Well unless he has zero input on the players being brought in/shipped out, bringing Flores in now gives him a head start on rebuilding the team the way he wants.

But they will have new QB, different chemistry etc.

With a rookie QB, next year can begin the rebuilding.

Now Flores will be guaranteed of two losing years before he even gets started.

Tank for nobody. Luck was not worth that horrible season and the way it left things with Manning (as much as I cant stand him). On the whole. Luck was a big disappointment despite some flashes.

Some of you gleeful over Flores are sick. This guy was with the Pats for 15 years and recently led the lowest points Defense against ever allowed, in a Superbowl, for us. Also can't blame a guy for making 10x more to take care of his family.

Strategically, it is sound long term to tank this year and reload with guys who want to be in Miami.

Gase won games which clearly is an unacceptable outcome this year.

Well I only see a few scenarios:

1 - They brought in Flores for the long-haul and intend to keep him for the 3+ years it will take before they're truly competitive.

2 - They brought in Flores thinking they would compete now but as the offseason developed their FO saw opportunities to build for a post-Brady AFCE and went that route and will make decisions on Flores as things pan out.

3 - They brought in Flores knowing full well they were going to tank thinking why not weaken the Pats?

Honestly, I just feel bad for Flores. I can't imagine him knowingly going into a tanking situation unless he was given a multi-year gentleman's agreement with the FO/owner that they would let him build up a new culture there while building up a roster to compete by 2022.

Agree completely. I think they are committed to Flores and the way to deal with it is to trade as many of those they feel are expendable while they can, and build around some of the young players they drafted the past few years. Flores should sit any of the malcontents for as long as he has to.

Luck's career trajectory is largely due to him going to a terrible organization.

Grigson spent most of his draft capital on the defense and left Luck to get hit like a tackling dummy.

Luck's coaches were more concerned about their careers than his, and they looked the other way when he would try to run for 1st downs and get creamed.

Any QB needy team would have gladly tanked for Luck.

Flores made a mistake in leaving, I know it was a huge opportunity for him and no one wants to pass that up but he doesn't have enough experience for a job like this. A few more years of being a DC with the Pats would have landed him a better situation in the future. He really only took over calling the defensive plays a year ago when Patricia left, he jumped ship too soon.

In hindsight it seems like they knew they were tanking so they searched for a coach to take a beating and ultimately the choice was about how do you hurt your rival. The coaches that followed him are the real suckers.

Many 'experts' thought it was neck and neck between Bledsoe and Rick Mirer and both were "sure things"....... We know how that turned out..
One had 50 TDs for a career, the other 255 and 44,000 passing yards..(15th all time overall)

Luck has also benefitted from people (media, fans, NFL) pumping him up his entire career and making excuses for him. This is another excuse.

When you look at his career in a vacuum : he was VG. When you consider the talent/hype vs the playoff failures and INTs, he was not much.

In the end, too many people want to praise “good players”. The only goal, ultimately, is to win the SB. Luck was propped up to the point everyone was saying “multiple SBs”. In the end, the chien one failed to win the big ones. While talent was not always up to par, his INTs contributed to the lack of championships.
