We're kind of jam packed at safety, no? At least when Chung comes back...

I guess but I don't see Obi making the team and not sure what Bill is thinking.

Of all of Bill's ATROCIOUS 2nd round DB picks, who's the worst: Terrance Weatley, Tavon Wilson, Jordan Richards, Cyrus Jones, or Duke Dawson?

I actually thought Dowling could cover and his career was more derailed by injuries rather than pure suckyness like the others. And thank God looks like they broke the cycle with Williams.

It'll be Harmon, Chung, Brooks, McCourty and some Joejuan at safety

Richards shutters

So wasting picks in fine because we win is basically what this all boils down to then?

The expectation that 100% of draft picks will end up being major contributors leads to a lot of pointless hand wringing when one of them doesn't. It's irrational and a waste of time. On a team loaded with cornerbacks, Dawson's leg injury doomed him. Had he not been injured this all may have played out quite differently.

I don't know why people twist themselves into knots to say that people aren't bad picks if they hang around on another teams roster. He was drafted to play, and play well here. He did neither. That makes him a bad pick.
Thats pretty much it.

He was hurt Year 1. My belief is that stunted his development.

He had the entire offseason to get back to health and know the defense better.

He had OTAs, mini-camp, TC and pre-season to improve, rise up the depth chart and beat out a 4th or 5th CB and or a backup FS. He didn't.

He had an opportunity to stand-out on STs. He didn't.

He did not provide the team with any return on the pick (except a 6th rounder).

BB whiffed. It happens.

The hope is it does not impact the team long-term.

Pats just traded for C Russell Bodine

The second round is not an island.

The goal is putting together the best talented football team to challenge for a Super Bowl.

As long as year after year you do this, what does it matter that your strategy is to look for reaches in the second round?

This is not an either/or scenario, no matter how hard you try to make it one, and you ignore the problem of having to overcome blown picks. And, before you continue down the path of "Is too!", you should take a look at the last few drafts. The Patriots winning a bunch of Super Bowls doesn't make the recent Patriots drafting good.

This logic is ridiculous. The position is deep so we can waste picks.

No it's a strategy in an overall plan.

Bill wants to take risks in the second round.

I absolutely despise this type of crap. We do a lot well so who cares what we don't do well. Absolute loser mentality. Good enough.

Do you think Kraft would say to Bill what happened with Dawson and he would just flash his rings smugly and walk away? Do you think Brady would throw a pick and just say "oh well I have 6 rings"? Of course not. Just because you are good does not mean there is no room for improvement.

Damn I forgot Belichick TRADED UP for this jag too

Sadly Dawnson fell down the creek and never got it together.

" we should have won 10 Lombahdies"

Blowing picks is not a good strategy.

And we've talked often on this board about BB's propensity to use round 2 as a gamble round. You're not bringing anything new to the table with this. You're just confusing "At least" with "Doesn't matter, because".

BB just needs to quit drafting rookie CBs in the second round and start getting them only as UDFAs.
