2018-19 Stanley Cup - Bruins vs Blues

Pretty much sums up my viewpoint. In game I felt from an officials message sending standpoint it should have either been 5 or a double minor. I don't think it was suspension worthy but the league has made it clear from previous suspensions this year that the bar is low on head shots

To your point, the in game officials don’t have a great tool to work with; some over officiate and others under.

They go under and then the league suspends. They go over and impact a game.

Have a more defined staggered penalty menu to choose from in game..

Or Maybe an in game review like targeting in CFB would solve the “gap”.

I understand I’m in the minority on this board but this is Garbo. He’s going for a hit into the boards, can’t help it if gryzlak loses balance before impact leaving himself vulnerable.

I disagree for the reason they laid out in the video explanation, quoted here by a Blues reporter

His original target area was the Right shoulder. He chose to go left even after he he had time to react to the “toe pick/ deke/ stumble”

I do think for any offence that could subsequently draw a suspension or could be construed to be of the old 'deliberate attempt to injure' standard a review should be automatic. There aren't so many of them that the game would be adversely impacted compared to what can happen when players take matters into their own hands.

I don’t know STL too well, aside from starting to watch in the DAL and SJ series’. Is this really that big of a loss? He had a previous high of 5 points heading into this season.

It has become fairly clear the NFL's concussion suit has impacted the way the NHL handles head shots/plays that drive heads into boards. Sundqvist's hit from behind resulted in a concussion, that's a a one game suspension now. It is what it is

It’s a pretty decent loss. Good size and he’s made some big offensive plays this postseason. Is what it is. Hoping they treat it like the hand pass and it galvanizes the team further.

At the end of the day it’s just bad for the quality of the game too.

It’s a fast violent game, things can and do happen. Huge highlight reel hits are great; the Kyle McLaren Hip Check YouTube wormhole is one of my favorites.

But you can light someone up with having to go for the “kill shot”.

Game is better when the best 600 players can play.

Moving at that speed when your committed to the hit, how they can say someone should’ve reacted better is beyond me.

And here I was hoping they’d treat it like the Rome hit on Horton

I think their point is he was committed to a hit...and then he opted for a “better” one.

I’m guessing it depends on if Thomas is back for game 3. If he’s not, we bring up Sanford for offense. If Thomas is good to go, we bring Dunn back and go with 7 defenseman.

Oh I see their point. Doesn’t mean I have to agree with it lol.

Oh please...I think the Bruins have a bigger reason to be pissed off as their friend and teammate probably misses the rest of the playoffs and has concerns about his long-term health because of a reckless hit.

Reckless hit. Lol Jesus, he was committed to the hit, what do you want him to do at that rate of speed when the player he’s aiming for loses his balance at the last second changing the point of impact? Mine as well just ban hitting all together.

He and his fellow 4th linemates often looked like the best line vs. SJ.

Regards,
Chris

Why do you think the hitting from behind penalty was called? Because he finished the hit when he saw Grz's back. He was committed to making the hit, but still had time to pull up a bit or redirect his body not to make it a direct hit into Grz's back even at "that rate of speed".

The penalty was a legit boarding call, thus making it a reckless hit. I am a little reluctant about the game suspension. The point of my post was that you think the Blue's were slighted and could use this to galvanize as a team because of the debatable 1-game suspension he received by comparing it to the BS hand pass that SJ got away with. I found it a bit ridiculous compared to how the Bruin's locker room is probably feeling pretty PO'd about the way they played and the status of Gryzclek.

If they banned hitting then we wouldn't be able to enjoy good clean hits like Krug laid on Thomas.
