I want to explore the narritive of "the Rams are only good because the NFL has been helping them so they can get a fanbase in LA to pay for the new stadium." That was an awful lot for me to type. Seems like such a complex idea, the NFL standing behind a team and rigging games in plain sight for them so they can get a fanbase going in their new home. Is it really possible? Or more importantly, what is the point to watching if it really is rigged?

But is it really that odd that the Rams made it to the Super Bowl after moving? Do teams need game-time success to garner a fanbase?

On the surface, we can say its odd that in 4 years after moving to Baltimore the former Browns - who had never been to the Super Bowl - brought Baltimore its first Lombardi trophy in decades. But if that were true, wouldn't that mean the league was rigged all the way back in the mid 90s?
Well, it does seem odd that this very Rams team won a Super Bowl soon after moving from LA 2 decades ago, no? After all, it only took them about 4 years to get on the "greatest show on turf" status and steamroll their way right to a Super Bowl behind a grocery bagger. So maybe the league was rigged even then. Right?

But what about the Houston Oilers who moved in the mid 90s, began building a fanbase in Tennessee of all places, and made it to a Super Bowl? They didn't win, and worst of all they are nary often in the playoffs. But yet Tennessee loves their Titans. Some time before this, the St Louis Cardinals moved to Arizona. They had to build a fanbase way out there. They weren't even in the playoffs for a decade and it took 2 for them to make it to the Super Bowl only to lose. They still got a fanbase, and a nice new stadium, all without sudden success.

I feel like most of the people complaining about rigging and the league purposefully making teams lose games is just sour grapes from a sad sack of sore losers who take a simple game too seriously. Billion dollar corporation or not, they make their money from the way the game plays out not from the way they make games turn out. If the NFL honestly had that much power, the Patriots wouldn't have been in 4 of the last 5 super bowls. They'd have a different city win a title every year to make everything "fair and fun for all" to keep everyone interested.
Everyone wants "their team" to win the big game, some people seem to want it so badly they will cry "foul" or "fix" in public (or nowadays in social media) of all places, ultimately embarrassing themselves. But we love it, don't we? We love the narratives. We love the "Us against the world" thing. We love the whole "the league is against us because we're too good" schpeel. It makes it more entertaining. And that's what sports is, isn't it? Its entertainment. And nothing is more entertaining than an unpredictable outcome. Plus, don't you think a planned outcome would leak at some point, especially in this day-in-age of social media and network hacking? All the stuff wikileaks can get into, but they can't seem to get past a sport league's network security?

Yeah.... I'm not buying it.

Try this idea on for size........................................................................................................
Moving was a smart move and paid off for the organisation.

"Based on the evidence, it also is our view that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of McNally and Jastremski involving the release of air from Patriots game balls."

On Wednesday, when posing questions to Daniel Nash, the NFL's attorney, Berman scrutinized the league's threshold for culpability.

"More probable than not," Berman said, "...I'm not sure I understand what in the world that means -- that phrase."

Berman added, "I don't know what to make of that conclusion -- that Tom Brady is at least generally aware. I don't know if you do, either. It's (Wells') quote."

The other cities you mention have no place in the 'narrative' you want to explore. It's an apples to oranges comparison. Baltimore, TN and St Louis (who tried to appropriate ours) desperately wanted NFL teams while a largely indifferent LA market was force fed two teams because the NFL desperately wanted LA.

Basically after the fact surmised spin/ half baked theory.

People can spin anything negative. It's the way our society works now.. waahh , crybabies posting negative crap on internet. Waaaah. You're better than me ..waaah . Watch internet geeks post negative stuff... Waaah .

Isn't that exactly what you just did?

It is easy explain the Rams success in a way other than a conspiracy. They had several lottery picks from being bad and landed Goff, Gurley, and Donald. Goff is still on a rookie deal. Donald is the best defensive tackle of his generation. On top of that, they have a really innovative coach who is making waves. They also have an excellent offensive line.

So that’s their core in place, and then they go out and try to be aggressive in the offseason. They trade for a very good receiver in Cooks, another star defensive tackle in Suh, and a pair of talented CBs in Talib and Peters.

This team was really good last year and then excellent this year. It’s not surprising they are in the Super Bowl. The only “conspiracy” path here is that they tanked for a few years with Fisher, knowing they’d be able to build a really strong core of superstars though the draft. Then again a lot of teams do that.

Hahaha expected that one.. no not really. I'm observing and commenting factually. Read again..

Here I'll help you.. ^^ "After the fact". Rams are already good and in the super bowl "surmised". Um not from inner NFL circles. Huh?" "Spin". It's what puffed up opinions are. "Half baked" . Term means not complete or fact based. "Theory".. yup .. not fact.

In real time the Missed Call(s) play looked like any other bang bang sideline 12 yard pass. And why were the Saints passing anyway, when they could have drilled the clock down to almost nothing by choosing the run over 2 incomplete pass plays. And then, of course, the Saints get the ball First in OT and can't even deliver a field goal, let alone put the game away.

So then THE PLAY. THE PLAY THE PLAY CRY ME A RIVER A FULL WEEK OF FOOTBALL TRAGEDY... W'es the Real Winner!!! The stupid Commish stole the game. Heavy. Conspiracy.

That's exactly what I'm saying. This conspiracy nonsense so many have been going on and on about ever since the Rams won the NFCCG is just a bunch of sour grapes. I don't buy it. They were bad for years but were rebuilding since before moving to LA. They moved and it worked out for em, and their rebuilding efforts worked out. Simple as that.

Yeah, the easiest explanation of the Rams success is Jeff Fisher. The Rams are the perfect example of the role of coaching in the NFL. I have often said that BB looks like a genius because he is being compared to a bunch of absolute morons.

It was rigged. That's why they are playing the Chargers in the super bowl for the exact same reason.

It’s rigged, if you want to make new fans in the US, you make the Rams win, if you want to make fans outside the US, you make Brady win. This is the best of both worlds :).

The Rams had better win this year or next because the way this team was built is not sustainable. The bill is coming due. Goff starts making real money after next season.

It didn’t take a conspiracy for the Rams to be in the Super Bowl. It just took one really bad call along with numerous OL injuries to the Saints to get there.

You have to examine all the inputs /facts before you can say if the theory holds water.

The one fact you ignore is that the moved teams before the lambs played in a league with Ommissioners of INTEGRITY.

Try saying that with a straight face about the current regime. After PV=nrT-gate, everyone should accept that all manner of NYJFL conspiracies are at least PLAUSIBLE.

No they could NOT have drilled the clock down to "almost nothing."
If the Saints had run the ball 3 straight times without gaining a 1st down, and the Rams had used their final 2 time-outs, then there would've been approximately 1 minute plus a few seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. Still a lot better for the Saints than what actually happened, but by no means the game-ender you make it out to be.

If the league wanted to take the Pats out they could take em out of competition no problem. What conspiracy is there currently against a team that's been in all the SBs since deflategate?
