Toughest QB Pats have faced in the AFC championship?

After Sunday's game, he may look like the toughest QB we've ever faced in an AFC showdown, but that might not translate into the future... we'll see.

I'm hoping we can mess with his mind on Sunday because messing with his physical skills might be beyond us. If we can rattle him a bit, I think we can beat him--even on the road. But it's a tall order, given his rock star cool.

We can’t be behind early.

2006 Peyton Manning shook Belichicks brain and was definitely in his mind when he decided to go for it on 4th and 2 three years later.

Actually IIRC Marino was less than impressive in that AFCCG, it was kind of a let down. As much as it pains me to say it, just talking championship games gotta go with '06 Paid-a-ton. It would be easier on me if the OP was asking for the best. Paid-a-ton was always so whiny to the refs and constantly Manning facing that I hate applying the tough label to him at that time in his career. Jump Ball Joe had more toughness in just his moustache than '06 Paid-a-ton had in his whole body

Early BB was able to confuse PM, Peyton figured it out eventually and was much tougher later in his career. Got to go with PM.
I'll wait to see what Mahomes can do on the big stage before worrying about him.

Sterling Moore's karate chopping the ball out of Lee Evans' hands just a millisecond before Evans got his second foot down prevented a Flacco victory in Foxborough. Then Flacco wins it the next year as part of an incredible postseason run.

One win in Foxborough and the closest of shaves again in Foxborough? Flacco of 2011-2012 was the toughest.

Regards,
Chris

By reputation, Manning. By actual performance, Flacco.

I was not being serious. I picked Marino because he and Brunell were left off the list like the Pre Brady Pats don’t matter.

Manning was tearing our pathetic '09 defense a new *******. I would've trusted us to convert 4th and 2 over stopping them, 2006 or not.

Especially since we did convert...

No doubt...Peyton and Mahomes

Peyton HOF Manning. Guy was a stud and he was always a big hurdle we had to get past.

Manning in ‘06, came back from down a bunch. Mahomes is wait and see, can’t judge what I haven’t seen....him in playoffs against us. He looks good prior to playing pats in playoffs, but so did manning before 3 pick game....

Bortles for sure.

Tom and team are 1-3 against PM in the big game... yech. 11-6 overall in the match up, but it woulda been nice to redistribute some of those losses instead of packing half of them into the AFCCG.

I look at this kid Mahomes and think, like most of you, he's a rock star. No look passes and all that.

BUT...

Is he any different than Russell Wilson? Legit question, I'd like to hear what the X's and O's guys say. From my coach's chair, I see a guy that has a chit ton of confidence, and makes plays with his legs a la Russell. I really think that his no look, left handed BS is gonna catch up with him.

I have a feeling that BB will find a way to keep him in the pocket, much like they tried with Russell. We might be screaming at the TV to "get him", but the plan might be to keep him home and take away that part of his game.

And the answer to the question is Manning.

I say Peyton Manning 13.

I will not agree with anyone who says Peyton Manning 06. First off, Manning crapped the bed in the first half and made boneheaded errors.

Secondly, if it weren't for the refs aiding him 3 separate times on mind-boggling calls, that game would be known as an all-time Peyton choke. How can you give him credit for that?

On the other hand, in 13, Peyton was the toughest QB the Patriots faced in the AFCCG.

If you asked me about toughest in the AFC playoffs, I would say Steve McNair.

Toughest in Super Bowl? Man--ugh, don't really want to even mention Eli Manning because the Giants D did us in, but Foles probably gave the best opposing performance. Yet, Russell Wilson was excellent too, and don't forget the man who really gets my vote in this category: Jake DelHomme.

Mahomes is taller, can see over his OL, has a much quicker release, and may be more accurate. I think Mahomes has a lot of what Brady has (I didn't say he was as good at quick release/finding open man). The only part of his game that he needs to work on and probably will work on in the future is how footwork and technique for those intermediate throws. He is all arm on throws 20 yards downfield and you can see the ball dying a lot, inaccurate there too.

On 0-15 yard throws, he throws darts, and when he gets his body into it, he can sling it downfield. But his intermediate game is suspect. I've long believed though that QBs can be taught proper footwork.

Manning by far. He was the reason the Colts & Broncos won in 2006 & 2013 respectively.

Sterling Moore was really an underrated player with the Pats. And that one play definitely ensured Cundiff had a chance to miss that game tying fg. Otherwise, they are playing the Giants.
