For those who trashed the defense

Rather than be on cloud9 from last night some people would rather drive home the point of being the smartest guy in the room.

Edit..I’m victim for thinking this offense would struggle post Gordon, the OL and run game minimized that loss thank god.
If that is directed at me, you are just wrong.
I am way up in cloud 9 and the point of this post was that fans literally gave this team no chance and should know better.
It has nothing to do with me, but with the faction of fans we have around here who still just don’t get what this team is about.

Or getting Gordon in the first place, or how getting Gordon and losing him would make life worse for the offense than never having got him in the first place, or Baker Mayfield never being a quality NFL quarterback, or pumping the defensive unit in 2017 as a top 5 unit, or not blaming Googs for the debacle in Denver in 2015. I could go further but that would make a good starting point to drive home the ultimate lesson of those living in glass houses tossing stones for something that people weren’t wrong about in the first place.

Or . . . recently . . . thinking everyone on the Rams D isn't very good except for Donald.

Its always the same people, they show up every week in the game day post. All week long they talk up the team but on game day they have Nothing good to say. Its the defense sucks, brady sucks, mcdaniels sucks. Its disgusting that these so called fans can trash the team on game day and then come back the next day and act like everything is fine and praise the team they trashed the day before.

Yeah, I popped-in to the game-day thread in the second quarter and despite defensive domination and good signs on offense without great results, I read two pages straight of hate for Brady and McDaniels. For a team that deals so very well with adversity, the Pats' fan base sure doesn't.

I can’t read your mind so I’ll take your word for it. I was wrong. The way the thread was made to me had a “I was right you guys were wrong so time to eat some crow” tone to it. Since you explained it I’ll apologize and take back what I said.

Really Andy? We just won the Super Bowl and you post an apology thread? Grab a drink or 2 and have some fun.

It sounds like that's what he was doing.

I clear out my ignore list to see this beauty.
1) Gordon did exactly what I feared. Exactly.
2) I never had a lot to say about mayfield other than it was ridiculous to think the patriots were trading up to get him, which was right, because you know, they didn’t.
3) the 2017 patriots were 5th in what matters. If you read my posts on the topic they were always about the results on the field not done cryptic rating system or prediction.
4) the OL coach was not, is not, a d never will be responsible for small counts. Your lack of knowledge about this topic should be cleared up by now but you just don’t listen.

No it was calling out people who gave up on the team.

the 2nd half of the SD game was garbage, can't really hold any of those points against the D, people got stuck on it

the crazy amount of points scored by KC in the 2nd half were more luck than skill, as I have mentioned before, but people got stuck on that too

the evidence was there in the playoffs, if anyone didn't see it its cuz they were willfully ignoring it

They somehow played like an all-time great D in the playoffs with the exception of the 4th quarter in Kansas City (and the 4th quarter against the Chargers in which the whole quarter was basically garbage time).
For the defense, this was finally that "complete game" that Belichick has been calling for the whole season. We didn't play 100% in all phases across the game, but the consistent excellence of the defense all game was in the making after mostly putting it together the past month.

You seem to have things confused.
There is a difference between arguing what you believe and in ultimately being proven wrong.
For example I believe this run isn’t over. I believe brady will bring them back at least one more time. I will argue vehemently with anyone who disagrees and I understand every facet of the topic so nothing you can say will make me say I am wrong to believe that
However if it doesn’t happen, I will obviously admit my belief was wrong.

I’m not confused at all, I agree with your take on the Patriots run but I have never seen you admit you were wrong about anything, and I would be very surprised if anyone who posts here ever has.

Again show me where I was wrong and refuse to admit it, because that’s just not true. In fact I just did, in this thread, about Kingsbury.
You are mixing up opinions and expectations with facts and results.

Yeah because everyone saw us holding them to 3 points. Congrats, a broken clock is right twice a day. I don’t think you get brownie points for being a homer and not havin the capacity to be critical.

I have no clue where this post comes from, but you don’t have to see a 3 point SB to not give up on the team in the middle of the season.

Yes, posters are concerned EVERY YEAR about deficiencies on defense in the first half of the season. And every year, the defense improves throughout the season, and is diminished only as a result of injuries.

Roster issues about the defense and wide receivers were a 100% legitimate concern. People thought, though it would be unlikely, they’d improve with coaching and they would finally be the team that catches lightning in a bottle come playoff time. That happened!

After Gordon was lost there were fans who stated flatly that "the season is over." And to top it off one of them added that anyone like me who disagreed was somehow a "pink hat." Nothing here has ever made less sense.

This is your apology thread. 100% participation ( this is a case where it’s fun to say I was wrong).
Don’t make me go back and quote your posts.

I trashed the D (and Sony Michel) this season because for stretches of the season, they were bad. I'm not going to apologize for that.

I never trashed the defense but am mystified by its transformation into a dominating force. Just didn't see it coming.

This D caught lightning in a bottle by going on an incredible (and improbable) run, and I'm definitely guilty about not seeing any signs this would happen. Time to celebrate!
