Patriots Trade for Michael Bennett

Does BB love him some 3rd round comp picks?
Just remember that comp picks are not guaranteed -- they are essentially canceled out by similar deals to incoming free agents.

If the Pats want to be a player on someone like Golden Tate, it might jeopardize comp picks.

Bring Flowers back and you have the making of a dominant defensive line to go with an elite secondary.

Hopefully he’ll be able to play given the multiple legal issues pending.

LOL, just two hours ago I said I wasn't interested when I'd read that Bennett wanted a pay raise....

But I am excited big time!!!! Disruptive player...who even can play inside too.

For a mere 5/7 swap in '20.

I think we guarantee his 7.2 this year and add on incentives based on playtime...he is after all 33 years old.

I don't even think this takes us out of the Trey Flowers bidding.

Drewski, I know what you just did!

If the implication is that I deleted any posts in this thread (Jangles or anyone else), that is false. I am not a mod (ignore the banner on my avatar - that dates back to PoFo where I was a mod).

Will they be getting the band back together? Time will tell.

Has BB ever paid max $$$$ for a premium edge rusher?
Is this draft stacked with DE/DT talent to fill holes and develop as the next Flowers?

Players of Flowers talent aren’t guarantees in any draft including this one. Flowers was good enough to translate his pressure that he got in college into the NFL. Think he was first or 2nd in all of college career. That doesn’t always happen for some players as the pro game is just so much faster and better that some never make the transition.

There’s a reason why players that can get after the qb and be disruptive get paid. Rare talent/find. He can also stop the run which is a bonus.

Your right though. Great signing if they do lose Flowers. I just don’t expect to pull another rabbit out of the hat in the draft. Seems pretty difficult.

Trey flowers is a great team mate and a really nice player. But he is not not worth 17 mil a year. He deserves to get paid but no way it’s here. Considering what we will pay Bennett next year you can almost get three really nice players for the price of flowers.

Thats his agent answering to the pay cut calls from PHI.
You could be right, but I don’t see anything from an agent. I see Michael Bennett telling everyone that “whatever team I go to, I want to get paid more than I am now.”

It may be nothing, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

This guy's fired off against Schiano before, so that should make for an awkward first meeting on site.

I was wondering how their time together in TB worked (or didn't).....

I wouldnt say Flowers is gone just yet. If he comes back with a number the Pats feel is doable then Clayborn becomes a cap casualty. If Flowers goes then they hang onto Clayborn and maybe bring back Simon on a minimum deal.
