NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Chiefs @ Broncos game thread - (Updated) Reaction to Mahomes' Injury

It is. I think if the artery was at risk, they would have rushed him to a hospital, that's potentially life-threatening.

We'll see. Just some speculation on my part. What isn't speculation is that surgery isn't going to permanently fix the problem, not if you're already succeptable to it.
Might be the same thing E-Rod had. He eventually needed surgery.

The subsequent knee injury shelved Rodriguez for six weeks, and he never quite returned to his May form when he was back — in part because that peace of mind was wrecked by another recurrence of a knee injury. Now, having finally undergone surgery to more permanently alleviate the problems in his landing knee, Rodriguez feels confident again.

“I feel like my kneecap isn’t going to pop out anymore,” Rodriguez said. “That’s a good thing because I feel comfortable now.... Maybe this year I’ll be ready to just throw and not think of the knee anymore.”

Red Sox: Eduardo Rodriguez finally confident in knee

if Mahomes is not himself this year or even out, are the Bills/Texans literally our only AFC threats left?

or no

also "maybe" Colts?

Probably the Texans and Colts. More the Texans.

Now that KC is tanking, they should trade us Kelce and/or Hill :D

Bills is not a threat. Brady had his worse game ever and they could not win. Baltimore and Texans are the only options.

Baltimore: lack of pass rush and LJ
Texans: OL is avg and Watson is inconsistent

If we stay healthy i like our chances ...

Correct from everything I know with dealing with the same thing. Mine was a traumatic injury ice skating, I had no prior cases in 30 years of dislocation and prior to injury had great patella tracking. Some people are prone to this injury however based on how the patella sits in the femoral groove. Those are the ones that suffer repeated dislocation easier. However once anyone suffers it, the likelihood of another dramatically increases. I don't know if his possible surgery technique would be the same, but mine they basically sutured my medial plica to my lower patellar tendon to tighten and stabilize everything. This has led to daily knee pain and soreness. It's not terrible but certainly uncomfortable and I can't imagine playing sports or being active like I used to. I can jog moderately without much pain but sprinting is out of the question. Who knows how heal respond, plus he gets better care and rehab than me, but certainly he isn't out of the water just yet and could forever be changed based on this injury. Honestly the best thing for him and anyone to prevent this injury is having very strong quads and Hamstrings.

Could very well be. Good comp.

I will say, I don't put it past Mahomes to still play at a pretty high level, he's just going to have to play differently.

Andy Reid did make Michael Vick a pocket QB after all.
McNabb as well.

If it is the kneecap, I'm not optimistic he can survive the season. He's still going to be required to move around and with a stretched out patella tendon, not a good situation.....

Sadly, I think this is the career trajectory he's on simply because of his style of play. He leaves himself open to these injuries, though the one last night was a freak thing on a sneak. Nonetheless, guys who run around and extend plays as much as he does are just more susceptible to getting hurt.

I wish him a speedy recovery, even if him missing games benefits the Pats. He's good for football, especially since there don't seem to be many good QB's of the future right now.

The xray shows stuff isn't broken and is relatively in the right place. Which is of course good. The rest of the stuff is all from the MRI. Anyone making any 2-3 week predictions, like they all are over on the Chief's boards are just plain old guesses.

Yes, this, pretty much. Assuming the artery isn't threatened, surgery isn't necessary, per se. In theory, he could be back in a couple of weeks.

You're right there, there's a loooot of hoping and praying at 345 Park Ave.

How about that other qb? Did flacco just look like he really didn’t want to even be on the field last night?

Flacco's apparently gone full-on Cutler.

He's just cashing that check, man. Checking down, and cashing checks. That's the Joe Flacco way, now.

Which is why I'm rooting for the Colts in that matchup. I felt dirty typing that. I do believe both the Colts and Texans will drop a few more games before the Pats play @ Houston! KC can very well lose a few of their upcoming games especially vs Green Bay and Minnesota! The Pats/Chiefs game might be meaningless by December 8th!

Chiefs reddit posters are mostly all-in on trading for Eli, if Mahomes is out for an extended period of time, going so far as to say that Eli would be their only chance to beat the Pats.

And how did that work out?

I'd rather have Matt Moore.
