Trey Flowers: “We’ve got six, we want seven.”

Not really. Pretty much any serious NFL analyst who's studied a lot of film and knows how to interpret it, would tell you flowers is now a better player than jones.
He's does much much more than Jones who is primarily a passrusher only.
One of the traits of elite players is consistency.
Flowers is consistently great.
Jones has disappeared on the field for long stretches of games throughout his career. He's also got a much easier job than flowers. He's basically a onetrick pony, albeit very good at what he does.
Flowers is more like High a few years ago and Seymour before that, in that they all did multiple things on D and did them all well.

I don't disagree with you nothing what you said is factual though that's my point.

In a few days we will see if BB thinks higher of him than Jones as well.

Maybe because he a better pass rusher and Flowers is a improved Ninkovich. Again i rather have Flowers but it is not like picking Brady against Sam Darnold.

An improve Ninkovich is Mike Vrabel so I'll take that any day of the week. Jones probably is a better pass rusher but in this system that's not what that position is asked to do. Flowers is the superior fit here.

Nobody said it was Brady vs Darnold. But it is like everybody getting excited about Rodgers when he runs around and hits a bomb ignoring that he missed an open receiver the last three plays that all would have netted 10-15 yards because he always wants the home run.

I don't go to ESPN much what's he been saying? Adament? Or just repeating the same opinion? I only ask because he doesn't come off as the adament type I feel like he usually rides the fence.
well a few weeks ago he said pretty confidently that there are 70/30 odds in Flowers returning. Now he still thinks that Flowers will return. Just the same opinion but considering how he reports things I would have guessed he would say him leaving would be more likely, but no.

70/30 is better odds than I give it so I'll take it from Reiss.

There is a person saying that he is half of the player Flowers is. And like you said it is all about duties and skill set. I like Flowers more, but CJ is a rare player too. I rather have both but if i was gonna pick one Flowers would be my choice.

It is like Edelman and Cooks. I rather have Edelman but that doesn't mean that he should make more money than Cooks. He is better for our team, QB and scheme, but Cooks set is superior and almost impossible to find.

Can you compare post season stats?

I can compare F7

Ninko Chris Jones Joe Vellano CJ
HT / Spikes / Dane Fletcher (I do not remember if Collins played the last or 1st 8 games)

Flowers Brown Guy Clayborn
HT / KVN / Roberts

My hope is he and the NEP have talked about numbers/deal structure and aren't totally out of the ballpark. He wasn't "insulted" by their offer but felt they could have come up a bit. Caserio held firm, reiterated how much they wanted him, lets stay in touch bla bla but clearly aren't going higher until the market validates Trey's ask.

Heres to hoping...

Is it possible to give him like 13-14 a year and hide a lot of it in signing bonus? If so, how much can you convert away from cap hits on a deal percentage wise?

Jones never played inside like Flowers can. I'd take Flowers all day long. Jones' visit to the Foxboro PD didn't help his cause here either.

Sorry. I deleted that post. I saw it was already addressed in the thread.

I am not the expert but signing bonus is the gtd part of the deal. If you give him a 30m signing bonus for 5 years that will spread 6m each year. Teams like Eagles convert other ''parts'' of the deal into signing bonus, that will lower the deal for that year and increase into the future. They can give him more gtd money tho.

They can structure it like they did with Gilly. It'll most likely be more money with Trey but as long as he's cool with the staggered payout schedule they can make the cap hits work.

Stephon Gilmore

Well the Sb gives the player money up front that the cap spreads over the length of the contract. If the salaries were stable this wouldn’t really matter much. But in conjunction with the Sb teams incorporate salaries that start low and increase so the cap hit is lower at the beginning but higher at the back end.

I'd like to have some stability on our DL.

Sometimes it is like a revolving door...

Offer Trey a 4/5 yr deal. Maybe $12-$13/yr and see if he is interested....

I think we’re looking at 15m/yr on a 4 year deal. I think the key will be how much of that money they guarantee him.

The other thing is by giving him a 4 year deal he will be able to test free agency at 29, where he could earn himself even more money if he keeps improving like he has done every year since he’s been here. Which would be a win for us and win for him.

Flowers Instagram story has just been a bunch of updates of him hanging out with his family.

Seems like a very down to Earth guy. Doesn’t seem to be making much of a heavy deal about his current situation.

Playoffs

Jones: 9 games, 1 forced fumbles, 0 pass defended,2 sacks, 18 combined tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 8 QB hits

Flowers: 9 games, 0 forced fumbles, 1 pass defended, 5.5 sacks, 39 combined tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 22 QB hits

I'm surprised Jone's stats are even that good. That dude NEVER showed up in the playoffs. No comparison

And he had Vince in the middle

Flores didn't clear a ton of cap for nothing.
If Tre turns the money down and stays in New England he will become of my favorite Patriot players.
I have a feeling being with Flores south beach no income tax will be too much to reject.
Who knows how close the Patriots offer will be.
I wouldn't be shocked we are 4 million a season apart.

If you look at the 2015 Roster he should of had a fair few more stats added onto that; akeem Hicks, Sheard, Alan Branch, and Ninko.. not the worst D-Line we had recently!

Nick Foles is gonna eat up a nice chunk of the space they just cleared, or is he going to Jax?
