Bowl game discussion: Alabama vs Clemson, National Championship

Trevor Lawrence is that classic blend of Joe Montana and Randy Johnson.

Renfrow was explaining why he doesn't let all the adulation around Clemson get to him because, he said, at his next stop, wherever that is, he won't be a superstar.

This is perplexing for two reasons. First, it's hard to imagine Renfrow as anything but a fan favorite. Second, Renfrow's professional future has appeared certain for quite some time now, with his destiny being the one team that has made a half-dozen undersized slot receivers into household names.

"Well," Renfrow said, "when we played at BC, I did think -- the Patriots are right down the road."

The timeless legend of Clemson's Hunter Renfrow

We need to stock pile draft picks NOW so we can get Lawrence.

I wish the NFL would let teams draft college players even before eligibility. So you could draft a guy like Lawrence with your first round pick this year, though your signing period is a year from the date he declares as eligible. Didn’t the Celtics do something like that with Larry Bird? It would make the draft really, really interesting.
Red exploited a loophole in getting Bird. The loophole has been closed since.

Regards,
Chris

Patriots will never tank. Let’s quit with that garbage already.

And the team that gets the top pick won trade it don’t know why people are even entertaining that type conversation

Trevor Lawrence is legit. Could he be the best QB prospect coming out since Peyton and Luck

Lawrence is good, but Alabama has literally piss poor pressure.
He will most likely become the nation number one qb if he takes Clemson back to another championship.

Saban May never win again a championship again. Have to deal with Clemson every year, Georgia in the east. And the rise of the aggies in the west
Jeez. Tough crowd. They currently have the 2nd best odds behind Clemson to win the title again, next year. The dude’s one of the best HCs ever in the history of college football, has taken his team to the final four in all 5 yrs of the playoffs, and consistently has one of the best recruiting classes in the nation.

What your doing is basically the same thing everyone says when Belichick and Brady lose a big game.

People were just discussing the same idea here prior to the start of the game, although they were talking about Alabama’s QB.

I have been throughly unimpressed with Tua both times he’s played top quality defenses.

It’s amazing how quickly some people are to jump on the next best thing too early. Some of these players are good, but inconsistent against top level competition. He’s probably a good example of that. I need to see a bigger sample size, especially with such an important position.

Note to BB...draft a couple of those Clemson receivers.

another note to BB....don't even bother looking at Tua Goalongawayaanlose-a
I don’t think they will have a shot at Ross without trading up when the time comes. Kid’s a stud. I followed him during the recruiting process hoping that the Gators would make a move.

He will get better as time goes on. But, this year, against Georgia and Clemson, the kid telegraphed or sailed multiple throws that turned into back breaking INTs.

Know anything worth sharing on the highly touted QB that just transferred from Georgia to OSU? Fields. I think he was the #2 overall recruit from last year’s (‘17) entire class. Since he’s SEC I figured you may have some thoughts.

I don't know what game you were watching but Alabama got plenty of pressure on Lawrence. Pushed him off his spot, and trucked him on a few occasions, but he still kept dropping dimes.

We have a snowball's chance in hell of getting him, but he's fun to watch. I just hope he ends up in the NFC.

Anyone recall the recruiting hype surrounding Lawrence?
Amazing Georgia couldn't keep him in state
Did Dabo promise him the starting job on day 1 if he signed?
Clemson a more pro offense?
Better weapons?

What a fit out of the gates.
The kid has the "it" factor and a physique that could resemble Cam Newton's in a couple of years. Besides his skill and savey, I loved how he stayed upright from hits after delivering the ball.

Yeah. Perfect QB for your system and another guy I was hoping the Gators would land back then. Good size and build that will allow him to withstand the kind of hits that he’s going to absorb running that offense. Doesn’t look to run over people like Tebow did and is very good at using his feet to buy more time and find receivers downfield. I’ve only seen a limited amount of high school tape on websites like Rivals and 24/7, but I didn’t notice many issues with his eyes dropping when he was rushed. The one thing I did notice, and I’m not sure it will be corrected at OSU, is he needs to learn to climb in the pocket. Too often, I would see him turn and bail out backwards Michael Vick style, which could get him into trouble in college and, eventually, the pros. But you guys have yourselves a stud tailor-made for your offense. There’s a reason he was the #1 QB in the nation. It will be interesting to watch if the NCAA grants him immediate eligibility.

He committed to Clemson in 2016 and, IIRC, didn’t really give anyone else a shot. Like Fields, the #1 overall QB prospect. There was plenty of interest from the ususal suspects (Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami) though.

We could get him if we tank 2020. And honestly, if it looks like we will be merely mediocre that year, that’s what I would rather do. I know it’s blasphemous to mention that around here, but I don’t see any point in going 7-9, 8-8. Suck for a year, get up there to get the best QB and best picks in the remaining rounds, and rebuild from there.
