Schefter Rumor: QB Josh Rosen “could be” traded?

That's a big if though. Kyler Murray doesn't look like a generational talent to me so why get rid of your 1st round QB from a year ago?

They want their Mahomes.

There is no sourcing in that article. “From everything we’ve gleaned”, “from what we’ve heard”. That’s internet speak for ‘this is entirely speculation and we have no sources. Sorry Reamer, don’t want to be a pill, but that article doesn’t really help (a dig at TDN, not you).

That's fair criticism, although I'll take my lumps since I chose to post the article. I've given The Draft Network article my imprimatur so to speak.

I will say that they are fairly plugged in, however. I don't think they're just speculating. We'll find out what Arizona thinks in a few weeks.

I thought Rosen showed a lot of guts this year. He’s a tough kid with a lot of talent. Seems really driven to succeed to.

Rosen might cost 56 AND 73 AND a little extra (equivalent of Sam and part of Dawson).

.
(In case you're curious what became of the Jimmy pick, it was traded and retraded and eventually became this year's #56 & #73, plus Christian Sam and part of Duke Dawson. So if the Patriots were to trade pick #56 for Rosen, it would mean that they got four years of Rosen for half of the return from trading away one year of Garoppolo.)

... just kidding. I am intrigued by the Rosen thing because of some articles about how the Pats system is right for his particular game.

Was there anything that came out about Rosen this season that should make us question his character?

Or anything he said or did

Just read Redskins are the favorite for Rosen so if he is traded we are competing with at least 4 teams.
That doesn't bode well for his chance as a Patriot even if we are targeting him and looking to make a deal.

I think their holding out until before the draft or during or even after but they will take Murray imo.

Don't be surprised if Schefter tweets 2 hours from now that he's been traded.
Schefter is the GOAT at covering his tracks.

So much misinformation out there who knows.

Honestly, Schefter's the one person I'd trust over everyone. I'm not saying he's perfect but the dude tends to have it right more than anyone else, imo.

If he says they haven't had trade talks it means either they haven't had trade talks or his contact is somehow out of the loop - which I doubt.

This is simply a shakedown of WASH. ARIZ will see that they can get for them. After all the offseason stuff, I don't see the Giants being really interested.

WASH can trade their 15 which seems about fair. To match that in value, the patriots would need to give their 32, 64 and 73. This is similar to what we would need to trade up for Hockenson, should he drop to 15 [12 seems to be the current goes for Hockenson]

I think their holding out until before the draft or during or even after but they will take Murray imo.

I think a 2nd AND something else would be necessary and fair for Rosen. But if I were the Cardinals, I'd hold out for the "something else" to be a conditional pick. Say aother 2nd in the year after Rosen becomes a starter. That could be in 2020 if he goes to Washington. It could be in 2021 or 2022 if he comes to the Pats.

I'd think the Pats would be very competitive if they gave up the #56 plus their 2020 3rd, AND a 2nd rounder the year after Rosen became the starter. The Cards get 2 top 60 pick and one top 100. , but the pain would be mitigated for the Pats by having them come over time

That might not get it done because other teams will likely be more desperate, but it IS fair compensation in my mind at least.

OK, so it is "fair" for WASH to give their second plus something. However, my guess is that they will give their first, and there will be negotiations with regard to what, if anything comes back in addition to Rosen. WASH needs a QB very badly. A first is a small price to pay, especially Rosen's contract.

WASH can have Rosen for $6.240M/3 years all guaranteed); that is $2.080M). I understand how down folks here are on the 10th picks of last year's draft, and the highest on Wonderlic (not tall that important, but it was a factor for some of us with Jackson last year). $2M for a backup is NOT a lot to pay.

In the end, I see exactly ZERO reason for ARIZ not to keep Rosen as a backup, if all they can get is a second.

I think if we truly believe Rosen can be the next guy after Brady we will get him and will be very aggressive unless Redskins offer their 15th which I highly doubt because the jury is still out on Rosen to be offering something that high.

But I doubt they get a first, if we shoot our 32nd that'll say a lot but highest I'd go is a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th. He's just not proven in this league despite the high upside, me personally worst case I would shoot our 32nd I just think it worth the gamble.

But if I was BB I would have a long talk with Rosen over the phone before pulling any strings to make sure where his head is at when it comes to football and where it would be playing for New England.

I disagree. Rosen was a #10 pick in 2018 for $4.4 AAV for 4 years.

IMHO, he is well worth our 32 and MORE, given that the contract would now be $2.08M AAV for 3 years.

I agree that the jury is out.

I disagree on the last part, assuming they pick Murray. Not only would Rosen be a distraction the entire year, he'd be a descending asset as a back up.
No, IF Murray is the AZ pick, then Rosen will be dealt.

And because they HAVE to deal him, they won't get as much back as he's probably worth. Just as the comp for JG was less than he actually was worth because the Pats HAD to trade him, or watch him walk. Rosen can't walk but the situation of having him and Murray on the same team just isn't feasible in the real world.

Now you are right on Washington being an obvious choice. More in need of an immediate fix, and higher picks. So THEIR 2nd is worth more, as well as every other pick in every round. But stranger things have happened. their offer might not be THAT much better....if they make one at all. Maybe their happy with Keanum and McCoy for a season or two. Maybe they want to "wait until next year". Maybe AZ would rather take a BIT less from the Pats and get him out of the conference.

Of course maybe the Pats don't like Rosen, or maybe they think its still a year too early to use considerable draft capital on a QB, and THEY want to "wait until next year". Now THAT is a lot of "maybe's" Though Rosen is certainly a great off season talking point for us. ;)
