FWIW..

“There’s two names I think that Patriots fans should really pay attention to, and that is Emmanuel Sanders and Mohamed Sanu,” Lazar reported Friday. “The Patriots have called Denver on Emmanuel Sanders. They called them a few weeks ago. Denver said, ‘We’re not there yet, we’re not going to tear the whole thing down quiet yet. So, call us back closer to the deadline and we’ll see where we’re at, record-wise.’ ” Lazar added: “In the offseason, Mohamed Sanu was almost a Patriot. The Patriots had a deal in place for Mohamed Sanu. Atlanta backed out at the last second. … They wanted Mohamed Sanu at one point in time.”

I don’t get the love for sanu. He’s slow and a possession receiver. We could use a quick and twitchy wideout like sanders .

Sanu is a very good/productive WR. Good size, hands and is versatile. He can also rush & throw the ball very well, which is a valuable asset to keep teams off balance (and the playoffs). While it would be great to acquire a “star” WR (Green, Sanders, Allen, Diggs etc), we don’t necessarily need that. We just need guys who are available, smart and CATCH THE F*CKIN BALL.

He has a tough time getting separation though. His numbers have been ok. I feel they need a guy that can get open consistently at least.

That separation stuff is a bit overrated for certain players/ systems. Certain guys like Sanu are able to use their frame/size/ catch radius to haul in contested passes. Also, remember that he plays with arguably the best WR in the league and a pretty productive cast (Ridley and Hooper) so naturally his stats won’t be great but they don’t need to be. He’d likely be fine here, along with Edelman, Gordon, Dorsett, Harry, Meyers & Watson etc..plus imagine how JMD would utilize him down the stretch & the playoffs with trick plays. Yeah, he’s not the “sexy” name that most want, but he’d be a nice get for NE.

I agree. I would like to see someone who can consistently beat man coverage. Harry and Gordon will give us the big targets, I'd like another quick guy who gets off the line fast for our offense.

I'm calling it.

Pats are getting Hooper.

Dimitroff is getting canned by ATL.

Caserio is going to HOU

BB hires Dimitroff.

Hooper signs with NE b/c of Dimitroff
This makes sense. Productive player in the Last year of his contract with a small cap hit. Falcons should be 1-6 after today. Biggest position of need. Some of these other players that are being tossed around have huge cap hits. We have 3.3 mil. (6 mil if we trade Bennett)

Gosh no. I don’t like sanu. We already have guys that can give us sanu’s production. Yes to hooper and no to sanu.
Bingo.

If All of Edelman, Gordon, Dorsett, Meyers, Harry & Gunner are healthy - a not-insignificant If, I admit - then Brady can probably make do with those guys, or at least be better-off at that position than at...

...the TE position, which, on the other hand, is an unmitigated Disaster and in very, Very serious need of a Major talent infusion, ASAP.

...and who else?
You guys are not thinking about the trickle down effect of adding another productive WR/TE to the offense. Hypothetically, if defenses have to focus on Gordon, Sanu/Sanders, Watson, Harry or whatever, that’s going to open things up even more for Edelman and vice versa. Fairly obvious..

I see hooper as a decent receiver who isn’t much of a blocker and wouldn’t really upgrade the position much.

You bring up a point I find funny.
It’s very common to read a comment like dmitroff will come to NE so Hooper will sign here because of him. But I’ve never understood that (including with coaches). What’s to say hooper has a good relationship with dmitroff much less an obligation? They are both in Atlanta but that doesn’t mean they even like each other. not challenging your comment just saying those type comments make me think.

I call bs on this. just my opinion but I see no way an nfl team discussing a trade in week 4(?) would tell the other team “we aren’t quite ready to give up in our season but call us in a couple of weeks and we might”.
but even more than that I find it impossible that someone in the patriot or bronco organization would share that conversation with Evan lazer.

The problem with Sanu isn't that he's useless, it's that he's redundant. Had Gordon's injury been season ending of if the team chose to not activate Harry, it would make more sense. But with Gordon, Meyers and Harry on the way, that type of receiver isn't as helpful. By contrast, a guy who can back up and supplement the Edelman skill set provides substantially more value.

Sanu was likely a more obvious target when Gordon was suspended and the rookies hadn't been acquired yet.

Yes and no. They have to account for whoever is out there as a receiver. They don’t just not cover a guy because he’s a rookie.
If it’s zone it really doesn’t matter who is in there they will cover it the same way. If it’s man theoretically you can get better matchups when they see other receivers as bigger threats. There is also the matter of doubling the best guy if you aren’t worried about the other guys being singled.

Of course the desire to play man and to be aggressive with the pass rush depends on how you feel about being able to man up.

Sanu isn’t going to have any effect on that.

I totally agree. I’d much rather have Sanders/ Hooper. Just playing devil’s advocate.

I said Sanu/Sanders..

Sanders would be useful while Gordon dorsett and Harry are our but if/when all are healthy I don’t think he makes much difference at all.

Get Hooper and roll with Hooper and Edelman, Gordon, Dorsett as your starters

That’s what i was getting at. We have those type of sanu players on the roster. Adding another quick twitchy guy like sanders who can play inside or outside would be nice for this offense or a pass catching tight end like hooper.

Apparently, Denver’s asking price is a second day pick. Let’s get her done, Bill.
