2019 Combine

Just checked it out. Good stuff. 6.45 is a great time. As for any recommendations I' did or didn't make so far I don't feel I deserve any credit as they were superficial. I haven't honestly looked that deeply into this years prospects. I tend to get much more into it once I have the combine #s out.

While I personally value the tape more than the combine it is nice to have numbers on paper before you really get going. If we do draft David Long I of course intend to take full credit though! :)

Check it out! July of last year. I remember these things. ;)

2019 Mock Drafts

Although this does smack a little of teams saying “well we didn’t want him anyway”. I think the Murray to Arizona talk looks set in stone now.

Banogu comps pretty nicely to Jamie Collins. Could be an interesting OLB convert. KVN has played well as a hybrid LB with pass rush responsibility, but depth is never a bad idea.

@BaconGrundleCandy - in your opinion, is Metcalf the next Calvin Johnson or the next Mike Williams (Detroit Bust) or Tavon Austin?
Honestly think if he works & wants to it'll be hard stopping him from being great. He's just not there yet. CJ, JJ, Evans, its plain as day w those guys. Him, I see a guy that needs a year or 2 to really put it together.

I'd say a better producer than Austin but to answer ur question closest to him if he ever reached his peak.

People are going to great lengths defending DK. Media/draftniks are blinded rn w this top 5-10 talk.

Sloppy, but correctable - though not all of it. He is what he is: a Big WR who will win with long speed and long arms, just not with quickness. Jump Ball Joey Flaccid would love him.

There's definitely a place for him in the NFL, no question. I don't think he's as complete as a Calvin Johnson or Julio Jones, but he's so explosive and offers such a threat downfield that in the right offenses what he can't do really may not matter that much.

A couple of guys I came away from the combine thinking might fit our system:

Wr- Samuel of sc, hardman of Georgia.

Te - sternburger of Texas a&m.

Ol - Hyatt of Clemson, mcgrady of Washington

DT - Lawrence of Clemson

De - ferguson of la tech, Ledbetter of Georgia, omenihu of Texas.

S - thornhill of va

Lb - walker of Georgia

CB - king of Michigan

Love Hyatt, Lawrence, and Ledbetter

I think Lawrence and Ledbetter are great fits in NE

Ferguson wasn't allowed to participate at the Combine, so I'm not sure how you came away from the Combine thinking he would fit. ;)

Of course, these are the same guys you've talked up all year -- and there's nothing wrong with consistency -- so I don't know what the Combine had to do with anything.

Has anyone discussed Paris Campbell? I'd love if we could snag him in the late second round (I don't quite know where he is expected to go). He looks like he could do a number of roles for us. Could definitely fill the Patterson role on offense and special teams. He seems to play best in the short to intermediate area and over the middle where Brady is most comfortable and seemingly fits into our scheme well, with the jet sweeps etc. Plus he has the athleticism and speed to go deep.

His explosion stands out on screen. He can be used in a Percy Harvin type role. My fear is that after his outstanding Combine run, he'll go in the 2nd, and that's a bit rich for me.

I'd rather get his teammate McLaurin in the 3rd - 5th range. McLaurin is an ideal Z receiver. I like that he can find soft spots in zone, and that he can also outrun leverage in man coverage (succeeds in outs to the sideline even against outside leverage in numerous games I saw) and is also a special teams gunner. He's almost as fast as Campbell (4.31 vs 4.35) and spent more time running traditional routes, while Campbell did more screens, crossers, sweeps, etc. Layne and Murphy ended up covering McLaurin a lot, for what it's worth, and he had his fair share of wins against each corner -- they're both expected to go in the 30 - 50 range.

I think McLaurin was also a gunner on special teams for Ohio state. I don’t think he was a team captain so that might be the only bb preferred box that is unchecked.

Here's another interesting comp.

Blake Cashman 6-1, 237

40 - 4.50
VJ - 37.5
BJ - 124
3C - 6.95
SS - 4.12

Luke Kuechly - 6-3, 242

40 - 4.58
VJ - 38
BJ - 123
3C - 6.92
SS - 4.12

Not a lot separating them there.

Except for instincts and the ability to play football. ;)

Cashman is getting way overhyped based on a couple good games. The other games I watched, he overruns lanes, gets fooled in playaction, and generally looks like a worse version of Elandon Roberts -- not this season's Roberts, either.

I make no comment on his abilities, just the coincidence of the measurables.

That's fair. I was mostly reacting to the draft network and their infatuation with Cashman. They went way overboard in talking him up after watching his Ohio State game.

I’ve seen that. It seems to me there’s a Blake Cashman in every draft
