OT: Jump Ball Joe Flacco to the Broncos

Dumb trade, Elway needs to accept they're not a Super Bowl contender anymore and rebuild properly instead of these quick 1 year QB fix attempts.

Flacco hasn't been good for years, that Super Bowl run was a lifetime ago.

He lost his job to Lamar Jackson who is basically a 50% completion guy, Flacco the past few years is basically Keenum with a better deep ball this isn't even that much of an upgrade and he's had back problems the past few years.

The Broncos just went from having the worst QB in the division to still having the worst QB in the division with this trade.

I agree with all of that but he's been on the highest stage and did very well, sometimes a change of environment work out better than expected. With his arm in Denver, I bet the Broncos are drafting some burners in April. I called this trade months ago.

Given the cap hit I would not be shocked if the Broncos actually got Flacco for free. Maybe even got a draft pick out of it instead of giving up one. Like the Texans/Browns did with Osweiler.

If Elway actually gave the Ravens something for Flacco on a 20m+ contract then he really has lost his marbles.

The funny thing about Flacco is that his 2018 stats were basically just his career average numbers. He was just what he always was. It's actually kind of uncanny how completely normal he was in the season he got benched.

Code:
Year Age Cmp% TD% Int% Y/A AY/A Y/C Y/G Rate NY/A ANY/A Sk%
2018 33 61.2 3.2 1.6 6.5 6.4 10.6 273.9 84.2 6.04 5.96 4.1
Care Care 61.7 3.7 2.4 6.7 6.4 10.9 234.6 84.1 5.98 5.66 5.5

Derek Carr: "Hold my beer."

Regards,
Chris

I would rather have Carr than Flacco in 2019, 7 years younger and had a much worse supporting cast and team that was trading away talent for draft picks for a rebuild.

Baltimore were a playoff team and Flacco lost his job.

They’re still on the cap for like 20 million for Keenum lol

My first reaction was to laugh at Elway's idiocy, but as I think more on it, it's not the dumbest move in the world, provided a few things happen:

1. Flacco is, indeed, himself still.

2. Elway can assemble a team around Flacco good enough to carry him into the playoffs then let him do his thing there.

3. The Broncos invest an early pick in a young QB with upside.

I can't say for sure whether he's an upgrade on Keenum in the regular season.

They gave away a midround pick and about 40m in cap space in the next two years and still need to find a QB. Getting to be a fringe playoff contender that has no shot at actually being successful in the postseason will just hurt them even more in terms of draft position.
