The irrational fear of the Ravens on this board

Pats have to, at a minimum make it to the Super Bowl to stay ahead of them. Then the Pats will have gone 2-0 and could finish 2-1 at worst if they lose in the Super Bowl and the .667 ( 2-1) keeps them ahead of Baltimore...Winning the Super Bowl extends the difference even more..

If Wildcard Byes counted it would be even higher.

I saw this interesting fact on MSN this morning: "The Ravens entered the weekend with the highest winning percentage (.652) in playoff history. But their loss dropped them to .625 — and second place — behind the Patriots (.630)..."

Small sampling can be misleading.

I just didn't want to play the Birds. The Pats this season is a highly unusual team than in past years. I didn't want the Pats to play against the Bird's defense.

Go Pats

I was surprised to find a lot of old charger fan resentment from 2006 and 2007 on their board though

All at Foxboro...

2014 Playoffs:
Patriots 35 Ravens 31
2012 Playoffs: Ravens 28 Patriots 13
2011 Playoffs: Patriots 23 Ravens 20
2009 Playoffs: Ravens 33 Patriots 14

The John Harbaugh led Ravens have by far been the most successful playoff team in Foxboro during the Brady/Belichick era.

Flat out beating us twice with the other two games requiring some crazy **** (Two 14 point comebacks by Pats, missed chip shot, game winning TD knocked out of hands, etc.) for the Patsto win.

Each season their record is right around where it is now, every season people would say "yeah but THIS Ravens team isn't that good..." and every time they would still beat us/play us as close as possible. Even with Flacco not even throwing for 40 yards the first time.

It's not an irrational fear, it's a begrudging respect for a franchise that isn't afraid to play in Foxboro and consistently matches up well against and I'm happy they're out now.
>>and I'm happy they're out now

agreed with you until the last statement. If that Baltimore team was somehow coming to Foxboro next week I would be very happy.

Count me as someone who is glad to see the Ravens out.

Sure, Lamar Jackson looked bad for three quarters, so now people may think "oh, now I want to play against that guy" but football is all about matchups. I don't thnk the Pats rush defense would have been anywhere near as successful as the Chargers were.

Even though I think the Chargers are a better team than the Ravens, I think we match up better with the Chargers.

Definition of IRRELEVANT

Does this thread violate the terms of service for this message board? (It looks to me as though several people are having fun with it.) Are you telling me what to do? Do I need your permission to post? Your opinion regarding what is "irrelevant" is irrelevant. If you do not like a post or a thread use your scroll bars. Never the less you continue to add "irrelevant" posts to this "irrelevant" thread.

Back to the topic at hand: IF the Baltimore Ravens were the unstoppable Juggernaut that a percentage of members viewed them as, then what happened? Please be conversational and add some relevant information.

What a revelatory moment for ME! I always wondered what mistakes I made on my verbal college boards. I wanted that perfect 800 so frickin' bad I sunk into a deep depression when I only scored 756.Just dawned on me that I used an E instead of an A in relevant. Damn it!!

Not that small. since inception, they are 15-9 compared to Pats' 34-20 overall,,,

Not misleading, just absolutely irrelevant. During this timeframe the Patriots have 34 playoff wins, the Ravens 15. Is there anyone on the planet that would rather have a higher winning percentage? For playoffs it is a pitiful measuring stick because teams aren’t allotted the same amount of games; every game won is a plus, whereas every game lost is irrelevant.

Let me reiterate that I am NOT saying the "Ravens Suck".
They are pretty good but not great or unbeatable like some members of
the Patriot fan base seem to believe.

I also did not name a single poster's name or belittle another member so this thread is entirely appropriate.

Please allow the stain of the 2009 playoff game to wash away. That was a long time ago.

I think we should still be scared. What if the Ravens decide to show up at Gillette on Sunday, suited up and ready to play? Who's going to stop them?

And if we refuse them, they'll murder us.

My irrational fear has been transferred to 2018 Chargers. I didn't realize until yesterday afternoon that they're probably the best team of all time.
For me, the epiphany occurred this morning while listening to Dale and Keefe on WEEI. The Pats have little chance Sunday and there's not much sense wasting 3 hours watching.

Leaving out a few things.

First is the fact that the Patriots are 10-3 lifetime in head to head matchups vs the Ravens.
Outscoring them 354-281
Ravens–Patriots rivalry - Wikipedia

Second fact is they will NOT be our opponent next week.

Considering that the stakes are completely different in the playoffs - when coaches/players are expected to perform at a higher level to avoid elimination - I can see why Pessimistic Pete chose to focus on the playoffs results and not include the regular season for this discussion.

One can also argue that all of the above are in the past and only this years performance is what matters.

In other words the Pats have won more than twice as many playoff games as the Ravens.
