Thomas is a JAG but Yeldon would be a nice complimentary back.

Thomas had 59 catches last season, prior to popping his Achilles, even though he played for 2 different teams and had to adjust as a result. He had 83 catches in 2017, 90 catches in 2016, and more than 90 catches in each year from 2012-2015.

He may turn out to be a JAG post-injury, but he certainly wasn't one beforehand.

Just as an exercise, and assuming they sign both players (and I haven't forgotten anyone noteworthy), here's what they'd have at the offensive skill positions heading into the draft:

Brady

Edelman
Thomas
Dorsett
Gordon
Ellington
Harris

Michel
Burkhead
White
Yeldon
Develin

Lacosse
Jenkins

There goes Reiss' proposed trade.

Assuming Gordon comes back mid-season, that's not a terrible crew. Even if the draft is a disaster, we could probably win a lot of games with that lineup. Absent Gordon, however, it looks pretty lackluster, particularly given the uncertainty around the injury to Thomas. I'd still like two each at WR and TE in the draft, but perhaps it's not quite as urgent of a need.

I view White as more of a pass catching RB and not a between the tackles "runner" per se.

so you view Yeldon as a backup to Sony? and white as a second RB starter?

I'm ok with the WR group and RB group as pre-draft groups (I'd still be looking to buttress the WR spot with draftees and later released WRs). That TE pairing is woefully insufficient, IMO.

Yea I think so. I think 2019 will be a continuation of the playoffs in 2018. More running. Solid defense and Tom doing his thing. If that is the case then they need a respectable running threat if god forbid Sony misses a lot of time.

I'm not sure Yeldon is that guy but he gives the team more in the pure running game than Sweet Feet

I'd prefer Jeremy Hill if he was was 100% healthy over TY as I really liked his physicality but I think Yeldon can give them what White can't running and Burk can't because he's made of glass.

Yeldon would be RB4 / big body RB / equivalent of Jeremy Hill. However with passing upside which would give them more options to create mismatches.

Sony is the classic RB, White the passing back and Rex the middle ground who can do both (which opens up ways to force opponents into bad looks ect.) and can give both a break. Yeldon would slot in behind all of them.

The type of WR/TE we will get will give us a better idea if we continue the running trend. We lost two key components that made the running game so efficient with Allen and Gronk.

Without Gronks flexibility there will be more loaded boxes this year for us to run into because unless the reinforcements on offense are very strong blockers we will be a bit more predictable.

Probably but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they signed him to this contract in order to make him more attractive as trade bait. Now teams know that they will have him for multiple years, instead of potentially as a one-year rental.

If they indeed signed him in order to keep him, it makes the Tate signing even more baffling, unless they plan to really play Shepard full time on the outside.

So they did that to create another 20m+ in dead cap space ? It really doesnt make much sense to extend and trade a player in his situation.

So long as they stay injury free. An injury to Edelman could be disastrous.

Also don’t forget Gordon hopefully at some stage.
Let’s imagine we sign DT, Gordon comes back, and we have Edelman. Staying with this dream scenario, all 3 stay healthy and avoid any suspensions. If they all played to their potential, this league would have a serious problem on its hands. The tears would be so delicious!

I know. But I waaaaaant him.

Imagine Yeldon could be the Hill replacement? Wouldn’t be the worst signing would also mean we wouldn’t have to give Sony the ball 20-30 touches a game. Obviously James White is our 3rd down back/slot guy for 22 personal (see Super Bowl)

I think DT's chances of signing here will be all about the contract. Remember this is a guy who's been making over $10MM/yr for several years now. It will be interesting, given his injury situation, to see what he is expecting from a new team. I can't see the Pats giving him anything CLOSE to $10MM coming off a mediocre season in Houston AND an achilles injury.

I think a deal the Pats could live with would be a $5MM contract with incentives that could increase that number by about $3MM. Of course if the Pats have their druthers, very little of that deal would be guaranteed.

Early in the FA process, I wasn't at all interested in DT mostly because of what I expected his salary demands to be and his particular injury situation. But now a couple of months into FA, I'm thinking his salary demands have become more realistic and it looks like he'll be ready be ready to play prior to TC.

I know WE belittle him for being "soft". BELIEVE me, no one who plays in the NFL is "soft". But the fact remains he has been a productive receiver for many years on a team we all hate (which COULD account for at least some of the rancor. ;) ). Josh clearly liked him then, and probably still does.

So at this point, I'd be OK with an incentive laden deal with very little guaranteed. Like ASJ, his signing would take some of the urgency to spend a lot on a WR in the draft, and rather let the draft come to them as far as a WR goes.

Yeldon would be a decent signing IF Hill is really out of the picture. He's been a solid contributor for the Jags over the years. His signing would pretty much eliminate us drafting a RB until very late, if at all.

Lots of ifs, but absolutely. Who needs TEs right? :)

Yeldon would be Oft-injured Burkhead insurance wouldn’t he? Can’t see Yeldon dressing most days as RB5 assuming Bolden dresses for special teams.

We would never trade James white right?
I'm just thinking what BB could be up to.
I certainly hope not White is the Model Patriot.

Yeldon...meh. I think they're pretty set at RB.

Thomas? In the draft thread, I was hoping they'd sign Hogan pre-draft, just to allow flexibility on the board.

So Thomas would be a very nice get if he can come back from that Achilles anywhere near where he was.
