Bowl game discussion: Alabama vs Clemson, National Championship

Red exploited a loophole in getting Bird. The loophole has been closed since.

Regards,
Chris
Clever Red went to personally go scout Bird with the sport medias eyes upon him and abruptly walked out as if Bird was a bust and Red was not interested.

Another time in the playoffs IIRC , the opposing team beat the Celtics and it was front page news across the nation. So, Red announced that he was making Bill Russell player/coach which totally seized the news cycle. People are still talking about it.

I used the live in San Antonio and there was a sub job near one of the Air Force bases. Not great, but decent for Texas. So, Im waiting for my order and in walks a woman who wants to speak with the owner. Were both waiting and she points to a picture on the wall and asks me "Is that the owner?"

It was a front shot of Red smoking a cigar.

Why wasn't Lawrence in the Heisman running?

Found this on Lawrence's recruitment:
WATCH Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence: Thoughts on Georgia football, Justin Fields

Georgia coming off down year plus a surplus of quality QBs in Athens factored in Lawrence's Clemson choice
Saban wanted him too but I suspect Alabama's depth at QB plus the reality that Alabama hasn't been producing successful NFL QBs weighed heavily

And Dabo seems to be a fun guy vs Lord Vader

Didn’t start the year and took over for Bryant. Got better and better as the year went on. He also missed some time after a hit he took against Syracuse. Finally, he just simply wasn’t getting the press that Tua and Murray were.

I want Lawrence as Brady's successor. But there's basically a zero percent chance of it. The only way that it happens is to evaluate when he would come out (after his sophomore year? I can't remember...let's call it 2021 after his junior year) and anticipate which team is going to suck the most that year, and make a trade now - current draft picks or players for their, say, 2021 first round pick. And just hope that they suck the most and you somehow end up with the #1 pick in 2021 as Lawrence comes out.

I mean good luck with that but man I'd love to see that kid be the next Patriots' QB.

It’s probably not going to happen. But I agree. And he’s just a true freshman so he has a ton of room to grow.

Justyn Ross also looks like he could be a blue chip talent at receiver, and Tee Higgins is going to be a day 1 pick too. Clemson just can't stop producing 1st round receivers. Renfrow will probably be a 3rd rounder or so, and might answer the question about who succeeds Edelman.

Yeah. Perfect QB for your system and another guy I was hoping the Gators would land back then. Good size and build that will allow him to withstand the kind of hits that he’s going to absorb running that offense. Doesn’t look to run over people like Tebow did and is very good at using his feet to buy more time and find receivers downfield. I’ve only seen a limited amount of high school tape on websites like Rivals and 24/7, but I didn’t notice many issues with his eyes dropping when he was rushed. The one thing I did notice, and I’m not sure it will be corrected at OSU, is he needs to learn to climb in the pocket. Too often, I would see him turn and bail out backwards Michael Vick style, which could get him into trouble in college and, eventually, the pros. But you guys have yourselves a stud tailor-made for your offense. There’s a reason he was the #1 QB in the nation. It will be interesting to watch if the NCAA grants him immediate eligibility.
Nice breakdown, Kontra. You’re the man, buddy.

When it comes to college QBs I prefer to watch them against potential nfl defences, so any QB who plays well against Bama I always rate higher, because that’s as close as you’ll get to a Defence in the NFL. That’s why I rank Jake Fromm highly.

I mean, if Tua drops just based on this game, I wouldn't be sad about it. He's had a bad first half, but I would be more than ok if he ended up here somehow.

Way over-rated in my mind. The Clemson kid on the other hand has everything. He will win 3-4 more championships BEFORE he graduates. And as the Jets will stink 4 years from now, just like they do now, they will have the first pick...and select someone else.;)

Patriots will never tank. Let’s quit with that garbage already.
A few smart moves & we won't have to. The key
@BaconGrundleCandy could probably elaborate a bit more or provide a different perspective as well.
You pretty much hit it.

Coming out of hs I thought Fields & Lawrence were 1a/b. Fields has been comp'd to Watson for a minute & it makes sense except he looks a lil further along. Might have some typical young kid maturity issues like all 18-20 yo but on the field he looks like he belongs big time. Again going back to Watson, it seems he's made countless big plays when it matters most.

I love him as a passer though. His arm is legit & can touch almost any part of the field. Small sample size but he looks like someone who never aims & isn't afraid to give his guy a shot. Much like Lawrence last night w 50/50. Has an arm, trust it.

I believe he didn't start right away in hs. Nunez was in front of him & he had to learn several different offenses by the time he was the starter. Has some experience under center.

Baseball player & to me it shows. He's very smooth & fluid. That might sound like nothing but there's no segmented movements, hitches in his mechanics. Played ss I believe & again it shows w a nice easy release & movements.

Like you said perfect for osu. I can only imagine what he'll do w all that talent.

Hopefully we get to see Fields/Lawrence on the big stage before they go pro.

Jeez. Tough crowd. They currently have the 2nd best odds behind Clemson to win the title again, next year. The dude’s one of the best HCs ever in the history of college football, has taken his team to the final four in all 5 yrs of the playoffs, and consistently has one of the best recruiting classes in the nation.

What your doing is basically the same thing everyone says when Belichick and Brady lose a big game.

Nah. I’m not saying the dynasty is dead. Alabama is still going to be very good and they are still going to compete for titles. I just think teams are catching up. Clemson and Georgia are right there and A and M is coming.

Alabama can’t win the title every year, just like we can’t win the super bowl every year. watching Alabama win all the time makes me understand why people hate NE so much.

I knew Trevor Lawrence reminded me of someone...

Meh. It might be more competitive, but Alabama is still pulling down top recruiting classes. I really don't think they're going anywhere.
