The other Patriots quarterback you should be paying attention to

I know a lot of you do not like WEEI but news on this youngster has been scarce.

I like:

The No. 1 trait Etling has demonstrated as a rookie is his work ethic. He said earlier in the year he was spending nearly 16 hours at the Gillette Stadium facility every day watching film, working out, asking questions — anything he needs to do to help him become a better player.

Thoughts?

The fact he doesn’t turn the ball over and works very hard is a big plus. I’ve been wondering if the Pats realize they’ll never find another Brady, so will load up a serviceable qb with weapons and go back to a strong run game.

I'm not sure what to make of Etling. I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion. I like hearing about his work ethic though.

Seems like a good kid. But once Brady is done if the Pats want to #TankForTrevor then Etling is a good horse to ride on...

"Whatever we ask him do, whether it is chart plays or get the iPad for Tom, or for Josh, or for Brian [Hoyer] if they need an extra look at something. He does basically whatever is asked." Kid obviously holds a mean clipboard.

He appears to have enough tools to be a serviceable backup ... decent arm and body.

Beyond that is anyone's guess ... even first and 2nd round QB's don't make it.
They make enough on their rookie deals to disappear ... this kid has to work
hard for a few years to earn some money so that may actually end up helping him.

My guess is going in to camp we will have Brady - Etling - a high and a lower round QB pick.
Next year Belichick will keep 2 on the roster and 1 on the practice squad.
Hoyer becomes a coach ... here or somewhere else ............

Just a guess.

Just a reminder: $1.5M of Hoyer's 2019 salary is already guaranteed.

I thought the same about Brady during the '00 season. Just sayin'.....

"It happened that one time out of a million" = Nice story
"It happened that one time out of a million" <> This is now the approach to take and the expectation to have

It's a great story

however, he will not be with the patriots come week 1 of 2019

Blah, blah, certitude, blah, certitude, blah, blah....

'Edelman can never fill Welker's shoes.......'

Blah, blah, certitude, blah, certitude, blah, blah....

'Losing Mankins will hurt this team'......

4 out 0f 5 years' Super Bowl appearances later.............

The only two truths are that 1) nobody knows and 2) certitude is rancid.

  1. Losing Mankins did hurt the team, and it was such a problem that Brady and others had to get BB to address the team about it.
  2. Edelman doesn't fill Welker's shoes. They have different roles and, while I love Edelman, Welker was better at his, IMO. But the issue with Welker leaving was Amendola, not Edelman, and the problem there was always Amendola's health. And we saw that throughout Amendola's time with the Patriots.

And the only two truths are

  1. As long as Brady is Brady...
  2. As long as BB is running the team...

I wouldn't bother. He's going to push the conversation into the extreme where people who are simply curious and hopeful will be cast as guaranteeing Etling is the starter because that's what arguing with Deus is like. Defer to authority (himself), restate your position to an absurd one, call you an idiot for your purposefully mischaracterized position and then finish jerking off to his own posts. You know this probably better than me.

It's highly likely Etling never ends up starting but I'm gonna root for the player on our team cause I'm weird like that.
