There is an obscene amount of love for this guy on the interwebs. I don't get it. Decent QB but didn't win much in the post season and couldn't stay on the field. OL or no OL you have to figure out a way to stay healthy.

He never got on any fanbase's bad side whether by ****ishness (perceived or real) or dominating teams when it counted.

Not really, Dakich was just as critical of the Colts as Luck, saying that they have a history of lying to their fans and saying anything possible to sell season tickets. Luck having a snowboarding shoulder injury apparently been a rumor around Indy for years.

This is why the 5-year waiting period is in place. Right now is not the right time to evaluate Luck's HOF candidacy. Too much ESPN "hot take" nonsense in the immediate aftermath of his stunning announcement.

In 5 years from now, we can look back and see that the idea he is HOF worthy is a joke.

IDK, I'm willing to call it a joke right now, even though I think Luck was a pretty good QB. He didn't get to do much, though, because he was plagued by injuries and even when he was playing well, he kept running (or throwing, I guess) into a brick wall known as the New England Patriots.

He was sacked less than Brady last season and his sack totals since coming into the league seven years ago are similar to Brady's. That doesn't include playoff runs, where Brady's been sacked 27 times since then and Luck 11.

Lucks been sacked 174 times since 2012, Brady 197, Russell Wilson 299..

I don't think it's as much of Oline problem as it is maybe bad luck, injury prone or whatever. Some guys can just take a beating and others can't for one reason or another.

QBs all take a lot of hits. I remember many unnamed “scouts and GMs” saying there’s no way Big Ben plays past 30. Luck’s injuries appear to be unfortunate random events or due to his durability. Many other QBs out there take as many hits and even more over the course of their careers. The idea that poor offensive line play ruined his career should not just be thrown out as a fact when there are many doubts about that. Another point is that Luck has never had a quick release time and part of the scouting “props” was his scrambling ability, size, and toughness.

The differences is that one of the two has kept working on protecting himself the other kept trucking DEs that were on him just to get one more pass off.

As said before.. some of the blame for how his body (and mind) is worn down has to go to himself for not learning to let go of some plays.

Looking at this situation again, I think Luck's decision to retire before the season is poor. This is the profession he chose. He has quit on the fans, his team mates and all the people that invested time in him. He is over there talking about all this interest that he has in things outside football and it kind of annoys me.
I don't know why and how he is getting all these support for quitting at his job. No explanation can change my mind so if anybody wants to reply to this and try to do that, please stop and don't waste your time. I come from a time and place where you were lauded for completing your job. There was no quitting worthy of praise.
What would I have respected? He goes on IR, rehab his lower leg injury if indeed he is that hurt. Give it a go, if it does not heel by the end of the season, retire then. Don't tell us you used 10 days to decide to quit. Are people pretending and being just nice about this or I am crazy or weird?

Lol so when do you deem it okay for a football player to retire? When he’s had so many concussions he’s assured that he will be drooling on himself by 50 years old? When he’s barely able to walk? Or just when his body and skills have deteriorated to the point where no one wants him?

I don't think that he chose the timing. I think that he came to the Colts with the idea of retiring a month ago, or maybe even months ago, they tried to talk him out of it, and they tried to sell as many season tickets as possible by lying to their fans in the meantime.

With the season about to start, it was time to end the charade and stop lying.

That is an interesting and plausible theory. So the seemingly moving lower leg injury is also part of this charade?

I highly doubt Luck will unretire. He's made it clear the reason is because the injuries have been piling up and interfering with his well-being. Sad because he finished last season as arguably the best QB in the league and he finally got an offensive line to work with.
