Schefter: Just based on the facts...Brady thinking/setting up to leave NE

On the TEs, I just don't get why BB is keeping both Izzo and LaCosse. At one point a lot of posters said BB felt they were both better than having Ben (youth, cap). I don't get that at all. I see Ben like Harrison's last season with Pats. Guy has one more year left in him before retiring.

As everyone else I can't give you the why but whatever they saw in LaCosse initially must have made them project him into a role that they feel very good about and still do. And now maybe he will have time to get healthy.

Generally BB is not one that gives players infinite time to get back. Can't make the club out of the tub, right ? So there is something they must like about him.

Let’s not ignore costs of assembling elite pieces/ weapons for the offense. Quality TEs are a rare commodity that rarely if ever shake loose from NFL teams and are usually scarce by the time NE drafts at #32. Elite WRs without warts cost $15+ mill per year but touch the ball on an average of 6 times per game. And pedestrian LTs that flash for a year get record contracts.
On the other side of the ball Bill has being collecting short term veteran quality at reasonably low cost. Collins, KVN, McCourty #2, etc.
Bill is getting value in the D market when none exists in the O market.
It’s not as if Bill is ignoring the offense.... #1’s at LT, RB, and WR in the past 3 drafts
Injuries are the issue
Not trying to nitpick but this is false for the most part. Lately we've seen guys like Engram, Howard, Njoku, Hurst go Rd1 but some of the best in the game are all after Rd1. Gronk, Kittle, Walker, Goedert, Ertz etc all post Rd1 guys.

It's a position that usually takes a few years to really excel at. So much more physical, most are asked to do more since they won't be able to use their athleticism like they have in the past.

Bill has said besides QB it's the toughest role to grasped, at least on offense. Unqiue position. Should take a really special player (TE) to make you take them Rd1.

I don't think Marcellus is a hater, and his take seems credible, knowing the way BB operates:

Why Ex-NFL DE Thinks Bill Belichick Has Issue With Tom Brady Amid Talk Of QB’s Future

Yes, but the other side is how is Jarrett Stidham looking????? Further, Jimmy G is not having a better season so far than Brady. Not even close.

For all BB’s favorite saying at Brady during practices of ‘Bringing in Johnny from Foxboro High ‘ the other side of the coin is when it comes to “Put up or shut up, Bb” does he actually have someone better to use for a replacement?

.

yeah but it isn't exactly who is better now but also projecting future production and production per dollar.

If you can get slightly worse production for a lot less money and put other pieces on the roster BB will do it

Moving on from Brady is not a good idea for now or next year.

BB needs to get UP to “slightly worse” for that to happen. He got close with Jimmy G 2 years ago before Kraft thankfully (in hindsight) reportedly cut that cord.

Seeing this quality D destroy newbie QB after newbie QB this year, destroying Goff in the SB last year..... why would BB ever prefer to start his own newbie when he has an .800 QB who just wants some long term love and security.

It’s a staring contest that Kraft will put an end to if Brady doesn’t retire

Yards per game of 286 in 2019 would rank in-line with most stuff from last 10 years. Keep in mind Brady stops throwing in 4th Q since we're having blowout wins. This isn't like 2007 after Spygate where Pats kept throwing all the way.

Yards per Attempt of 7.3 would be higher than 2013 and 2014 but marginally lower than other years. Nothing crazy.

Passing offense rank is #5.

Basically passing volume is still good. Efficiency is ok. Both those are slightly above and slightly below 10 years average. Nothing crazy here. Decline implies a significant drop off. Considering the drop-off in talent from last year (Gronk in particular, who averaged 17 yard per target and a QBR of 120 or something whenever Brady targetted him) the rest performance might even have improved.

uncertainty about how long Brady would keep playing prevented it imo.

A running QB? I'm fine with not doing that.

I think we got enough running backs. A QB is what we want.

Dualthreat QBs are the future of football.

Jackson is not a dual threat QB. Watch Watson, Mahomes or even Wilson pass the ball and then check out cuts (and not only highlights) of the last 4-5 games of Jackson.

He has a looooong way to go as a passer. Until he gets there in terms of consistency and accuracy he remains a running threat for this most part.
