The Patriots have receiver problems

something is wrong with Gordon though

Oh let's see. He has not played contact football in almost a year. He is playing clean for the first time. The offense and team are different than last year. He missed training camp. He has not been able to pick up the chemistry with Brady yet. There is no Gronk to double team. He is a year older and not in football shape yet. Shall I keep going or do we get the point?

I’m just happy he’s sober and think that is remarkable in itself, considering his past. If he can make it though the season, that would be awesome.

He’s also on pace for 884 yards and averaging 15.8 ypc.

Going into last week, Brady had a passer rating of 124. Now every WR and player on offense is a disappointment? Check out Brady’s stats vs. Buffalo last December. They’ve actually built a great defense that matches up well with the Patriots.

Every year like clockwork...if we only had this $100M receiver...let's trade for that $130M receiver... (you'd think the Patriots had never had a top 5 offense in the league)

Ken hit the nail on the head - the OL coming together and improving will do more for this offense than ANY skill position player. Improve by .25 - .5 yards per carry in the run game and watch the WRs we have suddenly explode in productivity.

But nope, we have to implode the entire salary cap, destroy the defense by creating a situation where multiple players would have to restructure, just to get another WR that in the last game wouldn't have made an ounce of difference in the QB's ability to actually get him the ball. Genius I tell you...pure genius.

My goodness, Bill just acquired a major WR a few weeks ago because he saw a need and already the forum "experts" are chiming in.

I’m sorry, who won the game in Buffalo????
.
You can thank the Bills QB for that. Three INTs and two sacks on third down in what had been field goal territory. No TD passes. He sucks royally.

Josh Allen has Drew Bledsoe’s arm and Butthead’s brain.

To think the Bills could have had Mahomes. We wouldn’t be winning many from them if they did.

The lamenting of the loss of AB is getting tired, initially as it was solely "he said she said" civil suit, then came other allegations and finally the veiled threats via twitter(he was advised by all to back off, but AB knows better)... you do not want this guy on your team, no matter how you look at it.

I thought from the onset they could have done better at TE, but they didn't, Watson is good but not Gronk good, in the last two years he has had 96 receptions in NOLA.. not bad. If we can get about 35 receptions and 4 TD that would be great.

The O line is concerning as this unit has been unstable from the onset, losing Andrews and now Wynn has caused things to change immensely.. Wynn's return will be helpful, but not sure they can replace Andrews..

By week 8, if everything works out our WR corps, will be Gordon, Edelman, Harry, Meyers and Dorsett + Watson + White + Burkhead is pretty good on paper.

Brady needs to develop more trust in his secondary receivers... when he only has eyes for a couple of receivers the defense can focus.. remember when we used to hear, "Brady's favorite receiver is the open receiver"???

The Patriots Defense says “Eff You”.

Kiddo, when it comes to football knowledge, you aren’t worth Ken’s nail clippings.

So I suppose Bill, who saw a need at WR, isn't worth a damn either. I'm for everyone having their own opinion here, but when people start calling others stupid or at least insinuating it, which is what the poster above did, I'm not going to sit back. I never called myself an expert, but when the so-called experts act like they own this forum then yeah I'll respond.

Two things bug me a bit:

1) Josh Gordon has zero explosiveness and seems to still be out of football shape. He just looks like he's lumbering out there. And too many seemingly catchable balls for a receiver of his caliber and size are gliding through or bouncing off of his hands.

2) Why hasn't Meyers been given a few more opportunities? I know he's a rookie and I'm not suggesting he be out there a majority of the snaps... but the kid showed he's got game. I guess I just thought we'd see a bit more of him to this point, especially against some of the weaker competition.

My biggest concern is the fact that we have no running game (to this point) to offset a weaker passing attack like we did last season. We leaned heavily on the run last season out of necessity, but that's not a viable option right now and who knows when it will improve? This concerns me once we start to see some top-tier teams. BUF was the biggest test we've had so far and look how that game played out. If Allen didn't absolutely suck, we could easily have dropped that game. So yeah, WR is a legit concern to this point.

We need to put to rest the "Gordon needs more time to get into football shape" excuse. How much time did AB miss with his frostbitten feet or grievances or after his blow up with Mayock? AB played like his hair was on fire when he got on the field in week two.

Gordon has had four full regular season games to get into shape so it's a lame excuse.
His heart isn't "all in" IMO...or at least hasn't been yet.

1) Agreed, Gordon looks oversized and slow

2) Let’s hope Meyers’ shelfing was mostly about the team trying to get AB up to speed at Meyers’ expense. He has to get worked into the system now, who else do they have

3) I have virtually no hope that NE will get their running attack going this season.
Pieces that made last year’s running attack special do not exist this year
No 6th lineman Gronk
No battering ram Develin
No man mountain
No Andrews
Worse, the right side of the line is consistently losing head to head battles
It’s a mess
I’m just hoping for stabilization

Its really just one bad game for the offense. I'm confident Gordon will improve as the season progresses. Against Miami, AB took away his targets. Against Buffalo, no one on offense played well.

Might I dare say trade for Kenny Golladay?
I'd gladly cough up a first for him.
What other receivers are still on their rookie deals that we could try to trade for?
Golladay?
Higgins?
Washington in Pitt
Kirk in Arizona
I know BB will bring a player in we just don't know who at this point

They don't have Mahomes.

And imagine if Kansas City had Buffalo's defense?

But they don't.

It's a team game. All three phases. Your take is weird.

What an ironic post. Read what you just wrote. Ken didn't deserve what YOU introduced into the thread.

He went off on another thread about people wanting WRs. So it really has nothing to do with you, unless you are still mad at me for not worshipping Kraft like you do..

This coming from a poster that tells others they don't belong here.

The irony thickens

Nope, it was a Special Teams problem.

Next it will be a Safety problem.
