versatility ” around here.

Well Chubb catches passes out of the backfield, makes people miss, is fast and explosive, and has great vision.

Sony is a slow plodder with no versatility

It amazes me that homers are defending Sony over Chubb

It is when the "evidence" is 8 games in their rookie season. If one had used college plays and the such sure. Still a bit premature, but more warranted than evaluating someone on 8 games of play that one of the two could not even do due to injury.

I’m not amazed anymore by the homerism. I was told in the summer that Cyrus Jones and Duke Dawson were not bad picks. That was all time peak homerism that anyone could defend those two terrible football players.

Lol the pretzels some homers will twist themselves into.

They act as if Chubb wouldn’t have thrived in our offensive system with his blue collar attitude and super star skill traits

Cyrus and Dawson are on a NFL team last I checked. They are underachieving compared to expectations.

For a true bad pick or bust look at the 3rd round guy the Jets dropped. (Note: never seen him play. Using PatsFans as a source of this players suckitude.

“YOU CANT KNOW FOR SURE HE WOULD'VE PLAYED WELL” but everyone is perfectly fine saying “if Gronkowski was healthy we win that Giants Super Bowl” or “if Malcolm Butler played we would’ve beat the Eagles”.

Lol so the only way to be bust is to be cut in training camp 4 months after you’re drafted?

If you're claiming Jones and Dawson weren't busts, you've got to admit that you've got a problem. Find a 12 step program.

There’s no way to answer that question at this point. Harry has to see the field first so we know what we have when comparing him to Metcalf. Regarding the other argument in the thread, Michel over his running mate Chubb has definitely been a mistake thus far. Chubb just ran through one of the best defenses the NFL has seen in years behind no OL. Michel couldn’t get it going behind a better OL and much lesser defense. He just hasn’t shown that extra gear that he had at Georgia.

Brady wouldnt throw to a “younger Josh Gordon”?

You're really going to equate the levels of certitude for one game of a multi-year NFL veteran player who has performed in over 40 games previously in the particular team's system with the relevant teammates to a fresh out of college ball rookie who has yet to enter the NFL?????

Really?

Some on this forum can’t even fathom the hypothetical of swapping out player A for player B but have no problem with any “if this then that” when it suits their argument.

And here come the excuses. Maroney already failed to develop in year 2. Don't act like his career suddenly nosedived because of injury. That wasn't until his 5th year that he had a major injury with a different team, ie Denver and his career ended.

People were noticing since year 1 that his style was not north-south and featured too much 'dancing' without the elusiveness of an actual elusive back. It just led to unnecessary losses. This mentality failed to improve in year 2. Maroney was a bad pick. Peroid.
I didn't say it.

You're avoiding the question of comparing apples to lobster there........Both Gronk and Butler had played in the NFL system with the same team and teammates for over 40 games each before the single games in question. You compared THAT to drafting a college player.

It ain't the same and you know it.
