Celtics 2019 / 2020

Yes and No.

See: What happens to Celtics salary cap if Kyrie Irving leaves?

Summary: A lot of moving parts, but we can sign a max player if we trade away some salaries. Kyrie walking would give us about 14M to play with (assuming Horford extends and we resign Morris/Rozier).
As a replacement....no
Purge the roster....yes

Morris and Rozier can expect big raises regardless of who they play for. Bringing Morris and/or Rozier back will consume some if not all of the $14 mill you see as spendable excess.
What remaining salaries add up to anything close to a max contract?

My choice..... Al stays
Kyrie , Morris, Rozier all go.
Morris has limitations
Rozier is dumb
Kyrie is not the player or person to build around

I am in agreement that we should let Rozier walk. I liked Rozier's contributions, but he isn't a starter in this league, IMO....too streaky of a scorer even if his D is good.

Morris, I'd try to resign. He is gonna cost us money anyway...and he has been a very valuable starter/bench guy for us. Fearless shooter...and you love him when he's hot...not so much when he isn't....but he makes up for that with hustle.

Dunno about Kyrie...I am completely torn, but keeping Kyrie increases our odds of landing AD. And if Rozier leaves and one of Brown/Tatum are traded away....it will make the team Kyrie's team and everyone will have to fall in line. Dunno...to be honest...Kyrie isn't my favorite player right now and I thought he played badly in the last 4 games of the playoffs...35% from the floor isn't max player performance, IMO...and a lot of those shots were open looks. The question I have is whether it was just a bad streak....or a precursor of things to come.

Either way....this team will be led by Kyrie...or we will go for a youth movement. The latter is more appealing to me....I really liked last year's team as well as the IT led Celtics the 1-2 years prior....every player was likeable until we traded for Kyrie.... BUT DID THEY WIN IT ALL? No..... this is the NBA...you need elite talent to get deep into the playoffs. Next year will be interesting because the Dubs might not have Klay nor Durant and the playing field will be more even....

I am torn....and the point I was making is that we can sign a max guy if we wanted to. The NBA has a soft cap and the luxury tax is something like 150%....anything is possible. I just hope we don't see Kyrie and KD in New York though...that would suck.

kyrie should join the Harlem globe trotters. its the perfect league for him.

And if AD comes whose team is it then and why? I want no part of the ****storm that would be a Kyrie-AD led team.

Yeah, the dynamic would be weird...but doesn't mean there wouldn't be results on the court. I root for laundry....and our laundry isn't playing today.

Kyrie Irving is Cancerous Poison. If Danny allows him to remain here, then there's no hope for us at all.

2 thought going forward.

1. Sign Kyrie and AD together. Give Kyrie the team he wants (LeBron treatment) and go from there.
2. Keep the young roster intact and add to it...draft/max contract etc.

not sure what will work but hopefully Danny has a plan that is better than last years failed experiment

hell no. screw kyrie and AD i dont want either one of those divas. i like option 2.

Like no sh!t ... this is pretty much how I had it.
Ainge just needs to get a quality center and move Horford to PF and we can compete.
Would love to see Ainge find a way to land Bruno Fernando in the draft ... it's what we need.
Horford moving to PF will negate the loss of Morris ...
hate to lose him but he deserves to get paid.

Good riddance.

Good riddance.
I agree ... and if it is between those 2 teams he should go to the Nets.
Pairing up with Lebroni is like being marked with a sh!t stain for life.

I'd like to see Williams get chance to step up next year. He has a lot of extremely valuable traits that can't really be coached and did pretty well in the very limited time he got this season.

Yes I like him but would still like another big and get rid of Baynes and Theis ... both useless.

Is #22 too early to take a chance on Bruno Fernando? The other Centers ranked ahead of him (by espn) are either bean-poles (Jackson Hayes, Minute Bol Jr, Nick Claxton) or an awkward euro (Gogo Bitadze) or undersized (Kabengele).

He'll be gone by 10 or so ... he's like Ibaka .. that is what we need.
We have plenty of scoring we need rim defense and rebounding.
Horford can do it in spots but not game after game ... we can move him to PF.
Bol Bol is intriguing but a huge gamble on the body and his desire to put the work in.

Rim defense and rebounding is exactly what Williams gives you.

He does but we need 2 rim protectors so we can get rid of Baynes and move Horford to PF.

there's some grumblings about bringing in Clint Capela.......I would like that

Kyrie Irving now Officially a UFA.

Good riddance.

williams is another year from being a regular part of the rotation......I'd like to make a deal for clint capela and have williams minutes increse as horfords decrease.....the only thing that capela and williams don't give you is a 3pt shooting big
