Demaryius Thomas cut

This would make me feel better if Zolak wasn't a complete hack.

Edelman and Gordon are our top 2 WR's.

Why is unreasonable to want Thomas as our #3/#4?

He might share reps with another #3/#4. That would be fine, wouldn't it?

He had the chance to step up when tasked with wr1-2 duty, but failed to do so. He is a wr3/4. This data set confirms it and it is why he was let go. You likely got a dislike because while playing 7 more games in 2018 than in 2017 he only gained 100 more yards, that is “significant” in terms of productivity, not “roughly”, especially given that he was asked to be the primary wr.

I think if he is healthy Thomas will challenge Gordon for production.

We were talking about hogan, but you are right Thomas and our rookies should be good wr 3-4 options.

Couldnt we just sign him back over the next day or two?

Edit * This is a rhetorical question
We could, but then why cut him in the first place one week before the first game?

I guess you have not been reading anything that has been posted about it in this forum....nor understand how to protect players.

Ok since everyone is all sad...

The pats cut DT because he is a vested veteran with over 4 years of NFL experience. That means that when cut he is not subject to the waiver process and immediately becomes a UFA - that's an Unrestricted Free Agent BTW....meaning he can sign with any team at any time.

The reason they did this instead of keeping him on the roster is that it frees up a spot for a player that they can not do this with. Most likely one of their rookie players that they are still evaluating. If they cut one of these players they would probably lose them to another team since all teams will get a shot at him - in order of worst record of 2018 to best record of 2018. GO and Meyers would certainly be scooped up.

So what the Pats did is effectively increase their roster to 54 (technically 55 if you include Hoyer assuming they A. Want him back and B. Hoyer does not sign with another team. But this is another discussion)

So, the Pats now have a few days to evaluate an extra player or two for free. They can see if they are really worth keeping, or they can evaluate if this player needs to go to IR. Its just basically taking advantage of the rules. I am sure they told DT what they are doing and I am sure DT A. Respects BB and B. Wants his team to be the best team possible.

Its just smart personal management. They know what they have in DT. They still dont know what they have with a few other players or who really needs to go on IR etc.

I don't think anyone is sad that we cut DT with the intention of re-signing him.

We're sad that you personally attack other posters' fandom and intelligence on a regular basis.

Who is we're?

Also, I "attack" people? Who have I attacked? Who's fandom have I questioned? I think its a little rude to ask a question in a thread and then ignore all the answers and info posted about the question.

There are extremely knowledgeable posters here who put up a lot of great info and put a lot of effort into their posts. I get annoyed when it is just ignored by posters to lazy too read it.

Zo is also sh##-faced most Sundays by 6:10 pm, let alone 9:10 pm

I would assume he’s not coming back, or at least in no rush to take what the Pats are offering him, if he’s not at practice today.

To be fair to Bruins29, this was discussed in depth in this thread before hand, and in multiple other threads. Doesn't give him the right to be mean or anything, but posters should bare a little responsibility to read the thread when posting.

This is a reasonable, indeed highly likely scenario. But an awful lot of people are presenting it as an obvious fact when it's really just conjecture based on fans' impressions of his game four performance.

Unless and until Thomas signs a new contract with the Patriots, the reality is that they cut him, period. Another WR-needy team is free to make him an offer he can't refuse. Surely wouldn't have cut him if they weren't prepared to live with that outcome?

It’s a real concern. It makes me sad to see he & his sunglasses during the early show.

I read that both sides were interested in a reunion. I also forgot to mention that DTs contract (as other posters have noted) was pretty crappy. So they may want to re-evaluate that too - granted they did not need to release him to do it.

Also, I think there is plenty of security in cutting him because him and BB "could" have had a discussion on how this will play out before they cut him. Also, more importantly, they dont really need DT. Nice to have, sure! But if Harry is back, they would be fine with what they have.

If Thomas still has his 4.38 speed he can offer another dimension that Harry can’t give us.

BREAKING: DT back in town...

Do you think he has 4.38 speed (measured when he was 23 years old) now that he is 31 years old and has had 2 torn Achilles injuries since then?
