I'm trying to use this tool, but I can't for the life of me get it to display any measurements. I can filter by year, position etc., but only on the default table. The measurements and thresholds tabs don't seem to have any effect.

Is anybody having better luck?

He just updated the code to a new version. I've been having similar issues since then. To my understanding, Thresholds allows you to create custom thresholds for when you launch a RAS card (for example, you might want to use a very low 3-cone as a cutoff for slot receivers), and it will change the color based on matching or exceeding the threshold. I believe it uses purple and blue instead of red, yellow, green.

In the old version, you could quickly create table by inputting parameters. For example, here I've used the 2018 draft class, the DT position, and a broad jump of greater than 9' in order to create this quick table:

I assume that type of filtering is how you want to be able to search?

In the new version, I expect to be able to manipulate the parameters the same way, but it's not as intuitive. I'll try to play around with it and get back to you if I figure it out.

And right on cue, when I tried to launch the program, it prompted me to update to the newest version. Let me see if that corrects the issue.

EDIT: I posted the question on the download page. He should get back to us soon. @patchick

I haven't heard back yet but it looks like a new version released today. He's probably been busy with coding. It does look like the information shows up in the Measurement tab after filtering, but it's less useful than it used to be, because I can't restrict it to a single draft class (which I can do through player selector, oddly enough).

Sticking with my example, I was able to pull up all the DTs in this class and only show their broad jump, but it's considerably less user-friendly than it used to be. Now I have to scroll down to find the year I want and then manually select and copy; far more unwieldy than the previous method. I'll see if I can dig around some more. There's got to be a better way to sort.

You're still doing better than me! Even with the new build I can't get it to display any specific measurables for any players in any way. The measurables tab does nothing; the thresholds tab does nothing; the launch RAS card button does nothing.

It's so frustrating because I can tell he's put a ton of work into the app and the info is all there somewhere, inaccessible! But I've downloaded multiple versions, and they've all been literally useless. :(

Have you watched the YouTube video he has embedded in the download page? It runs through the basics -- I don't know what you've done so far or haven't done, but it's a good baseline.

The old version was actually much easier to use. You typed in a name and got results. Now you have to change the drop down depending on which table you want to use:

The table for Player Selector is the best for quick, simple searches. Type in the name and press the Filter button, and you'll get a result. Then you'll need to click on that name and Launch RAS Card to view the details:

(For some reason "patchick" doesn't produce a match. Sad.)

Thresholds doesn't seem to produce a table. Instead, it lets you change the way that the RAS cards show up. For example, I added some thresholds for passing / best test results for DE. Montez Sweat now has color codes (blue and purple) based on those numbers I entered:

Measurements should do what we've discussed above, but for some reason I can't find a way to delimit by draft class. It includes ALL years by default. Still, if you switch the drop down table to Measurements, click on a few parameters (I added ten yard split, vertical, and broad jump), and then press Filter, then you'll get the results in an updated table. The big problem is that even though you can then click on the headers to sort by year or position, you're still dealing with a rather large data set. The ability to pare down the results would be a fantastic addition, and I'm not sure why he removed the functionality compared with last year's app.

Last year's version, for comparison, when using the RAS Table Builder, I could filter out just WR with a 3-cone time under 6.9 if I wanted to see a select pool of prospects:

upload_2019-3-26_11-34-22.png

These players fit the criteria. I could scroll over to see the 3-cone, or sort by additional parameters to compare who is the tallest or heaviest but still able to show agility. Etc.

Sorry, this is probably more detail than you wanted. It's the consulting engineer in me coming out when faced with a problem. ;)

Reamer, unfortunately it simply doesn't do any of those things for me. It flat-out doesn't work at all.

BUT--I just noticed that the kind, generous man who built it made the raw data available! After some creative merging of tables, etc. I'm now the proud owner of a single massive Excel spreadsheet of historical measurables data that I can filter and sort to my heart's content. It's glorious.

Good! I almost mentioned that if you click on Download CSV then it will take you to his Google document repository, but I thought that might be even less user-friendly. If you're willing to take the plunge into the wild world of raw, unfiltered data, then more power to you.

For better or worse, heaps of raw data is my idea of fun!

While I've got RAS open . . .

I've been considering this comparison lately. 3rd round comp upside pick, perhaps?

Wren definitely fits the Pats' physical profile! He's a weird one to evaluate for me, because it's tempting to lay all of his faults at the feet of playing out of position...but yet they are pretty significant faults, you know?

He's a complete mess. His technique is basically push-the-OL-back-as-fast-as-I-can-and-pray. I've rarely seen someone play in ~ 30 games and still not show any signs of nuance. His production profile is abysmal, both in raw stats and in market share or more advanced metrics; even though he played 0-tech a lot, he still ran himself out of opportunities to make plays.

But then he'll make plays like this, and I just can't help but think that with 12 picks, it's worth it to gamble on his upside in the mid rounds:

Yep, he's tantalizing that way. But it's such a huge red flag when a prospect is "raw" without any reason to be raw. No big position shift, no late start in football, no small school without proper coaching or competition. It makes you wonder if learning techniques and play recognition may just not be his strong suit.

@patchick

I forgot to tell you that he got back to me. Apparently he's working on re-adding this functionality, but he said with the new app it slowed everything down to sort the tables the way I mentioned above. He's redoing his code and he'll update at some point with the type of filters we want. So at some point -- maybe for next year -- we'll be all set. :)

Thanks, good to know! Sadly, the "download csv" option seems to have vanished. :(

it's amazing how often he's updating everything..

Yeah, every week there's an update with pro day details. It may not be a perfect app yet, but I'm shocked he's giving it away for free. There's a lot of useful information. I particularly like the function to produce scouting reports.
